French
composer, Paul Dukas
(1865-1935) is best known
for his orchestral piece,
The Sorcerer's
Apprentice. However, his
catalogue represents many
other significant works
by the composer,
including Alla Gitana for
alto saxophone and piano.
Composed in 1909, Alla
Gitana was originally a
selection of vocal
studies. However, Marcel
Mule's transcription for
alto saxophone has made
this delightful work more
accessible. Dukas
reflects the French
romantic style in Alla
Gitana through uses of
flourishing semiquavers,
lyrical melodies and
chromaticism. For all
aspiring, advanced
saxophonists, Dukas' Alla
Gitana is an exquisite
addition to the
repertoire.

“Cont
emporary Italian-French
composer, Armando Ghidoni
brings together
influences of both Italy
and France in his music.
Also, as an expert on
jazz, the harmonies and
rhythms of the composer's
works reflect a huge
diversity, Carillon for
Saxophone and Piano
accompaniment being no
exception. Ghidoni is
significant within the
contemporary French music
school and his works are
regularly chosen as set
pieces for leading
national and
international
competitions. Carillon
reflects Ghidoni's
mastery of a range of
instruments, adaptable to
Soprano, Alto or Tenor
Saxophones. With a
typical performance
lasting about three
minutes, Carillon is an
exciting addition to the
beginner Saxophone
repertoire.&rdquo.

Unparalleled in scope,
this groundbreaking
series for E_Alto and
B_Tenor offers a single
collection of Repertoire
and supporting materials
written or arranged
specifically for
saxophone. With
Repertoire spanning from
the Baroque to
contemporary eras,
Recordings, Etudes,
Technique, and Orchestral
Excerpts, this
comprehensive series
serves as a balanced and
organized pedagogical
resource from the
beginner to advanced
levels of study. Nine
progressive volumes of
Repertoire expose
students to original
works and arrangements of
diverse styles from W.A.
Mozart to Violet Archer,
with selected works by
notable jazz artist Paul
Desmon (Take Five), and
living composer Phil
Woods. Each level
provides opportunities to
explore Baroque,
Classical, Romantic, and
contemporary works, with
original, unaccompanied
selections from Levels 5
through 8 that use
extended techniques such
as multiphonics, key
clicks, and bisbigliando.
Earlier works pre-dating
the origin of the
saxophone have been
carefully arranged with
consideration of the
unique quality of the
instrument. Exposure to
these works help to
develop musicianship and
an understanding of
tonality, creating
well-rounded and
versatile performers.
Selections written for
both E_Alto and B_Tenor
include piano
accompaniments that
function with both
instruments. Eb

Nocturne
and Sicilienne by Armando
Ghidoni is a piece for
Alto Saxophone and Piano.
Lasting 5 minutes, this
lyrical piece is perfect
for a recital or a
contest and is thoroughly
enjoyable to play. The
level of difficulty is
medium: we would
recommend the piece to
upper-intermediate
players. The Alto
Saxophone can be replaced
by a Soprano or Tenor
Saxophone and the Piano
by a Harp. Armando
Ghidoni is a French
composer with Italian
origins who plays
Saxophone and Flute. He
has been edited by
Alphonse Leduc since
1989..

Born in
Tunisia in 1952,
Christian Lauba has been
a prominent contemporary
composer, winning many
prizes since his
graduation from the
Conservatory of Bordeaux
during the mid-1980s.
Lauba is particularly
noted for his
compositions and teaching
guides for the Saxophone,
such as Nine Studies for
Saxophones. Composed
betweem 1992 and 1994,
Nine Studies for
Saxophones won Lauba the
SACEM prize in
composition. The second
volume, for Soprano and
Tenor Saxophones contains
the fifth, sixth and
seventh studies; 1) Tadj,
2) Gyn, and 3) Vir. Nine
Studies for Saxophones is
very modern in style,
exploiting extended
techniques of the
Saxophone to the maximum.
These include
articulation, modes,
complex rhythms,
ornamentation, tonality,
harmonics, vibrato,
resonance and flutter
tonguing, among other
aspects. With modern
classical music becoming
more and more prominent
within the genre, Lauba's
Nine Studies for
Saxophones is essential
to all saxophonists..

“Hell
o! Mr. Sax seeks to serve
saxophonists in their
progress on the
instrument by addressing,
in detail, pitch, timbre,
duration, articulation,
volume and attacks. These
aspects are not merely
discussed in their basic
form, for elements such
as quarter tones, aeolian
sounds and different
types of sounds which can
be produced on the
instrument are also
explored, among others.
The composer, saxophonist
Jean-Marie Londeix (b.
1932) studied at the
Paris Conservatoire
before embarking on a
successful concert career
taking him all over the
world. His position as
president of the
International Committee
of Saxophone and the fact
that many composers have
written Saxophone works
specially for him have
cemented Londeix's
professionalism and
expertise. With this in
mind, Hello! Mr. Sax is
compiled with much
experience and is
essential to accompany
all Saxophone studies,
from beginner to advanced
level.â€.
