| Quatuor No. 2 String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, cello [Score and Parts] - Intermediate BIM
String quartet (2 violins, viola and violoncello) - Grade 4-5 SKU: ET.QC17(+)
String quartet (2 violins, viola and violoncello) - Grade 4-5 SKU: ET.QC17 Composed by Julien-Francois Zbinden. Contemporary. Score and parts. Editions BIM #QC17. Published by Editions BIM (ET.QC17). ISBN 9790207024671. The Quatuor No. 1 op. 60, of limited duration, as well as the short piece Alligun, are perhaps the inspirational source that motivated me, late in life, to undertake the composition of an important string quartet, requiring that I once again confront the perennial challenge of that instrumental setting. The 25 minute work consists of four very diverse and contrasting movements. The first – Lento - Allegro - opens with a slow and mysterious introduction followed by a joyful rhythmic episode, while the second – Scherzando molto vivo – is simply virtuosic game-playing, with the four bows flying around freely. The third – Adagio – is very dramatic, slowly evolving into a mood of meditation and tenderness. The last movement – Allegrissimo – is an homage to contrapuntal style and requires great virtuosity on the part of the performers. The first performance was given March 6 2012 by the string quartet, Sine Nomine (the dedicacee), at the Théâtre de l’Octogone in Pully (Lausanne), Switzerland. Key: E minor. Ludwig van Beethoven’s overpowering legacy caused many subsequent composers to avoid writing string quartets at all. Saint-Saëns was no exception in this respect and waited until 1899 and 1918 to produce his two contributions to the genre. Couched in classicism, they relate in form and style to early 19th-century French quartets and to a titan of the genre: Joseph Haydn.
Saint-Saëns’ string quartets appear here for the first time in a scholarly-critical edition. It is also the first edition to contain the original version of the Finale to String Quartet No. 2 in score and parts. An informative Introduction is included in the study score to complete this volume of important French chamber music, based on the Urtext from “Camille Saint-Saëns – Complete Edition of the Instrumental Worksâ€.

| Quartet No. 1 Potenza Music
Trombone quartet SKU: P2.80184 Composed by James Meador. Chamber music, C...(+)
Trombone quartet SKU: P2.80184 Composed by James Meador. Chamber music, Contemporary. Published by Potenza Music (P2.80184). Quartet No. 1 by James Meador was written in the summer of 2004 and premiered in August of that same year by the UL Lafayette Trombone Quartet at a benefit concert for the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra in Lafayette, Louisiana. The piece consists of two movements, each designed to highlight the choral characteristics of the trombone quartet (or trombone choir), but with a strong emphasis on dissonance. Novus Sonorous opens with a rhythmic and dissonant introduction before leading into a three way struggle for the melody. A singing line eventually emerges and leads us into a powerful chordal motive, then backs down to another closely scored and dissonant chorale. The opening statement returns briefly and carries us back to the mighty chordal section before a mournful and ponderous conclusion. Ludus Tonalis begins with an intense and again closely scored, very dissonant chorale figure, then immediately jumps into a playful mixed meter section bouncing around from 7/8 to 2/4 to 6/8. This section leads into a sort of rhythmic fanfare where the melody is derived from entrances of the chord tones, then dies down into somewhat of a dark portrayal of the main theme in a choral style. Once again we encounter the playful section before closing out the piece on a forceful and energetic drive to the end. $18.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
| Sonatina String Orchestra [Score] - Easy Carl Fischer
Orchestra String Orchestra - Grade 2-2.5 SKU: CF.YAS13F Composed by Muzio...(+)
Orchestra String Orchestra - Grade 2-2.5 SKU: CF.YAS13F Composed by Muzio Clementi. Arranged by Douglas Townsend. Carl Fischer Young String Orchestra Series. Classical. Full score. With Standard notation. 12 pages. Carl Fischer Music #YAS13F. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.YAS13F). ISBN 9780825848339. UPC: 798408048334. 