Coro SMsATBarB - Grade 4 SKU: CA.744800 Arranged for Pop-Up. Composed by Manuel Grunden. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Full Score. Duration 5 minutes. Carus Verlag #744800. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.744800). ISBN 9790007300043. Latin. Over its long history, the Advent song Veni, veni, Emmanuel has been adapted time and again to create many different versions with their own unique melodies and textual variants. The melody from the German Protestant hymnal to the text O komm, o komm, du Morgenstern probably dates from the 15th century. Manuel Grunden’s arrangement of this version now places the hymn in a new light. While respecting the sacred majesty of the original, Grunden has created a simple six-part arrangement in which the melody wanders through the different voices, encircled by long, dynamically shaped sustained notes. As the piece progresses, the joyful anticipation of the Savior’s anticipated arrival is expressed in impressive and dramatic climaxes. At the same time, jazz/pop harmonies bring fresh color to the simple melody. Offering a modern take on this very traditional song, Manuel Grunden’s piece can be easily integrated into any Advent concert program. $8.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band/Harmonie/Fanfare Band - Grade 2 SKU: BT.DHP-0840020-015 Lobt Gott, Ihr Christen alle gleich. Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Jacob De Haan. Christmas Collection. Sacred. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 1984. De Haske Publications #DHP 0840020-015. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-0840020-015). The Latin word Introitus means ‘entry’. Originally, this was a psalm sung to accompany the entrance of a bishop, priest or celebrant into the church. Later it was incorporated into the mass with alternating sung and spoken text, reflecting the mood of the liturgy. Jacob de Haan’s Introitus, in which he has arranged the hymns Puer natus est nobis and Lobt Gott, Ihr Christen alle gleich, is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season and can be performed with any instrumental combination with mixed choir and organ ad libitum.
$110.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ14461). Latin. Hungary has a thousand-year-old tradition of reverence for the Virgin Mary. In the course of the centuries the Church has found more and more occasions for the celebration of Mary. The greatest is the celebration of Mary?s assumption into heaven, which coincides with the anniversary of the death of Saint Stephen, on August 15. The texts of these choral works originate from various supplicatory prayers from the office, vocal texts and hymns. The six choral works don?t form a cycle, since the texts are associated with different liturgies. Sacred vocal music, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Full score. 8 pages. Duration 8 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 09.659/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.965900). ISBN 9790007165901. Text language: Latin. Mezzalira places his worked entirely in the tradition of Catholic church music: Gregorian elements are associated likewise with Palestrina's counterpoint and Bruckner's sonorous expansin. Thoroughly in the tradition of the motet, the Memorare is structured in four sections, each in accordance with their respective texts. This large structured composition begins in C minor from the depths of the men's voices, building to a song of lamentation which increases to an harmonically enriched E flat major passage on the words virgo maria. In the second section, harmonically in A flat major, Mezzalira places the upper and lower voices in a double choir opposed to each other in block-like manner in order to develop resonating cantilenas in the third part, which is in F major. After a very simple, tender four-part setting of a hymn the composition ends with an Amen with large modally enriched chords in D major. $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
| Stabat Mater Op. 53 PWM (Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne)
Vocal, Mixed Choir and Orchestra SKU: BT.PWM5447 For Soprano, Alto, Ba...(+)
Vocal, Mixed Choir and Orchestra SKU: BT.PWM5447 For Soprano, Alto, Baritone, Mixed Choir and Orchestra. Composed by Karol Szymanowski. Classical. Book Only. Composed 2000. 68 pages. Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne #PWM5447. Published by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne (BT.PWM5447). ''Stabat Mater'' by Karol Szymanowski for solo voices, chorus and orchestra, Op. 53, is one of the most famous and, at the same time, most personal works of the composer, making its appeal to the audience through the depth of its expression and sheer artistry. The first sketches of the work were made in the spring of 1925, while work on the full score occupied the composer from 20 January to 2 March 1926. Józef Jankowskis Polish translation of the medieval sequence formed the basis of the composition. This text, which was simple in a folk-like way, devoid of pathos but full of religious zeal, harmonized perfectly from the poetic point of view with the composers creative design. In an interview for the monthly Muzyka Szymanowski stated: ''in its Polish vestments that eternal, naive hymn was filled for me with its own immediate expressive