Viola (picc.2.2.2.2. - 4.2.3.1. - timp.perc - hp - str(vc divided)) SKU: BR.EOS-20472-19 No. 2 from the Symphonic Poem My Fatherland. Composed by Bedrich Smetana. Edited by Milan Pospisil. Stapled. Eulenburg Orchestral Series. Today, it is hard to believe that Bedrich Smetana kept receiving rejections when he tried to get his enormously popular Moldau printed. Symphonic poem; Romantic. Part. 10 pages. Duration 13'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EOS 20472-19. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EOS-20472-19). ISBN 9790004184974. 10 x 12.5 inches. What is also amazing is that the first text-critical edition prepared by the Czech Smetana expert Milan Pospisil in 1999, which had entailed an exhaustive evaluation of the sources and been given a full text-critical editorial treatment as a Eulenburg study score, had no resonance of any kind among performers since no performance material had been published. After 15 years, Pospisils edition is finally being completed in a manner suitable for practice: with a conducting score and orchestral parts which will ensure that all future performances are based on a musical text that is as reliable as can be.
The work depicts the course of the river Vltava, beginning with its first two sources, the cold and warm Vltava, and the confluence of the two streams that join to form a single river; then the course of the Vltava through forests and meadows, and through open countryside where a peasant wedding is being celebrated; water-sprites dance by the light of the moon; on the nearby cliffs castles, mansions and ruins rise proudly into the air; the Vltava eddies in the St John's Rapids, then flows in a broad stream as it continues its course towards Prague, where the Vysehrad appears, before the river finally disappears into the distance as it flows majestically into the Elbe.
Vltava (The Moldau), Smetana's best-known and most frequently performed orchestral work, was written between 19 November and 8 December 1874, at a time when Smetana was already completely deaf. The world premiere took place in Prague on 4 April 1875, but the score was not published until 1880. $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

String Quartet (2vl,va,vc) SKU: BR.EB-9243 Full Score. Composed by Christian Mason. Chamber music; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. World premiere of the original version: London, May 10, 2016World premiere of the string orchestra version: Clermont-Ferrand, October 8, 2020. New music (post-2000). Full score. Composed 2016/2020. 40 pages. Duration 19'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9243. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9243). ISBN 9790004185438. 9 x 12 inches. It was the practice of Khoomii (throat singing) - following several workshops with Michael Ormiston - that first attracted me to Tuvan music. Composing this Songbook, the first in a series commissioned by the Ligeti Quartet, I took the chance to reflect on compositional questions around transcription and arrangement of existing music, and frequently found myself asking: where is the boundary between the source material and the new substance? Of course the relationship varies from piece to piece, and moment to moment: sometimes we seem to glimpse the pure source, but most of the time there are differing degrees of distance, working towards or away from it. This new version for string orchestra corresponds closely to the original quartet version, with an additional part for double basses. The traditional Tuvan songs that I have transcribed and recomposed are all known to me from the Ay Kherel CD The Music of Tuva: Throat Singing and Instruments from Central Asia (2004, Arc Music). According to the notes from that CD, this is what the songs are about:1. Dyngylday: If you have come on a horse in blue, it doesn't mean that you are the best. My heart tells me something else: my sweetheart doesn't have such a beautiful horse, but he is my darling. An alternative interpretation from Alash Ensemble (alashensemble.com): The word dyngylday is a nonsense term with no translation. The song makes good-humored fun of somebody for being a good-for-nothing.2. Eki Attar (The Best Steeds): The horse is the basis of our life. It is a magic creature. Even its step is full of music and rhythm. You may not be a horse rider, but when you hear this song you will always remember horses.3. Kuda Yry: This wedding song glorifies the strength of the groom and the beauty of his Horse.4. Ezir-Kara ('Black Eagle'): This was the name of a horse, who became a legend through his remarkable strength and speed. It is not just overtones that abound here: there are galloping rhythms aplenty, and though I am no horse rider I tried to keep the horses galloping in my imagination while composing these pieces.Christian Mason (with quotes from Ay Kherel and Alash Ensemble)

Just like I Shall Love But Thee, this work for soprano and orchestra was originally written for a special occasion: the wedding of one of the composer's children. The lyrics are from the book Respiro Neve by the internationally renowned art photographer Luca Artioli - who possesses poetic talent as well. The first movement is stately and serene: soprano and orchestra initially alternate in an appealing dialogue, but then gradually blend into a whole. The contrasting allegro is much more dynamic and cheerful, and it requires a lot from the soloist, especially towards the elaborate finale, where the high register is featured. The conclusion is festive and radiant, partly thanks to the contribution of the piccolo trumpet! The cantabile nature of the Italian language is perfectly suitable for the voice as an instrument: thus, this work is a wonderful addition to the repertoire of every good orchestrathat wishes to perform with an excellent soloist! $32.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Piano (Piano) SKU: HL.14021076 Composed by John McCabe. Music Sales America. Studies & Exercises. Book [Softcover]. 20 pages. Music Sales #NOV090981. Published by Music Sales (HL.14021076). 8.25x11.75x0.102 inches. English. Epithalamium was commissioned by John Sell as a birthday present for his wife Jane, and is dedicated to her and to Malcolm Binns. It was written during summer 2006 and derived from the two great chords that swing to and fro during the Coronation Scene in Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov. These provide a series of seven notes (heard in the quick flourishes after the opening chords) which provide the basis for the tunes and the harmonies through most of the work. The idea of bell sounds is carried through not only the chords during the piece but also some of the techniques (e.g. the gradually changing repeated patterns, rather like bell-ringing changes, encountered towards the end,or the quiet and distant, uneven tintinnabulation heard at the end of the central slow section). An epithalamium (or epithalamion) is a song or poem in honour of a bride and bridegroom - though technically a wedding piece, it seemed an appropriate title for a work honouring an anniversary, especially one where bell-sounds provided the original inspiration. $19.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

$67.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

| The Women's Order [Score] Deutscher Verlag für Musik
Voice(s) with various inst. SKU: BR.DV-9502 Urtext. Composed by Ge...(+)
Voice(s) with various inst. SKU: BR.DV-9502 Urtext. Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Edited by Wolf Hobohm. Voice; Softcover. Deutscher Verlag. Baroque period. Score. 24 pages. Deutscher Verlag fur Musik #DV 9502. Published by Deutscher Verlag fur Musik (BR.DV-9502). ISBN 9790200490886. 9 x 12 inches. German / English. Cantatas for secular occasions repeatedly stimulated Telemann's sparkling wit and humor. In The Schoolmaster, for example, he depicted a puffed-up cantor lecturing his class; in the Cantata to a Canary Bird, he evoked the painful loss of a little feathered friend; and in the cantata The Women's Order TWV 20:49 he portrayed a young bride who looks forward to her future married life with joyful anticipation. The text, at times drastic and coarse, is set to carefree, joyous music and is guaranteed to provoke chuckles. While some of the arias are restrained and operatic, others are joyful and exuberant. Between them, our interest is secured by the short recitatives and, above all, by the lullaby. Telemann masterfully yet mischievously underlines and elucidates certain textual passages with the music. There are a wealth of surprising little effects which are always a delight. They show that this work was no doubt conceived as a serenade for a wedding ceremony, whereby one can assume that the performers acted out their parts during the performance. $20.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
