ISBN 9783795778316. 'Astutuli' are the cheeky super-bright people who get taken all too easily by a clever con-man. Nobody wants to be the dumb one; thus, the audience first lose a healthy sense of truth, then they lose their clothes and their purses and eventually all their dignity. 'Everything is make-believe!' shouts the entertainer before disappearing with his accomplice and the loot. It's a rascal's tale, a story of deception, which is both fascinating and amusing. But behind all that - and unnoticeable until the very end - we find deceit, spoon-feeding and theft. All this is presented in Carl Orff's 'rootsy' and powerful Bavarian style - both linguistically and musically. - This recent DVD edition 'Carl Orff' presents a new view of the significant 20th-century composer Carl Orff (1895-1982). A bird is considered to have fledged at the time when its wing muscles and feathers are sufficiently developed for flight. When young birds have reached this stage, but are still dependent on their parents for care and feeding, they are referred to as fledglings. This piece musically follows a fledgling as it begins the long process of learning to fly. It starts out tentatively, gains ability, struggles, and then eventually soars. In all instances where a longer note is tied to an eighth note, players should release, stopping the sound, on the eighth note. For example, a dotted half note tied to an eighth note should have a definite stop at the beginning of beat 4.Measures 20–26: The sudden changes in dynamics should be exaggerated to produce a somewhat pronounced awkward effect.Measures 52–57: The flute, oboe, and clarinet parts should produce a constant flowing sound in the slurred eighth notes, breathing on the eighth-note rests.Measures 66–67: Make sure the staccatos are very short and pronounced, but do not cover the melody in the low brass and reeds.Measures 72–86: Emphasize the accents on the upbeats in the percussion instruments.Measure 83: Emphasize the crescendo to forte and then immediately drop to mezzo-forte. $65.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

This book contains collective insights from some of the most inspirational high school orchestra directors in the United States. They reveal their ideas on rehearsal philosophy, rehearsal preparation, warm-up strategies, favorite repertoire, tone/bow control, intonation, articulation, expression, online instruction, recruiting and building community. Each of their stories is as unique as the individual strategies and approaches they share. You will surely be inspired by their ideas, approaches, and strategies presented in Rehearsing the High School Orchestra. I know the most joy in my life has come from my violin. (Albert Einstein) —Gail Barnes, University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill) —David Eccles, The Lovett School, Atlanta, Georgia I want every student who comes through my door to enjoy and see the value of music. —Creston Herron, Klein High School, Klein, Texas Without music, life would be a mistake. (Friedrich Nietzsche) —Cathie Hudnall, Norcross High School, Norcross, Georgia To make a resolution and act accordingly is to live with hope. There may be difficulties and hardships, but not disappointment or despair if you follow the path steadily. Do not rest in your efforts, without stopping, without haste, carefully taking a step at a time forward will surely get you there. (Shinichi Suzuki) —Scott Laird, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Durham, North Carolina Orchestra class teaches so much more than how to play a stringed instrument. We learn valuable life skills in ‘O.R.C.H.E.S.T.R.A’—Opportunity, Responsibility, Concentration, Honesty, Effort, Self-Discipline, Trust, Respect, and Attitude. —Charles Laux, Alpharetta High School, Alpharetta, Georgia I teach excellence and the commitment it takes to be excellent. Music is the discipline that I use to teach this. While music is a beautiful artform, the subject matter is never more important than the subject itself. —Kirt Mosier, Youth Symphony of Kansas City, Kansas City, Missouri You are the music while the music lasts. (T. S. Eliot) —Kirk Moss, University of Northwestern—St. Paul, Roseville, Minnesota The job of teaching is less about feeding information to students, and more about making them hungry. —Christopher Selby, School of the Arts, Charleston, South Carolina High achievement always takes place within the framework of high expectations. Early one spring a robin nested in the bend of the downspout under my neighbors roof. Through an upstairs window, I could easily observe her feeding the newly hatched birds. A couple weeks passed before I spotted one of the babies perched on the edge of the nest. To my surprise, I witnessed it suddenly take flight for the first time, with a rustle of wings and a rocky descent to the ground. Feeling worried, I hurried outside to see what would happen. Part of me wanted its mother to come to the rescue, but deep down I knew this tiny creature would have to fend for itself. I wrote this composition for those who face such seminal moments as they muster the courage to leap from one stage of life into the next. Flute, Violin and Cello SKU: BT.MUSM570366446 Composed by Evis Sammoutis. Classical. Set of Parts. 