SATB choir & Piano or Organ SKU: ST.CN7P Composed by Peter Foggitt. ChoralNow. This PRINTED version is available to purchase as a regular sheet music title for delivery by post. Octavo. Stainer & Bell Ltd. #CN7P. Published by Stainer & Bell Ltd. (ST.CN7P). ISBN 9790220224645. A tour de force of choral energy and expertise in rhythmic precision, this is aerial music, fleet and vibrant as voices proclaim Martin Luther's vision of universal peace above a torrent of cascading organ scales. The brightness of the Lydian mode matches this joyful proclamation, intoned chant-like in bold, clear intervals recalling the sounds both of medieval music and its refraction through the ears of modern masters like Stravinsky and Tavener. Cunningly constructed too, on a four-bar ostinato, the music reverses its opening scale figure for a quieter section before building again to an extrovert ending that repeats the chant against new organ figures in a clinching 'alleluia'. $5.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Score and Parts Percussion; Piano (Score & Parts) SKU: HL.234541 For P...(+)
Score and Parts Percussion; Piano (Score & Parts) SKU: HL.234541 For Piano and Percussion - Score and Parts. Composed by John Luther Adams. Music Sales America. Classical. Set. Composed 2017. Duration 1950 seconds. Chester Music #CH86273. Published by Chester Music (HL.234541). 9.25x12.0x0.571 inches. English. 'Four Thousand Holes is my own effort to re-appropriate and reclaim for myself something of my own musical past. For the first time since my days as a rocker, I've chosen to restrict myself to major and minor triads - those most basic elements of Western music (both pop and classical). But I've tried to assimilate them fully into my own musical world. Approaching these simple chords as found objects, I've superimposed them in multiple streams of tempo, to create darker harmonies and lush fields of sound. In recent years, I've been fortunate enough to form a close musical partnership with Stephen Drury. Steve's extraordinary gifts inspired me to explore expansive forms and textures (similar to those of my orchestral music) with only one or two performers, In essence, Four Thousand Holes is a concerto. To begin I composed the score for the electronic tracks. Steve recorded all of the individual chords that occur in the score. I took these recordings, time-stretched them, reversed their envelopes, and knit the reversed sounds together with their original decays. The resulting waves of sound I layered into ten independent tracks to create the virtual 'orchestra'. Next I composed the Piano part, articulating the peaks of all the electronic tracks simultaneously - a feat of coordination that demands considerable virtuosity from the pianist. Finally I composed another multi-layered part for metallic percussion sounds that I think of as sparks emanating from the piano. In Four Thousand Holes, strong musical currents fall and rise, again and again, as points and lines are juxtaposed with heavy, hammered chords. The mix of 'live' and electronic sounds blurs the distinction between musical figure and ground. As in much of my recent music, I conceive of the entire piece as a single complex sonority that evolves slowly. As we settle into the sound, we begin to hear longer lines, counterpoint, and maybe even the occasional trace of a tune.' - John Luther Adams. $45.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band (Study Score) SKU: HL.4008056 Op. 55 Wind Orchestra, Grade 6 27:00 Study Score. Composed by Franco Cesarini. De Haske Concert Band. Concert, Fanfare, Jazz. Softcover. Fascinated by the beauty of Chicago, Franco Cesarini has translated his emotions into music: this is how Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapes†Op. 55, was born, a musical portrait of this metropolis overlooking Lake Michigan. The composition is divided into three movements: The Wrigley Building from Dawn to Noon, Blue Silhouette and Cloud Gates, which by sharing the same thematic material arranged in cyclical form, strengthen the overall cohesion of the piece. The first movement, preceded by a short slow introduction in which the main theme is presented in an almost dreamlike form, metaphorically represents the city at dawn. The sudden change of time symbolizes the start of activities with all its noises and sounds: you can hear the bell that announces the closing of the subway doors, the sound of cars speeding by, the siren of a patrol car. If the first movement represents the day, the second introduces a nocturnal environment: a melancholic melody played by the English horn anticipates a more animated tempo depicting melodies coming from jazz clubs. Powerful fanfares that take up the second theme of the first movement introduce the third movement. In this finale, the role of the two themes is reversed compared to the first movement and one takes the place of the other in a kind of games of mirrors. Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapes” Op. 55: a sumptuous musical portrait of the “Windy City”. $26.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9387). ISBN 9790004188576. 0 x 0 inches. Commissioned by the Kolner Philharmonie (KolnMusik) for the non bthvn projekt 2020 and the Cite de la musique / Philharmonie de Paris Dedicated to Arditti Quartet Each movement of this quartet explores a single state, its lights and its shadows. Each movement, you could say, is a moment . And these moments could last for more or less time without compromising their essential nature. The processes could be extended or compressed, repeated or reversed, but the core ideas - if they are ideas, but maybe they are simply experiences? - are what they are. Despite this, the precise sequence of movements matters a great deal. Heard together they do articulate some kind of linear narrative, maybe even a metaphorical journey (albeit a circular one where the arrival might, who knows, prove to be a new departure). One situation gives way to another and instrumental relationships within the quartet vary, but ultimately the imaginative impulse behind the piece preferences states of unity. Whether or not this unity is expressed texturally - sometimes literal unisons pervade, but not always - there is generally a sense that even seemingly diverse aspects relate to a fundamental condition of concord: a conscious limitation in the pitch structure to spectral emanations of the root notes E-flat and C. At the opening this is unambiguously audible in the perpetual alternation of these two notes in the low cello register. Later the two spectra are woven into a micro-tonal 'double-spectral-mode' (derived from the first 24 partials of the C and E-flat fundamentals), which defines the subtle melodic inflection of the second movement, and the never-quite-chromatic ascending scales of the third. For now this feels like a rich source of melodic possibility, so far only just glimpsed... And why the insistence on E-flat? Probably by way of historical anecdote. Apparently Karl Holz (a member of the Schuppanzigh Quartet) said to Beethoven: We performed your Quartet in E-flat Op. 127 in his [Weber's] honour; he found the Adagio too long; but I told him: Beethoven also has a longer feeling and a longer imagination than anyone standing or not standing today. - Since then, even Linke (another member of the quartet) can no longer stand him: we cannot forgive him for this. Listening again to Op. 127, in light of these comments, I was struck by the opening moment: the unfolding of an E-flat 7th chord over the course of a few bars. Every time I hear it I find myself wishing that Beethoven would have lingered longer there, without resolution or progression, just enjoying that sonority. And maybe - why not? - tune the 7th naturally. And what would it be to stretch that moment into an entire piece? What would Weber think of that?! In the end I was not so extreme in my self-limitation, and other concerns took over, but it was from these thoughts that the composition process began... Lastly, about the title: it comes from a book called 'The Clock of the Long Now' by Stewart Brand, published at the turn of the millennium. It's about the creation of a thousand-year clock to embody the aspiration to thinking in terms of longer time-spans than are presently habitual. If the music of Beethoven embodied a 'longer' feeling and imagination than some of his contemporaries were able to appreciate, what is our relation to time now? Longer or shorter? Maybe it depends who you ask... It's probably more extreme in both directions: attention spans might be diminishing in the digital world, but conversely there is an awareness of distant pasts and potential futures which would have been inconceivable at the time of Beethoven. In any case, the interesting thing is to ponder how societal conditions, assumptions and expectations might - whether consciously or unconsciously - influence the time of art, for listeners and creators alike. And what if time is running out? (Christian Mason)