content; it became something painted in colours which were recognisable and comprehensible as distinct from the black and white of the archaic original'' (''A Footnote to Stabat Mater'', Muzyka 1926, Nos. 11/12). In the score, the Latin text is given beside the Polish text, making it possible for the work to be performed more easily by foreign performers. In this work, the universal tradition of the Christian church was fused with the Polish religious tradition. The composer creates the religious folk-like climate primarily through the character of the melodies which are akin to to the plainchant melodies to the text of Stabat Mater (the sequence, and especially the hymn) and their paraphrases in Polish religious songs (e.g. Sta a Matka Bole ciwa [The Dolorous Mother was standing]) as well as motifs from Polish Lenten songs and Gorzkie ale (Bitter Laments). Szymanowski did not introduce them as quotations, but intersperses the melodic lines, which are more fully developed and frequently highly chromatic, with diatonic phrases, based on modal scales. They appear in all the movements of the work determining its cohesion. In dividing the twenty-stanza text into separate segments, Szymanowski created a six- movement cantata. He took care to distinguish between the emotional shades of the various movements, varying his selection of solo voices (soprano, contralto, baritone), the voices of the chorus (female or mixed) and the orchestral forces. In the first and third movements the lyrical idiom prevails; the first movement, portraying the Mother of God at the foot of the cross, has a narrative character, whereas the third is a kind of prayer from a man who sympathizes with, and who wishes to be associated with Mater Dolorosas pain. In these movements only the female voices are used (soprano, contralto and female chorus), while the orchestra is employed in a chamber style, sometimes drawing on solo accompanying parts (e.g. the beginning of the third movement). The fourth movement, which continues the mood of prayerful contemplation, is designed for soprano and contralto solo as well as unaccompanied chorus. On the other hand, the second and fifth movements, involving the participation of solo baritone and the full chorus and orchestra, are similar with regard to forces and their dramatic character, which is austere in expression, harsh in tone, and markedly dissonant. Here grand climaxes appear with powerful orchestral tutti. The sixth movement crowns the whole. The lyrical, soft melody of the solo soprano at the beginning is gradually strengthened by the addition of the female chorus and the solo contralto, and in the final section, the solo baritone as well as the tutti of chorus and orchestra. The conclusion, subdued and full of concentration, suggests the introvert character of the experience as opposed to its dramatic pathos. Stabat Mater by Szymanowski is part of a long tradition of compositions based on the text of the medieval sequence - ranging from polyphonic works by Josquin des Prés and Palestrina to the romantic Stabat by Giuseppe Verdi and Anton n Dvo ák. And it was perhaps because of his consciousness of this tradition that Szymanowski used stylizing devices in the spirit of early music. The archaization manifests itself not only in the character of the melodies and their modal framework, but also in the harmonies (with their predominance of triads, open fourths and fifths chords and doubled thirds), the simple rhythms as well as the texture of the choruses (esp. the fourth movement). The composer does not, however, imitate the style of any specific historical epoch, but combines resources taken from early music with modern tonal and harmonic techniques. Archaization in Stabat Mater serves, moreover, a symbolic function; in evoking the many-centuries old tradition of church music, it emphasizes the universal nature of the idea contained in the text of the sequence, while the re-reading of the text by the composer gives the work its individual features. Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Christmas mass, the Messe de Minuit, is throughly in the French tradition, celebrating the joyful news of the Birth of Christ with cheerful happiness. In this midnight mass, composed in 1694, ten traditional French Christmas hymns have been rearranged, lending the work a dance-like energy alongside charming tone coloring. In independent movements the relatively small instrumental ensemble consisting of two flutes, strings and organ plays a significant role in the musical events of this mass, alternating with various combinations of the vocal parts. Solo voices are only used together in small ensembles and, in accordance with the practices of the period, the boundaries between solo ensemble and choir are fluid, meaning that these solo passages can also be sung by members of the choir. SATB Choir SKU: BT.MUSM570368679 For choir and fixed media. Composed by Evis Sammoutis. Score Only. Composed 2019. 