24 pages. University of York Music Press #MUSM570366446. Published by University of York Music Press (BT.MUSM570366446). English. Evis Sammoutis ' Particles (2015) for Flute (doubling Piccolo and Alto Flute), Violin and Cello. Particles was commissioned by the 2015 Milano EXPO for the musicians of the Divertimento Ensemble. The composer was one of 50 finalists selected after an International Competition by Expo 2015’s Italian Pavilion. The competition was organised by Divertimento Ensemble, in collaboration with the City of Milano, the Region of Lombardia, MITO SettembreMusica and Sentieri selvaggi and all composers had to create compositions inspired by the theme 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life'. The composer decided to concentrate on exploring the notion of “Particles” (the smallest basic unitsof matter and energy), as the means of creating the main formal profile of this composition. This notion extends to all formal devises (texture, figure and gesture). To use an analogy, listening to this composition should feel like looking at a mosaic from an extremely short distance, one’s eyes almost touching the intrinsic small tiles that create the larger picture. From this alternative perspective, one begins to observe completely different patterns, which went unperceived as part of the greater picture, just as a closer look at a mosaic might reveal intricate bands of colour that would have been unnoticed from a greater distance. When this happens one can really appreciate the tiny details and nuances of the composition. Seen from afar, these “particles” create different textures than they do from a closer distance or through a microscope exploration, different matters and different qualities of energy. This composition brings into foreground microscopic “pictures” of the particles that constitute the totality of the work, while simultaneously and unavoidably giving, in its totality, a larger formal picture over the course of time. Whilst the music is constructed into noticeably different blocks of sound, each segment nevertheless originates from the same source, from the same particle. $35.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

What God did two millennia ago was so unexpected, so far from anything we could comprehend, we failed to recognize it. God, the Father showed us mercy. The infinitely Holy reached out to the utterly sinful. God, the Son came to us. The mundane was confronted by the miraculous--a Child in a manger, the Bread of Life in a feeding trough for animals. From the foundations of the earth, He planned mercy--in a manger. It was a mercy manger. $12.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

SKU: SP.TS572 Composed by Tony Santorella. Collection; Recreational. Book. Santorella Publications #TS572. Published by Santorella Publications (SP.TS572). ISBN 9781585607587. The next book in this exciting series has arrived! The popularity of coloring books for the middle school aged to adult artist, while relatively recent, has become one of the faster growing recreational activities for artists of all skill levels. It took the innovation of the publisher you've known for many years, however, to marry the visual arts with music in this never seen before original concept and series, exclusively available from Santorella Publications. Experience the high quality you've come to expect from Santorella Publications in More Colors of Music, with over 60 musical instruments from around the world depicted with intricate background patterns. Each image is printed on heavy stock on only one side of the page to avoid bleed-through. Printed in the larger 9 x 12 size, with Santorella s lay-flat binding, the book is designed to last for years, while each page is perforated for easy removal and coloring. Every illustration, while a work of art on its own, will become a one-of-a-kind original piece with your personal touch; a work of art truly suitable for framing. The foreword from, More Colors of Music. The Colors of Music began the journey. Artist and musicians experienced a new level of meditative creativity with over 60 familiar musical instruments to color and make their own. More Colors of Music continues this journey with over 60 additional images dedicated to instruments from around the world. This collection of unusual instruments, both past and present offers an additional cultural context, reminding us how art and music not only enable us to share cultural similarities, but also explore our differences in a way which makes the world a little smaller. From the dawn of time, coloring has been one of the most basic forms of self-expression and is often the first creative process which many of us experience. Taking an existing image or pattern and making