The merger of the first Nation and modern Albertan cultures-Drums of the Saamis was commissioned by the Medicine Hat Concert Band Society of Medicine Hat Alberta Canada. The piece chronicles the merger of the First Nation (first natives) and modern Albertan cultures.The opening tribal drums followed by the haunting melody simulating the traditional wooden flute comprise two themes that are the foundation for the entire piece. Both elements are developed varied and enhanced throughout as the listener senses the increasing influence of modern day Alberta through the use of modern sounding chords and rhythms.By the end the marriage of the old and the new is complete. This powerful work closesas it began; a restatement of themes representing the musical and historical foundation of the region. Dur: 5:00

When you look out at the ocean what does it resemble? This unique driving composition paints that picture. The upper Atlantic beaches hold many stories from beautifully scenic sunrises to the wrath of Hurricane Sandy. Three high schools in Toms River New Jersey commissioned the musical depiction of their celebrated shore from joy to turbulence. The heavy emphasis on percussion only adds to the exciting build and powerful ending. Dur: 4:15

The Decorah (IA) High School Wind Ensemble commissioned Enchanted Spaces to both capture the magic of their “enchanted” city and to be very playable at the high school level. A sparkling full ensemble entrancegives way to musical paintings of vast spaces and natural beauty. The ebb and flow between grand sounds and lush charm perfectly balance this shimmering composition. Even though the themes used in this beautiful setting are original it is intended to be played in the style of a slow Southern folk hymn similar to Amazing Grace or Shenandoah. Filled with suspensions and resolutions as well as calm moments and powerfully emotional builds this is a marvelous work for expanding your ensemble’s stylistic and dynamic range.

Based on Greensleeves-Here is a unique and creative setting of the familiar tune Greensleeves (What Child Is This?) that opens with the melody scored softly for the woodwinds. The full ensemble contributes a series of harmonically rich phrasesuntil the work reaches an emotional climax at the powerfully scored key change. While this is certainly effective as a holiday offering it can be performed as a memorable tone poem any time of the year. Dur: 4:10

Autumn on White Lake was commissioned by Lakeland High School of White Lake Michigan. Sounds that conjure golden leaves crisp air and rustic memories envelop your ensemble as well as the audience in this flourishing work as itrecalls an October visit to this beautiful region. Dur: 6:30

This uniquely constructed work was commissioned by the 2008 South Carolina High School All-State Band and consists of a series of gorgeous melodic textures surrounding one ever-present note. The listener hears this note briefly in the beginning and the end but it is skillfully hidden in between. From lush soft passages to crescendos that leave your audience breathless this composition will provide you and your ensemble with an unforgettable musical experience!