14 pages. University of York Music Press #MUSM570368679. Published by University of York Music Press (BT.MUSM570368679). Isthmus denotes a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger ars of land. The title is a metaphor for an effort to bond artistically my experiences of living in Cyprus, my birthplace, and in the USA, my recently adopted homeland. Having lived in a small, partitioned island for my formative years and in England for eleven years, water has always had a double meaning: it has at once served as a gateway to other cultures but also as a border, a violent and absolute interruption of a continuum. While in the USA, or indeed in a now connected Europe, it is possible to travel on land for days without having to encounter a border, in the countries where I lived for most of my life, that was not possible. As an artist, this notion of establishing boundaries and consciously trying to break them is very close to me, as my music deals both with modernity but also with tradition and, similarly, with metaphor and reality. As a Cypriot, the sea, the world of antiquity, the mysteries of the oracles, the notion of borders and the pastoral are all very central to my way of thinking. In Cyprus, different layers of history are frequently superimposed on a single building that might still preserve its Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman features in its layers of stone and architecture. Similarly, ancient ruins or the barbed wire of modern conflict often interrupt placid fields. An isthmus, therefore, can be seen to symbolize my artistic struggle to join strikingly different experiences and notions in a cohesive way. Similar to an isthmus, in this short piece, I connect these experiences with the purpose of creating a distinct and unique sonic context, connecting technology and tradition, the pastoral with the urban, the musical with the extra-musical and the abstract with the concrete. For example, the choir does not always sing in the traditional sense, but the singers imitate various natural sounds, such as water, air, crickets or birds, to create a vivid visual impression for the work. Scandinavian herding calls blend with field recordings from the seas of Cyprus and the lakes of Upstate New York, communicated within clearly defined, singular acoustic sources and spaces through wireless speakers. The text used is both onomatopoeic, articulating an imaginary language, but also literal, with a setting of the poem, “To make a prairie” by the iconic American poet Emily Dickinson and a tiny fragment from Callimachus’ “Hymn to Demeter.” Technology is used sparsely and very intentionally to articulate the expressive qualities of pastoral imagery, creating one unified synthetic timbre with the choristers’ sounds. This piece is dedicated to the wonderful singers of the Georgia Institute of Technology Chamber Choir with special thanks to Professors Hsu and Ulrich, without whose support this composition would not have been possible. Practical notes: A choir of no less than 24 singers is sought with 4 additional soloists (2 Sopranos and 2 Altos). Each singer must have their own wireless speaker, secured either in the music folder or as a strap inside their shirts. All sounds must match in volume the sound from the speakers, creating one unified timbre. The speakers should not be noticeable to the public. The four soloists are placed offstage at the beginning of the work. From 1:35’ onwards they enter the hall and take their positions, ideally at the four corners of the hall. If the hall is too large, the singers can find alternate positions, but these should always be antiphonal. The four soloists sing predominantly in the “kulning” style and the antiphonal aspect is very important to the work. There are two sound files for each section (SATB) that are triggered by each singer’s mobile device. The first occurs at the start of the piece, and the second, about a minute before the end. The sound files are able to be purchased separately, on CD, or are available directly from UYMP. $5.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Duration 4 minutes, 49 seconds. Opus III Wind Orchestra Publications #012-4571-75. Published by Opus III Wind Orchestra Publications (CL.012-4571-75). This exciting work depicts the lively and sunny nature of the state of Florida. Opening with a brilliant and majestic section highlighting the state's bright and vibrant culture, a flowing melody follows, representing the calming winds and consistent breeze of the state. Dance is a large part of Florida's culture, especially in its southern region, and the 7/8 rhythm captures an Afro-Latin style dance movement. The chorale/hymn section is based on the Florida Song, which is a traditional school song of many schools, including Florida A&M in Tallahassee. The work then recapitulates and moves toward a driving and joyful conclusion. An excellent contest/festival work! $30.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Op. 103g. 22 pages. Duration 9'. Schott Music #ED21338. Published by Schott Music (HL.49044612). ISBN 9790001187282. 9.0x12.0x0.099 inches. Latin. The rushing of the Holy Spirit to which the hymn 'Veni creator' refers is symbolized by fast semiquaver runs of the organ which return again and again during the whole piece. Alternately, the text is interpreted musically in seven verses according to the respective content. Traditional melodies appear in a contemporary harmonic makeup. From this context emerges a field of tension between old and new which eventually dissolves in the 'Amen' of the vocal soloist. The work on the rather demanding piece is rewarding for every performer and the performance at the church is very impressive. $15.99 - See more - Buy online
