Jérôme Duval lived in the late 18th and early 19th century. Despite his very French name, it would appear that he worked for some time in Germany, as his Opus 2, 3 and 4 were all published in Hamburg. Opus 2, which includes this Trio, Op. 2 No. 2 for two flutes and bassoon, can be assigned a tentative publications date of 1810. There are three Trios in Opus 2, Opus 3 consists of three Duos Concertants for flute and violin, and Opus 4 contains three Duos for two violins. The rest of Duval’s output includes three Quartets published in Brussels and a further Hamburg publication for voice and piano with the delightful title: Femmes sensibles écoutent le ramage - which means sensitive women listening to birdsong. The source for this edition of Trio Op. 2 No. 2 is the copy held in the British Library (shelf mark g.693.) The music was typeset by C.M.M. and F.H. Nex and replaces PP563. Among Vivaldi's many flute and recorder concertos, two, both for transverse flute, were known until a few years ago only in incomplete form: RV 431 and 432. Both are written in the comfortable and expressive key of E minor, are transmitted in autograph manuscripts and lack their second movement (RV 432 also lacks its third movement). The seemingly enigmatic instruction “Grave sopra il libro” replacing the second movement has given rise to the most fanciful hypotheses.The discovery in Edinburgh, in 2010, of a concerto for transverse flute in D minor entitled “Il gran Mogol” suddenly shed light on the situation: this was an earlier version of RV 431, now complete with its middle movement, a “Larghetto” that is very possibly identical with the one missing in RV 431. This “Gran Mogol”, which belonged to Robert Kerr, a Scottish nobleman and amateur flautist, was already known by name to scholars on account of its listing in an eighteenth-century catalogue as part of a set of Vivaldi concertos bearing geographical titles: more recently, there has come to light a letter written by Vivaldi three months before his death in which the composer describes this set in detail. It is very likely that RV 431 and RV 432 belonged to this groupof works, the last known collection of its kind in Vivaldi's oeuvre.Critical Edition and Reconstruction by F. M. Sardelli.

Whilst programming a concert of tuba chamber music for the Hannover Tuba Class, works were found for almost every possible combination of instruments, except that there seemed to be none originally written for seven tubas. Spotting this obvious hole in the market, Divertimento was commissioned and first performed in Tubissimo V in June 2012 by the members of the class alongside Professor Jens Bjorn-Larsen, conducted by the composer. This is approximately identical with the order in which they were composed. In this way it became possible for the pairs of sonatas included in the selection to be placed closely after one another. Apart from inevitable minor alterations this edition follows the original text and its markings exactly. This does not apply to the fingering which is entirely an editorial addition. Originally written for Cello, Ralph Sauer's brilliant arrangement of the Pergolesi Sinfonia (Sonata) for Trombone and Piano (or Harpsichord) has become a standard work in the solo repertoire. This new edition which replaces the previous one comes with some notable changes. Below is Mr. Sauer's description.This new edition of the Pergolesi Sinfonia in F is an update of the original version which was first published 40 years ago (!) and is now permanently out of print. Movements one, two, and three are essentially the same. I have corrected a few errors in the keyboard part and also revised some of the notationâ€â€notably, grace notes are now placed correctly. (The original publisher insisted that they should be placed after barlines, causing confusion as to whether they were to be played on the beat or before the beat.)In the last movement, there are now two places where the keyboard takes over the solo line. In addition to providing much needed rest for the trombonist, it gives a change of color and a chance for the keyboard player to be the soloist for a few measures.The original version of the last movement is also included as an appendix for those who would rather perform the original.Ralph Sauer

Édouard Lalo (1823-1892) wrote Concerto for Cello in D minor a few years after the popular Symphonie espagnole in 1876 for Belgian cellist Adolphe Fischer. The following year, Fischer was the soloist for the premiere at the Cirque d'Hiver on December 9, 1877. Influenced by his Symphonie espagnole, this concerto evokes a Spanish atmosphere. At the time of its premiere, there were few serious cello concerti, leading Lalo's Concerto to serve as a catalyst for the cello to be considered a more soloistic instrument.
