In making this piano reduction the arranger has attempted to retain as much of the original version (for string orchestra and harpsichord) as possible to give the soloist a clear idea of what is going on in the orchestra. Therefore certain passages especially in the third movement Elegy are rather tricky and not always easily playable. The composerĂąÂÂs suggests omitting some of the notes in the chords if required or for example when a chord is repeated in succession to play the chord in full on the beat but to play only the outer notes of the chord after the beat. Where necessary spread chords can be played as marked.

Concerto in D minor BWV
1043: Cello Duet:

If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live...(+)
If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live the fantasy that everything Bach wrote he wrote for the cello. The concerto in D minor (BWV 1043) for two violins string orchestra and continuo by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is one of his most loved works. Indeed the slow movement may be one of the most popular and loved pieces in the instrumental literature. Traditionally it is believed to have been written in Köthen where he held the position of 'fĂŒrstlischer Kapellmeister' from 1717-1723 a town that saw the birth of the Brandenburg concertos and the solo works for violin and cello. The Dorian church mode (the absent Bflat in the key of Dminor) would also speak for the younger Bach. Recent research however has shown that the orchestral parts carefully written out by Bach himself and found among the papers of his son Carl Philip Emanuel date from around 1730. The sophistication of the composition also speaks for a later date than Köthen. The original score has been lost.Always in need of concert material for his 'Collegium Musicus' in Leipzig Bach made a version of the present concerto for two harpsichords (BWV 1062). The original key was transposed to C minor so that the top note would not exceed a D but remain within the range of a standard harpsichord. Another C minor concerto (BWV 1060) for two harpsi-chords often heard in an arrangement from the 1920's for violin and oboe by Max Schneider and Max Seiffert speaks for two concertos in D minor for two violins by Bach. When arranging an orchestral score for the pianoforte one has to remember that a double-bass sounds an octave lower than notated. This is a welcomed fact when dealing with two instruments that play the original solo parts an octave down. At the same time for a transcription of this kind the ambition must be to avoid the cello soloists playing in octaves with the violin tutti parts - which is what would happen were they to share the same material. This ambition made a piano reduction

Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Bach would almost certainly have approved of this string quartet arrangement of his famous concerto for violin and oboe (BWV 1060) by John Cooley as he was well known for making arrangements of his own works, according to instrumental resources at his disposal. Bach himself made an arrangement of this piece for two solo harpsichords and string orchestra. It is quite ?notey? but straightforward and accessible technically to reasonably good players as there are no tricky rhythms or high notes.
As well as this Bach concerto arrangement, SJ Music has also published John Cooley?s arrangements of Mozart?s piano duets K497 and K521 for piano trio and piano quartet respectively, Bach?s organ Passacaglia and Fugue for string quartet, and one of Purcell?s trio sonatas for string trio. / Date parution : 2022-03-16/ RĂ©pertoire / Quatuor Ă Cordes

D major - Partitur - = harpsichord - 3 violins and basso continuo or string orchestra editor: May, Helmut W. composer: Pachelbel, Johann Série: Concertino Difficulté: intermediate pages: 12 With this work, Pachelbel, who was born in Nuremberg, created one of the most popular orchestral pieces of the baroque period. In the canon two of the strictest contrapuntal forms are combined: The three violin parts form an extensive canon with entries of two bars distance. To this, a ground bass (basso ostinato) has been added repeating its two-bar tone formula 28 times. The technical mastery of the piece can be ad-mired just as much as its effect lies in the melodic and sensuous power of its string tones. The modest technical demands on the musicians are diametrically opposed to the compositional level: they do not go beyond the third position.

| Michael Nyman: Concerto

Quoting Nyman: This Concerto was composed during the winter of 1994/95 for Elisa...(+)
Quoting Nyman: This Concerto was composed during the winter of 1994/95 for Elisabeth Chojnacka who gave the first performance with the Michael Nyman String Orchestra on 29th April 1995 in the Queen Elizabeth Hall London. Itshistory is eccentric and cumulative. I had met Elisabeth in Paris about a year earlier while I was working on the soundtrack for Diane Kurys' film A la Folie (Six Days Six Nights). I was attempting to persuade her to play mysolo piece The Convertibility of Lute Strings (1992) but she expressed a passion only for tangos. As luck would have it one of the cues of the Kurys score was what I fondly called a tango. Elisabeth showed interest in this andI subsequently turned it in to a harpsichord solo. Sadly during the writing of the piece my friend the composer Tim Souster died tragically. Elisabeth's enthusiasm for Tango for Tim encouraged me to write the Concerto forher. The Concerto is shaped as a very simple ABA form - the outer sections derived from The Convertibility for Lute Strings enfold an elaborated version of Tango for Tim. After the first performance Elisabeth decreed thatthe true potential of the Concerto could only be fulfilled by the addition of a cadenza. This was duly composed in the summer of 1995 - a toccata derived from harmonies first heard in the immediate post-Tango for Tim Convertibility material. (Elisabeth subsequently ordained that the cadenza could also have a life outside the Concerto as a concert piece if it had a few extensions added. Hence - inevitably the title of the piece - ElisabethGets Her Way.Duration c. 22mins.

for Flute and Harpsichord obbligato (Piano)-The B Minor Suite has a special place among the four extant Orchestral suites by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1066-1069) for two reasons: it is the only suite that calls for only one wind instrument and the only one with extensive solo passages for one instrument. Since moreover it is essentially Bach's only composition for solo Flute with Orchestra it enjoys great favour among flutists.A proper string ensemble is not always at one's disposal. Therefore an arrangement {or Flute and Obbligato Harpsichord has been prepared similar to one Bach himself might have written. The aim here has been to do nothing thatBach himself would not have done yet to refrain from doing everything of which he was capable.