it our own is a uniquely personal experience. We decide which creative implements to use, perhaps crayons, pencils, or markers, and which colors to apply. As we color, we find we are in control of the entire process, limited only by our imagination, and when we are done, we have an artistic embodiment of our own personality, as unique and individual as each of us is to the other. It makes no difference if we are relatively skilled or unskilled; we express what is in our heart and mind each and every time we set pencil to paper. As we become more experienced and skilled, we acquire the power through technique and style to more freely express what is so clear in our imagination. In time, our creations become freely expressed works of art. Both art and music have creativity at their core. They allow the artist or musician, both young and old, to freely express feelings within while providing a sense of joy, tranquility, and meditative focus. The Colors of Music and More Colors of Music literally remind us that art and music are on the same page. This highly sought-after series, by Santorella Publications, will provide both the artist and musician with yet another creative channel for self-expression and individualism, as well as the opportunity for some much-needed downtown from the hard work of practicing and the rigors of everyday life. Experience the fun and satisfaction of The Colors of Music and More Colors of Music for yourself, and turn each page to discover the endless possibilities and opportunities for creativity and relaxation, as you nurture and cultivate your inner spirit, while feeding your soul with peace, tranquility, color, and harmony. The journey continues, so have some fun! $16.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

About T.N.TAs a matter of practicality, when I was first asked to write a piece for the New York Theatrical Community Choir in 2005 by its music director, David Wolfson, I immediately decided to write a Kyrie. After all, I thought..., the text is only about four words and eliminated the need for a lyricist. Most appealing, however, was the fact that it would bring me one step closer to finishing the Mass that I was in the process of writing. If ever there was a case to be made for divine inspiration this appeared to be it. David Wolfson liked the idea and casually mentioned that there was another Kyrie and a religious hymn on the program. He also mentioned that the choir consisted predominantly of actors that sing.Like a bolt of lightning, divine intervention interceded whereupon I instantly realized that he needed a piece to wake up the audience, not another Kyrie. I took a breath and spontaneously began to talk through and improvise the concept of a piece that became the basis for Taxi.At that moment I was clueless as to what kind of piece I would write but it appeared to be a good idea at the time. David's reaction to my presentation was something like Okay,...I have no idea what you are talking about but let's try it. After a very successful public performance, he was delighted that I decided not to write a Kyrie and remarked that writ-ing a piece like Taxi for this group was like feeding raw meat to a pack of hungry lions. At that moment, the idea of doing a trilogy of similar pieces was born. For the last two seasons of the choir's existence I was asked to write a new piece and... as a matter of practicality, I happily agreed.-- Joe GianonoNote: Taxi, Noise, and Time may be performed separately. $2.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

$2.25 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SKU: GI.G-10054 Imagining the Good Life through Music. Composed by...(+)
SKU: GI.G-10054 Imagining the Good Life through Music. Composed by Clint Randles. Music Education. 328 pages. GIA Publications #10054. Published by GIA Publications (GI.G-10054). ISBN 9781622774548. We all need creativity in our lives. It is key to our happiness. Music, according to author Clint Randles, is one of the best ways to feed our longing for self-growth through engagement in creative processes. And music brings us together for the purpose of making beauty with sound. It provides us with a pathway to the good life. In To Create, Randles answers the critical question: What can I do with my time that will give me the best chance at achieving daily happiness? This amazing book unpacks what it means to engage in creative processes. Since story is the best way of feeding our imagination, the book unfolds by way of life stories that express the author’s unique perspective of the hero’s journey. Along the way, Randles inspires us to think about creativity and music as a pursuit that is not only truly worthy, but accessible. He addresses rules for creative performance, what we can learn from exceptional musicians and teachers, the link between spirituality and creativity, understanding our own stories in light of the meta-story, and the art of trust and starting small. To Create is a book that is unlike anything written on the topic—entertaining, wise, inspiring, and layered. It is for anyone who is interested in pursuing creativity through music but can’t quite figure out how or where to start. States Randles: “It is my hope that you will be able to imagine the good life through music, that you will be inspired To Create!