The melody lines constantly change timbre as they move through different instrumental combinations. Kaamos also was selected by YLE Radio Finland to represent Finland at the International Rostrum of Composers 2021 in Belgrade, Serbia. Poe was the 2019 Tanglewood Music Patricia Plum Wilde Fellow and represented Finland at Ung Nordisk Musik 2019 in Piteå. African Dances is a continuous work for solo clarinet and wind ensemble consisting of five individual sections. The basis for the piece is the clarinet's construction from the wood of the African blackwood tree and its subsequent development into the instrument we know today. Each movement draws on different aspects of Pan-African music ranging from the styles and forms of the African choral tradition through to the complex cross-rhythms and patterns that characterise so much of the music of Africa.

There is more than one way of getting on to WIND-DRUMMING: obviously it is about the confrontation of two incongruent ways of living a lament on the damage done to the tropical rainforests of the world by modern civilisation. Score-Commissioned by the Michigan State University Alumni Band this three movement work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Karel Husa was the winner of the first Louis Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in 1983.Previously available only in rental we are proud to offer this important work for publication.A note from the composer: Divided into three movements this work is a display of virtuoso passages given to solo instrumentsas well as to the groups of the ensemble. In the Fanfare of the first movement the brass section “concertizes” in groups of four brass quintets (2 trumpets horn trombone and tuba or baritone) spread from left toright in back. The saxophones (S A T B) are placed in front of the brass quintets and the woodwinds occupy the front of the stage with percussion on the left and right side. These groups like the brass quintets play in theconcertante style particularly in the first and last movements. At the same time each movement contains individual solo passages (for example timpani and flute in Movement I – “Drum Ceremony” andEnglish horn and other low woodwinds in Movement II – “Elegy”). The composition of this piece was prompted by the excellence of wind and percussion players today and by the incredible growth of wind ensembles orchestras and bands in the last 25 years. It is intended for their enjoyment.

Written for the New Mexico Winds this quintet is a spiritually uplifting composition animated by the unique instrumental colors of the wind quintet dialogue among the instruments and rhythmic energy. The inspiration for the piece springs from two sources: the syncopated improvisatory aura of jazz and water imagery suggesting the light and movement of the sea. It includes tonal/modal passages and sections employing the diminished (half-step/whole-step) scale.
