The Library Of Romantic Music is a comprehensive collection of the greatest works of the Romantic period. Featuring composers like Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré, the works represented here truly some of the most beautiful ever composed. Now they're all in one conveniently spiral-bound volume, arranged for solo Piano for your sheer playing pleasure.Like the Baroque and Classical periods before it, Romantic music existed within a broader artistic, intellectual and literary movement. Emerging in the early 19th century it reflected a time of preoccupation with things mystical, spiritual, legendary and supernatural. This collection comprises fantastic original Piano works and beautiful arrangements from all the greatest composers of this era, including: Albéniz, Berlioz, Bizet, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorák, Debussy, Elgar, Fauré, Grieg, Mahler, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Ravel and so many more.Spanning the 19th century, the Romantic movement was a reaction to what had come before. Music proved to be a particularly rich medium of expression for a new Zeitgeist that prized individualism and spirituality. Drawing together composers whose background was as diverse as the music they created, the period proved to be a very broad church indeed. This makes The Library Of Romantic Music particularly exciting, because the extraordinarily rich and expressive music is collected here in a single volume that is durable, convenient and is sure to be a mainstay of your music stand. For a simply stunning compendium of some incredible pieces of music composed by the masters, The Library Of Romantic Music is essential. The greatest compositions from such a fantastically rich period have been collected in this single volume, perfect for pianists looking for beautiful additions to their repertoire. / Piano

in E flat major. Par STEFANI JAN. Composition was completed at the beginning of 1825, in stylistic terms it falls between Classicism and Romanticism. The straddling of stylistic epochs is evident in the four-movement design of the quartet, which refers do Classical solutions established during the previous centrury also in other genres. Nethertheles, it is worth drawing attention to the third movement, the minuet, which represented something of a testing ground for contrasting tradition with progress, history with the present, and formal with frivolous, which these popular dances may have symbolised. Stylistic hanges heading towards Romanticism are evident also in the way the work's melodic layer is organise. The Józef Stefani's advanced compositional skills prove his crucial contribution to the evolution of the string quartet on Polish soil. And the catchy melodic phases - for which Stefani ceirtanly had a gift - will stir the emotions of a many listener. / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / Quatuor à Cordes

Arrangeur: Mike Cornick. Par ELGAR EDWARD / CORNICK MIKE (ARR.). Although often regarded as quintessentially English in style, Elgar's music is undeniably deeply rooted in the German Romantic tradition. Elgar's gift for the creation of melody, often sequential and frequently including one of his most familiar 'fingerprints' - the falling seventh - might well be the most obvious attraction in his music. But underpinning those melodies is a sophisticated harmonic vocabulary which often reveals that wider Germanic influence, especially in moments of drama.
It is hoped that this set of piano duet arrangements, suitable for intermediate-level players and beyond, will continue to bring new performers to these Elgar favourites, whether they are simply playing for their own enjoyment or preparing for concert performance, and that they will find much to reward their efforts./ Répertoire / Piano 4 Mains

Par TURRIN JOSEPH. This exceptionally unique work by Joseph Turrin is composed in memory of Howard Hanson, one of the 20th century’s greatest proponents of American music. While decidedly modern in sound, the mood of this piece adheres to Hanson’s own belief in the value of “warm blooded music” rather than the pursuit of coldly abstract, purely cerebral music. Hanson’s influence on 20th century music and the post-Romantic style is clearly evident in SERENADE ROMANTIC. If you’ve ever wished for something genuinely different for your higher level group to explore you owe it to yourself to check out this remarkable piece. / Niveau : 5 / Musique pour célébration / Répertoire / Concert Band

Edward MacDowell was one of America's first and most important native-born composers. Smaller piano works have enhanced MacDowell's reputation more than any of his other compositions. He was a miniaturist and his small works are naturally imbued with sparkle and a charming romantic atmosphere. This early collection of piano pieces was written while the MacDowells lived in a small cottage outside of Wiesbaden, Germany. Legends, elves and love of nature permeated these character pieces. 'An Elfin Round' and 'To a Hummingbird' are Federation Festivals 2014-2016 selections. / Piano

This is a warm and romantic work in three movements which can be programmed separately but together add up to a structure of sonata dimensions. Bairstow's career spanned the whole strata of provincial musical life from choral society to music festival, and encompassed Organ playing, writing, teaching, conducting, accompanying, lecturing, composing and adjudicating as well as looking after the busy musical life of York Minster where he served as Organist and Master of the Choristers from 1913 until his death in 1946./ Répertoire / Orgue