†Clint Randles, PhD, is Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of South Florida, husband, father, multi-instrumentalist, and passionate lover of music.  Full of resonating stories, To Create is a profoundly pedagogical book about potential pathways into life’s learnings through and in music. To Create seeks and embraces the value embodied in the multiple, individual, and sociocultural authoring of diverse creativities. By analogising the good life (‘eidaimonia’), with lived-through experiences by which our desire (and drive) to create, to grow, to navigate, and to achieve extraordinary things in life is inextricably linked, Clint Randles stories his own journey of being awakened ‘To Create,’ by creating and living ‘the good life’ in and through the symbiotic domains of music and music education. —Pamela Burnard, Professor of Arts, Creativities and Educations   University of Cambridge, UK To Create is the rare achievement that seamlessly blends how-to curriculum with why-so philosophy, making the case that creative activity is an essential right that all children deserve from an education in music. Randles’ vivid illustrations prod us to think differently about teaching when well-being—when the good life—is both destination and design. —Randall Everett Allsup, Professor of Music Education   Teachers College Columbia University Randles takes readers on a real and figurative road trip during which he demonstrates how to live life to its fullest by embracing creativity and repeating a mantra of possibility. He shows us how the good life is achievable, walking readers through deeply personal accounts of creativity in everyday situations over a lifetime. This book binds the individual and cultural, imaginative and practical, tangible and intangible, light and dark, yin and yang. It’s all about the power of three, weaving through everything the vital, intangible element of spirituality, energy, chi to achieve eudaimonia. Through the lens of his experiences as a musician and teacher, the author celebrates relentlessness and hard work, providing a window into what it means to engage in the good life. Open that window to hear life’s call to adventure! —Gareth Dylan Smith, Assistant Professor of Music Education   Boston University Professor Randles’ stimulating book prompts memory of the seminal work of Joseph Schumpeter who suggested the importance of creative deconstruction in a democracy. Both authors focus on attaining the good life through a fuller understanding of the logic of the process of change—change that is driven by knowledgeable and innovative entrepreneurs. The immediate application of Randles’ suggested dynamic creativity processes applies to both teacher education and professional development, although both he and Schumpeter advance general ideas in creativity designed to achieve the highest level of human growth. —Richard Colwell, Professor Emeritus of Music Education   University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign In recent years, Aristotle’s concept of ‘Eudaimonia’—meaning Happiness in the robust sense of full human flourishing (a life of joy, fellowship, self-growth, meaningfulness, ethical ‘good work,’ and more)—has entered and transformed the philosophy and practice of music education. To Create: Imagining the Good Life through Music is a highly original, emotional, practical, and exciting journey through the natures and values of creativity in/for music education and life itself. —David J. Elliott, Professor of Music and Music Education   New York University. $22.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

SKU: HL.402083 Concert Ayre for Baritone and Chamber Ensemble. Composed by Iain Bell. Vocal. Softcover. Duration 480 seconds. Chester Music #CH85602. Published by Chester Music (HL.402083). ISBN 9781705160114. UPC: 196288056850. 9.0x12.0 inches. The anonymously-penned 'Tom O'Bedlam' is one of the best known examples of c.17th mad-song poetry. Part saga, part stream-of-consciousness, Tom recounts his descent to madness by virtue of his libidinous lifestyle and speaks of his life begging on the streets of London. The text conveys wit, anger, sexual bravado, fear and boastfulness but each strophe is capped with the shameful, pitiful refrain of Tom's begging call Any food, any feeding?. These contrasting moods lend themselves wonderfully to a musical setting, offering both singer and chamber orchestra the opportunity to express the whole gamut of musical coloring, from the most intimate utterances of Tom's begging call, to his rage all, illustrated richly by the chamber orchestra within which each player plays a 'solo', active part in the storytelling. $14.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
