About Suzuki
Method
The
Suzuki Method is based on
the principle that all
children possess ability
and that this ability can
be developed and enhanced
through a nurturing
environment. All children
learn to speak their own
language with relative
ease and if the same
natural learning process
is applied in teaching
other skills, these can
be acquired as
successfully. Suzuki
referred to the process
as the Mother Tongue
Method and to the whole
system of pedagogy as
Talent Education. The
important elements of the
Suzuki approach to
instrumental teaching
include the following:an
early start (aged 3-4 is
normal in most
countries); the
importance of listening
to music; learning to
play before learning to
read; -the involvement of
the parent; a nurturing
and positive learning
environment; a high
standard of teaching by
trained teachers; the
importance of producing a
good sound in a balanced
and natural way; core
repertoire, used by
Suzuki students across
the world; social
interaction with other

In
1726 Johann Sebastian
Bach performed a series
of cantatas by his
Meiningen cousin Johann
Ludwig, then continued
this series with his own
works, but remained
faithful to the textual
models used his cousin: a
Meiningen cycle of texts
by an unknown author from
the early 18th century.
All these texts share the
characteristic of
including two quotations
from the bible: one from
the Old Testament at the
beginning, and another
from the New Testament in
the middle. These
cantatas include Herr,
deine Augen sehen nach
dem Glauben BWV 102. The
opening chorus in several
sections is one of Bach's
masterpieces of choral
composition. The cantata
is also one of those
works on which Bach's
later reputation was
based: performances are
documented from 1776 in
Hamburg and in Berlin by
Zelter's Sing-Akademie
from 1813 onwards. In
1830 it was one of the
very first cantatas by
Bach to appear in print.

hough Warum betrubst du
dich, mein Herz (What is
it troubles thee, my
heart) BWV 138 is based
on the chorale of the
same name, it is
nevertheless not regarded
as one of Bach's chorale
cantatas. In this unusual
composition from Bach's
first cycle of cantatas,
further chorale verses
were not paraphrased in
the freely-composed
sections (as in the
chorale cantatas).
Instead the chorale
occurs in dialog with the
recitatives. It assumes
the role of the
comforter, whilst doubts
are expressed through the
recitatives. This leads
to recitative and chorale
being merged into larger
movements. In the only
aria in the cantata,
trust in God finally
prevails. The cantata
ends with a final chorale
verse; in the interludes
between the lines, Bach
ignites a roaring
virtuoso firework

The
cantata dates from Bach's
time in Weimar. The
instrumental scoring of
four violas and basso
continuo - in the Leipzig
performances enhanced by
two recorders doubling
viola I and II at the
octave - is unique in
Bach's cantata oeuvre. It
lends a dark, luxurious
sound to the four
movements which is gently
illuminated by the
recorders. The work -
with its instrumental
sinfonia, a short secco
recitative and an
extended accompagnato
recitative (both of which
contain arioso inserts),
a short soprano aria and
a simple closing chorale
- makes no great demands
on the performing forces.
Admirers of text
interpretation by means
of instrumental
figuration will be richly

Eugène Bozza (1905-1991)
left us several operas,
ballets, large-scale
symphonic and choral
works, but his worldwide
reputation is derived
mainly from his many
chamber works, written
for various instrumental
formations with a
preference for wind
instruments. Bozza
composed the Aria during
the period of his Grand
Prix de Rome in 1934. A
free adaptation of the
third movement of J. S.
Bach's Pastoral in F
Major for organ (BWV
590), this lyrical piece
demonstrates the
composer's taste and
predilection for wind
instruments.