Par SCHUMANN ROBERT. Clara Wieck's sincerest wish was that her future husband, Robert Schumann, turn his extraordinary genius toward the larger and more challenging task of composing orchestral music. Confiding in her diary in 1839, just one year before her marriage, she explained that ; it would be best if he composed for Orchestra: his imagination cannot find sufficient scope in the Piano… In the years that followed their marriage Robert Schumann continued to devote much of his attention to Piano music, but he also found the time to comply with his beloved Clara's wish by creating a number of musical pieces composed specifically for Piano andOrchestra. Although Schumann 's genius is most in evidence in his masterful solo Piano compositions and superb lieder, his lively and provocative imagination manifests itself with equal aplomb in the works composed for Piano and Orchestra. The same compelling romantic and lyrical qualities that captivate lovers of Schumann 's Piano music are evident in these compositions. Three of his finest are presented here in full score, including the A Minor Piano Concerto, one of the most popular and frequently performed concertos ever written. All demonstrate his remarkably innovative approach to music, diverting substantially from the classic models of the day, and display his immense creativity as well as his warmth and sensitivity. Included in this collection of Schumann 's compositions for Piano and Orchestra are: Piano Concerto In A minor, Op. 54 (published 1846) Concertstuck, Op. 92 (Introduction and Allegro appassionato; published 1852) Introduction and Allegro, Op. 134 (published 1855) These three works by one of the greatest masters of romanticism will delight musicians, music lovers and students, as well as devotees of Schumann. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES. Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). Par BRUCKNER ANTON. Anton Bruckner (b. 4.9.1824, Ansfelden, d. 11.10.1896, Vienna) didn’t have it easy. Throughout his life, the Austrian composer was plagued by self-doubt. Anton Bruckner came from a simple, rural background. After the death of his father, he was accepted as a choirboy at the monastery of Sankt Florian in 1837. After several years as a school assistant and his own organ and piano studies, he first worked as organist in St. Florian, then from 1855 as cathedral organist in Linz. Introduced to music theory and instrumentation by Simon Sechter and Otto Kitzler, he discovered Richard Wagner as an artistic role model, whom he admired throughout his life and also visited several times in Bayreuth. In 1868 Anton Bruckner became professor of basso continuo, counterpoint and organ at the Vienna Conservatory; ten years later court organist; and in 1891 finally honorary doctor of the University of Vienna. He was considered an important organ virtuoso of his era, but had to wait a long time for recognition as a composer. It was not until Symphony No.7 in E major, composed between 1881 and 1883, with the famous Adagio written under the effects of Wagner's death, that he achieved the recognition he had hoped for, even if he was reluctant to accept it given his inclination towards scepticism and self-criticism. Anton Bruckner was a loner who did not want to follow a particular school or doctrine. He composed numerous sacred vocal works, such as his three masses, the Missa Solemnis in B flat minor (1854), the Te Deum (1881-84) and numerous motets. As a symphonic composer, he wrote a total of nine symphonies and many symphonic studies from 1863 onwards, tending to revise completed versions several times over. Bruckner's orchestral works were long considered unplayable, but in fact were merely exceptionally bold for the tonal language of their time, uniting traditions from Beethoven through Wagner to folk music, on the threshold between late Romanticism and Modernism. Anton Bruckner composed about 40 motets during his lifetime, the earliest a setting of Pange lingua around 1835, and the last, Vexilla regis, in 1892. Thomas Doss has compiled some of these motets in this volume for symphonic wind orchestra. These motets show many characteristics of personal expression, especially Bruckner's colourful harmony in the earlier works, which is in places aligned with Franz Schubert (changes between major and minor; and movements in thirds). Later works are characterised by many components which, in addition to the expanded stature of the movements, include above all a sense of the instrumentation as an outward phenomenon and the harmony as a compositional feature that works more internally. Some aspects of Bruckner's work are the result of his long period of study, which familiarised him not only with the tradition of his craft, but also gave him insights into the 'modernity' of his time in such composers as Wagner, Liszt and Berlioz. From this developed his personal standpoint, which always pursues the connection between the old and the new. / Date parution : 2023-07-31/ Répertoire / Concert Band/Harmonie
