'Cette transcription a été faite d’après le manuscrit original « Sei Solo a violino Senza Basso accompagnato », plus communément connues comme les sonates et partitas pour violon seul, ma source étant la version copiée par Anna Magdalena Bach. Les nuances et articulations proposées sont fidèles au manuscrit, autant que possible. Je n’en ai ajouté aucune, afin de donner toute la liberté nécessaire à l’interprétation de cette musique si riche. Les articulations du manuscrit guident les violonistes dans le choix des coups d’archet, à vous de vous en inspirer ou de les modifier à votre guise. Les double-cordes, de même que les accords (joués ‘en arpèges’ par les violonistes), sont reproduites avec des notes en appoggiature ou en arpèges. Volontairement, je n’ai pas retranscrit toutes les notes de manière systématique, pour ne pas surcharger le jeu. Par exemple, vous pourrez explorer comment faire ressortir la seconde voix en dosant les appoggiatures dans le phrasé. Je suis conscient que, pour la plupart des clarinettistes, le fait de jouer sur une partition exempte d’indication de tempi, nuances, articulations, respirations, est quelque peu déroutant. C’est justement, selon moi, toute la richesse de cette version proche de l’original. Vous pourrez explorer cette oeuvre fabuleuse, affiner votre technique de jeu (certains passages sont particulièrement difficiles) et développer votre propre interprétation. With his clarinet quintet, begun in 1915, Reger was remembering his role models Mozart and Brahms, whose works in this genre he particularly admired. This melancholic quintet that is worked through in a strictly motivic way was to be Reger's last opus. Shortly after he had sent it to his publisher, he died of heart attack in May 1916. The quintet was to become his swan song, first performed at a memorial for the composer on 6 November 1916.
