Score Parties. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. When Beethoven wrote these three quartets he was 15 years old and a composition student of Christian Gottlob Neefe in Bonn. They reveal a strong Mozartian influence while the brilliant piano writing already gives a sense of the mature Beethoven. He may conceivably have written the works for the wealthy Mastiaux family in Bonn, as he gave piano lessons to one of the daughters and the other three siblings played violin, viola and violoncello.
The sole source for the quartets is the autograph score which contains many overwritings that shed light on the works' original conception and possible alternative readings. Although Beethoven never published the pieces in his lifetime and is not known to have performed them, he reused their melodic and thematic material in later compositions.
Beethoven preserved the autograph score to the end of his days ? perhaps an indication that the quartets meant a great deal to him. The first edition was published by Artaria in Vienna one year after his death, albeit with the pieces in a different order and with many errors in the musical text.
Bärenreiter's scholarly performing edition of the Piano Quartets WoO 36 is edited by the Italian pianist Leonardo Miucci, a specialist in the performance practice of keyboard music from this period. The edition not only presents the correct readings, it also sheds light on the young Beethoven's expressive notation and provides a plausible explanation for the distinction he made between dots and strokes to indicate staccato./ Répertoire / Quatuor pour Piano, Violon, Alto et Violoncelle

Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. Beethoven's 'Romances' are performed all over the world, yet how many conductors, performers and listeners are aware that op. 50 which was incidentally composed before op. 40, comes down to us in an unfinished form' The autograph score contains little to no articulation or dynamics and to the present day the work has existed only in highly over-edited publications. The performer has no way of knowing what was originally intended by the composer.
Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition of opp. 50 and 40 offers the score to op. 50 twice- the first score reflects the state of Beethoven's autograph with editorial markings clearly indicated, the second score has been edited based on other works by Beethoven from that period. This manner of publishing remains true to the sources and at the same time offers musicians a reliable transparent score for performances.
In addition to the Urtext solo part, a second solo part with fingering and bowing by Detlef Mahn is also included in the piano reduction.
- Piano reduction which includes an Urtext solo part as well as an additional solo part with fingering and bowing

Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. BeethovenÂ’s Sonatas for Pianoforte and Violin are now available at a special set price. The set consists of volume I (BA 9014) and volume II (BA 9015).
BeethovenÂ’s ten sonatas for piano and violin, along with those by Mozart, constitute the heart of this classical music genre. Following the lead of MozartÂ’s late sonatas, Beethoven lets the violin part become increasingly independent from the piano part.
Not only does Clive BrownÂ’s scholarly critical edition offer a meticulously edited text but for the first time it presents a list of sources and a Critical Report. Furthermore Brown documents a great number of passages where, by todayÂ’s standards, the notation raises some questions. These passages had previously been overlooked in the autograph but their significance is now clarified.
One example can be found in Beethoven’s “Tempo di Minuetto” from Sonata op. 30 No. 3, where he uses a notational idiosyncracy based on C.P.E. Bach’s “Versuch über die wahre Art das Clavier zu spielen” to denote a rest. This musical symbol, which was included in the first edition published during Beethoven’s lifetime, has not been addressed in any modern edition to date.
In addition, a score through a chord can also not be found in previous modern editions - this denotes an arpeggiated chord./ Recueil / Violon et Piano

Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. Many anecdotes surround String Quartet op. 131: Beethoven is said to have considered it to be his finest quartet and of his late period works, the one dearest to his heart. It is also believed that the composer invested so much of himself in it: his ailing health, the social isolation brought about by his deafness and the suicide attempt of his nephew Karl. In addition it was reported that Franz Schubert asked to hear this piece once more on his deathbed.
Even if these anecdotes are not all true, they reveal what generations of musicians felt they heard in this quartet: BeethovenÂ’s most personal musical idiom and a vulnerable message from the final period of his life.
This new edition by Jonathan Del Mar represents a thorough revision of this highly complex work. Meticulously incorporated are Beethoven’s pencil markings that were previously almost completely ignored./ Répertoire / Quatuor à Cordes

Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to us in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. Since publication Del Mar's edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors performers and critics alike and has become the most widely used publication of theBeethoven Symphonies which can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner David Zinman Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado. Full scores study scores and complete performance material to Beethoven’s Nine Symphonies are available for sale.

Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 In B Flat Op. 60 was composed in 1806 a very productive year for the composer during which he wrote numerous other great works such as the 4th Piano Concerto and theViolin Concerto. Today this work is unjustly overshadowed by its famous neighbours the ?Eroica? and the 5th Symphony although it was one of Beethoven?s best-loved and most often performed works throughout the19th century. The Henle Urtext edition features a preface by the editor Bathia Churgin. This edition is based on the musical text of the Beethoven Complete Edition and continues the series of study editions ofBeethoven symphonies in a convenient format.

Piano Reduction.

C major-In Beethoven?s Triple Concerto a piano trio provides the soloists a first in the history of music. Beethoven?s treatment of the trio is pioneering: he does not apply a typical piano trio setting in contrast to the orchestra but varies his treatment of the solo parts allowing each instrument to play alone with the orchestra (particularly the cello) using two solo instruments together in ever new combinations and finally bringing together all three instruments with the orchestra. Beethoven weaves a complex web the orchestral piano violin and cello voices interplaying and entwining and he produces a true masterpiece.Bärenreiter?s new Urtext edition of Beethoven?sTriple Concerto is a completely fresh revision of this warm and beautiful showpiece. Errors abounded in all previous editions but with the assistance of three newly-discovered sources editor Jonathan Del Mar has cleaned up the text corrected wrong notes and rhythms and (for the first time since 1807) presented the work in a way that a musician of Beethoven?s day might have recognized with all necessary information for directing the piece included in the solo piano part.Piano reduction with separate parts for all three soloistsDraws on three new sourcesCorrection of many errors found in previous editions

Archduke. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. By the time Beethoven completed the ?Archduke? Trio in 1811 he had been working on it for several years. In April 1814 he could finally give the work its première together with Ignaz Schuppanzigh and Joseph Linke, this being Beethoven?s last public appearance as a pianist. He dedicated the piece to his friend, pupil and patron, Archduke Rudolph of Austria. Today it numbers among his most celebrated pieces of chamber music, not least because of its remarkable melodiousness ? a feature typical of Beethoven?s music from these years ? and its spacious formal design. Jonathan Del Mar?s new critical edition of the Trio draws not only on early prints but also on various handwritten sources. / Quatuor A Cordes

Serenade for Flute Violin and Viola in D major op. 25-What occasioned Beethoven to write a composition for such an unusual and yet sonorous group of instruments? Was it perhaps commissioned by a nobleman who played music with such a group and needed music? Whatever thereason behind it Opus 25 is one of Beethoven’s few chamber music works that did not have a Bass instrument. Despite the unusual combination of instruments Beethoven had no difficulty in finding apublisher for his serenade; shortly afterwards he even turned to the work again and revised an arrangement for Flute and Piano (Op. 41) which had been made by a third party. Our revised edition follows the musical text which willsoon be published in volume VI/1 of our new Beethoven Complete Edition.

The E-Flat Major String Quartet Op. 127 is a key work not only in Beethoven’s oeuvre but in the entire history of the genre. The first of the late quartets it 'transfers the formal and symbolicaspects of his two major works for Chorus and Orchestra [the Missa solemnis and the Ninth Symphony] to the more intimate domain of chamber music' (William Kinderman). For years music lovers have been waiting for a new editionbased on the scholarly text from the new Beethoven Gesamtausgabe. The wait has paid off! The highly complex source situation was examined for the first time and thus Beethoven’s 'final intentions' are nowavailable in an urtext edition. The set of parts (HN 740) and the score (HN 9740) both come with a detailed preface and editorial notes.
