Bach (1685-1750) wrote For the 15th Sunday after Trinity and at any time, indicating that he had composed it for any joyous occasion. It is his only religious cantata scored for solo soprano and trumpet. The first performance took place on September 17, 1730 in Leipzig. Gottfried Reiche, Bach's principal trumpeter, would likely have played the virtuoso trumpet part. As traditional culture in Leipzig generally eschewed female voices at the time, the vocal solo might have been sung by a boy soprano. This edition by Wilhelm Rust was created in 1863 as part of the Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe (Bach Society Edition). The continuo part was realized by Max Seiffert. Despite these most challenging of circumstances, ANIM continues to provide an extraordinary learning environment for all its students regardless of gender, ethnicity or social circumstances. They are committed to assuring musical rights, rebuilding lives through music, training future music educators, establishing intercultural dialogue and to reviving and preserving Afghan Music. Gulistan-e Nur: The Rosegarden of Light is dedicated with great admiration to Dr. Ahmad Sarmast and to the students and staff of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul, particularly remembering those who were injured in the 11 December attack. The work is also dedicated to Kevin Bishop and members of the pioneering ensemble Cuatro Puntos who are dedicated to global co-operation and peace through the teaching, writing and performance of music worldwide. Cuatro Puntos gave the premiere on 24 September 2015 at the Lutheran Church of St. Mark, Glastonbury, Connecticut, USA. The alto cantata Geist und Seele wird verwirret has seven movements; in the opening movements of the two parts of the cantata, a lost concerto by Bach survives in its original form, which he had arranged for organ. There is also an obbligato organ part in all the three arias, sometimes including virtuosic writing. Lehms takes the Gospel reading for the 12th Sunday after Trinity, which deals with the healing of a deaf and dumb person, and makes it apply more universally: God wants to open the ears of the faithful soul and loosen its tongue, so that it can praise his wonderful works. Unlike most of the other cantatas, in line with the text model Bach avoids the use of a choir for the concluding movement of the work. The cantata was written for the 12th Sunday after Trinity which fell on 8 September 1726 in the year of its first performance. The text comes from the collection Gottgefalliges Kirchen-Opffer by Georg Christian Lehms, who was court poet and court librarian in Darmstadt. From his Weimar period onwards, Bach set several texts from this collection.