8.5 X 11 inches. Key: G major. IApart from some of his Sonatinas, Opus 36, Clementi's life and music are hardly known to the piano teachers and students of today. For example, in addition to the above mentioned Sonatinas, Clementi wrote sixty sonatas for the piano, many of them unjustly neglected, although his friend Beethoven regarded some of them very highly. Clementi also wrote symphonies (some of which he arranged as piano sonatas), a substantial number of waltzes and other dances for the piano as well as sonatas and sonatinas for piano four-hands.In addition to composing, Clementi was a much sought after piano teacher, and included among his students John Field (Father of the 'Nocturne'), and Meyerbeer. In his later years, Clementi became a very successful music publisher, publishing among other works the first English edition of Beethoven's Violin Concerto, in the great composer's own arrangement for the piano, as well as some of his string quartets. Clementi was also one of the first English piano manufacturers to make pianos with a metal frame and string them with wire. The Sonatina in C, Opus 36, No. 1 was one of six such works Clementi wrote in 1797. He must have been partial to these little pieces (for which he also provided the fingerings), since they were reissued (without the fingering) by the composer shortly after 1801. About 1820, he issued ''the sixth edition, with considerable improvements by the author;· with fingerings added and several minor changes, among which were that many of them were written an octave higher.IIIt has often been said, generally by those unhampered by the facts, that composers of the past (and, dare we add, the present?), usually handled their financial affairs with their public and publishers with a poor sense of business acumen or common sense. As a result they frequently found themselves in financial straits.Contrary to popular opinion, this was the exception rather than the rule. With the exception of Mozart and perhaps a few other composers, the majority of composers then, as now, were quite successful in their dealings with the public and their publishers, as the following examples will show.It was not unusual for 18th- and 19th-century composers to arrange some of their more popular compositions for different combinations of instruments in order to increase their availability to a larger music-playing public. Telemann, in the introduction to his seventy-two cantatas for solo voice and one melody instrument (flute, oboe or violin, with the usual continua) Der Harmonische Gottesdienst, tor example, suggests that if a singer is not available to perform a cantata the voice part could be played by another instrument. And in the introduction to his Six Concertos and Six Suites for flute, violin and continua, he named four different instrumental combinations that could perform these pieces, and actually wrote out the notes for the different possibilities. Bach arranged his violin concertos for keyboard, and Beethoven not only arranged his Piano Sonata in E Major, Opus 14, No. 1 for string quartet, he also transposed it to the key of F. Brahm's well-known Quintet in F Minor for piano and strings was his own arrangement of his earlier sonata for two pianos, also in F Minor.IIIWe come now to Clementi. It is well known that some of his sixty piano sonatas were his own arrangements of some of his lost symphonies, and that some of his rondos for piano four-hands were originally the last movements of his solo sonatas or piano trios. In order to make the first movement of his delightful Sonatina in C, Opus 36, No. 1 accessible to young string players, I have followed the example established by the composer himself by arranging and transposing one of his piano compositions from one medium (the piano) to another. (string instruments). In order to simplify the work for young string players, in the process of adapting it to the new medium it was necessary to transpose it from the original key of C to G, thereby doing away with some of the difficulties they would have encountered in the original key. The first violin and cello parts are similar to the right- and left-hand parts of the original piano version. The few changes I have made in these parts have been for the convenience of the string players, but in no way do they change the nature of the music.Since the original implied a harmonic framework in many places, I have added a second violin and viola part in such a way that they not only have interesting music to play, but also fill in some of the implied harmony without in any way detracting from the composition's musical value. Occasionally, it has been necessary to raise or lower a few passages an octave or to modify others slightly to make them more accessible for young players. It is hoped that the musical value of the composition has not been too compromised, and that students and teachers will come to enjoy this little piece in its new setting as much as pianists have in the original one. This arrangement may also be performed by a solo string quartet. When performed by a string orchestra, the double bass part may be omitted.