De muzikale ontwikkeling van Stevie Wonder begon op jonge leeftijd. Vanwege zijn blindheid liet zijn moeder hem niet graag buiten spelen. Stevie luisterde zodoende veel naar muziek, terwijl hij met lepels en pannen het ritme mee drumde.Op zijn twaalfde, nadat hij zich op echte instrumenten had bekwaamd, werd hij ontdekt door Berry Gordy, de grondlegger van Motown. Zijn roem nam in de jaren zeventig een hoge vlucht met de hits Superwoman, Superstitionen You Are the Sunshine of My Life, een song die Naohiro Iwai bewerkte tot een sprankelende hit voor blaasorkest.

Stevie Wonders musikalische Karriere begann schon sehr früh. Wegen seiner Blindheit konnte er nicht wie die anderen Kinder draußen spielen. So hörte er viel Musik und spielte dazu auf Schüsseln und Töpfen Schlagzeug. Als er zwölf Jahre alt war und schon auf echten Instrumenten spielen konnte, entdeckte ihn der Motown-Pionier Barry Gordy. In den siebziger Jahren wurde er durch Hits wie Superwoman, Superstition und eben das hier in einer Bearbeitung von Naohiro Iwai vorliegende You Are the Sunshine of My Life berühmt.

This work was originally scored as a tone poem that was written in 1874 by well-known French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The basis of the piece is an old French superstition where at the stroke of midnight on Halloween, Death appears and summons the dead to dance while he plays his music for them. In a familiar 3/4, it's spooky enough for a Halloween performance and classical enough for any program or contest all year long! (3:15).