My lecture of the Winterreise does not demand a new expressive interpretation, but instead systematically exercises the freedom which all interpreters allow themselves intuitively, such as: instrumental dilation i. e. acceleration of the pace, transposition into other keys and elaboration of characteristic color timbres. In addition, there are further ways of reading; the music; jumping around in the text, repeating certain lines, interrupting the continuity, comparing different expressions of the same phrase ... All these new possibilities are subjected to my compositional discipline and form autonomous formal processes which are imposed on Schuberts original. The motor-driven accompaniment present throughout the piece is inspired by the minimalist works of Steve Reich and Philip Glass, while the melodic and harmonic content reflect the polychordal harmony of composers like Roy Harris, William Schuman, and Vincent Persichetti. Composer George Sweet has written a new tour de force for the more advanced string orchestra. Shadow Run is inspired by the idea of a dangerous secret mission under the cover of night . The motor driven accompaniment present throughout the piece is inspired by the minimalist works of Steve Reich and Philip Glass, while the melodic and harmonic content reflect the polychordal harmony of composers like Roy Harris, William Schuman, and Vincent Persichetti . The piece begins with a brief motor introduction, which sets the mood for what is to follow . Make sure all elements of the motor are equal in volume and articulation so that the voices create a blended whole . The A-theme is stated in a legato fashion by the upper voices at m . 9 . This should be played as legato as possible to contrast with the motor in the lower voices . The voices unite for an aggressive B-section at m . 25 . The A-section returns at m . 33; however, the melodic material has mutated and features variations on a melodic fragment found in the first violin back in m . 24 . After a return of the B-material, the piece enters a subdued C-section at m . 57, in which the motor and melodic roles are reversed . Following a transitional section in which the motor returns, both A- and B-sections are repeated one final time . At m . 115, a dark and mysterious coda appears and drives the piece to a dramatic conclusion . About Carl Fischer Concert String Orchestra Series This series of pieces (Grade 3 and higher) is designed for advancing ensembles. The pieces in this series are characterized by: - Expanded use of rhythms, ranges and keys but technical demands are still carefully considered
- More comprehensive bowing techniques
- Viola T.C. included

ISBN 9790902260480. 8.27 x 11.7 inches. Heavenly Father was commissioned by Sydney Chamber Choir for a concert in 2022 which featured Heinrich Schütz’s Musikalische Exequien. Melodic lines from Schütz’s work are used throughout Heavenly Father: the first soprano melody in the opening chorus at ‘Herr Gott Vater in Himmel’ is featured at the beginning and repeated throughout, as are the melodies, for example, at ‘Also hat Gott die Welt geliebt’, and at ‘seinem verklärten Leibe’, among other places.
In a conversation about what this commission would be, it was agreed that the sense of the work would be about the circle of life expressed in Musikalische Exequien rather than about death itself. It is because of this ‘sense’ that the end of Heavenly Father is reversed, illustrating a musical circle: the lower voices sing the ‘Herr Gott Vater in Himmel’ phrase backwards, and the upper voices sing the melodies backwards that were sung by the lower voices at the beginning. $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Playing Score SKU: HL.370871 For Six Pianos Playing Score. Composed by Kevin Volans. Piano. Softcover. 44 pages. Chester Music #CH88190. Published by Chester Music (HL.370871). ISBN 9781705147443. UPC: 840126994773. 9.0x12.0 inches. Kneeling Dance is based on a cyclic 24 chord progression which I have treated in various ways: shortening, extending, reversing, filtering and intensifying with added notes. To this I've added 2 freely-composed and independent bass parts, and a coda which explores several interlocking techniques. With the dense agglomeration of chords I hoped to build up a sustained resonance in the inner voices. The title has no particular significance. -Kevin Volans. $19.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

At first I thought I would have the clarinet doing the billing and the flute doing the cooing, then I reversed it, and finally mixed it up, so that I can't even tell what's what. The piece is playful and radiates gentle affection.. $19.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