- Douglas TownsendString editing by Amy Rosen. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.PB-5714). ISBN 9790004216514. 10.5 x 14 inches. More than my earlier works, this one is interspersed with metrically bound rhythms and musicianly characters that constantly recrystallize and drift towards or away from familiar situations. The familiar: These are dance-like figures and music-making formulas, but also songs and, in two cases fragments of Bach's music - playfully collected memories of impressions in which - consciously and unconsciously - I am embodied with that collective comfort in whose protection bourgeois thinking and feeling, magically protected, grow up and emerge apart.(It is well known that such security has its fetishes from the childlike to the adult stage: Home, religious bond, holidays, tradition, longing for childhood - the superficiality may have little idea of the depth that opens up underneath. There is also no question that we are still marked by such security even when the contradictions and alienation of existence force us to step out of their protection, to recognize and act upon reality, and to oppose the domination of such inner bonds where their original truth has become the fatal untruth of comfortable illusion, stubbornly and fearfully conjured idyll and reactionary narrow-mindedness.My music feeds on figures in which such memories are encapsulated. It deals with them not much differently than in other pieces with the elements of the traditional musical concept of material, having already always reflected compositionally as a product of sociality and anticipation of musical expression, i.e. it moved into a structurally expanded context and expressively redefined from there.Such an approach aims at overcoming lack of freedom: grasping as part of conceiving, i.e. not philosophical reflection, but rather an artistically gripping reflex by intervening in the physical immediacy of such predetermined elements. These penetrate and infect the structural events, inducing a musicianship that cannot be relied upon; the music jumps onto rhythms like onto moving vehicles, allows for being carried by them until they deform or disintegrate. This creates an incline of rhythmically shaped situations: sequence and interweaving of dances and structures. The role of the solo string quartet is versatile, obbligato and concertante, leading and accompanying in a changing sense. Set as a chamber music apparatus in an orchestral landscape, it repeatedly forces its own sound dimensions onto the orchestra, it must accept being drowned out at times, it nests in the holes of tutti fields, it acts as a louse in the fur, forcing one to listen in and out.The Tanzsuite with Deutschlandlied is structured as follows:I. Section. 1. Introduction - 2. Waltz - 3. March - 4. Bridge -II. Section. 5. Siciliano - 6. Capriccio - 7. Valse lente -III. Section. 8. Bridge - 9. Gigue - 10. Tarantelle - 11. Bridge -IV. Movement 1 is a plaintive waltz with lush romantic harmonies. Movement 2 is a comedic interpolation featuring portions of two etudes by Muzio Clementi and the tick-tick sound of the typewriter. Conflict, reconciliation, resolution, and acceptance is the conveyed essence of movement 3. And with a reverent duet introduction, the final movement of Elégie à nos mères commemorates the end of Florilyn's long life. Crossover Suite No. 1 comprises five stylistically very diverse movements. 1. INTRODUCTION: A brisk opening leads to a bass groove on bass clarinet. Various animated stylistic elements such as finger snaps are contrasted with 'straighter' elements familiar from march music. 2. VIENNESE WALTZ: A waltz in a minor key, with the characteristic and unmistakable accompaniment in the Viennese style. 3. ROUNDABOUT: Roundabout is a rondo with recurring motifs and a point of rest in the adagio. 4. STOMPS AND CLAPS: As the name suggests, the work is performed with the help of hands and feet. Body percussion alternates with technically demanding passages. 5. FINALE: A rapid final movement with a dolce middle part leads to a furious closing section with changes of meter and some dynamic surprises. Each movement can also stand on its own, but when performed as a complete suite this composition shows off the full breadth and capability of a clarinet quartet. $40.00 - See more - Buy online

This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively.
You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written.
The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions dâÂÂOz website and on YouTube. Search for àvos guitares, prêt, joue! Vol. 4.
