This cycle
of five contrasting songs
takes its title from the
poem of Robert Frost. The
various texts in the
piece reference both
inner space and outer
space, both within
oneself and in
interstellar space. The
first song speaks of
places of emptiness and
fear, but also of home.
The second song, with a
text by Sappho,
references the lovely
moon and stars. The third
song, with a text by
Whitman taken from 'On
the Beach at Night
Alone', uses the repeated
word 'all' to present a
sense of the infinite.
The fourth song, with a
text by William Cullen
Bryant, is a fast thrill
ride beginning with the
words, 'Away, away!'. The
cycle ends with a
meditation on the words
'Lux Aeterna'. Pierre
Jalbert.

Sing Pop A
Cappella is a collection
of a cappella
arrangements of fantastic
pop songs old and new, by
renowned teacher, singer
and director Gitika
Partington . Her
arrangements are used by
choirs across the UK, and
she emphasises that being
able to read music is not
necessary. Rewarding and
enjoyable, Book Three
continues her project to
bring people together
through the power of
song. What's great about
Gitika Partington 's Sing
Pop A Cappella series is
how she understands that
to make great music or to
sing a great song, it's
not necessary to be able
to sight-read. It may be
useful, but she has
learned that there are
other ways to communicate
music, namely through ear
training,repetition and
gesture. Her
arrangements, five of
which appear in this
book, have enabled youth
and community choirs to
spring up across the
country, making singing
truly and universally
accessible.
Included in this book are
wonderfully rich a
cappella arrangements of
Ain't No Sunshine
by Bill Withers,
Black Is The Colour Of My
True Love's Hair, Rick
Astley's Never Gonna Give
You Up, Adele's Rolling
In The Deep and a
huge favourite, Sway
(Quien Sera) . Vocal
scores for these
innovative and enjoyable
arrangements are included
in standard notation,
although Partington
recommends learning by
ear as something equally
beneficial. To aid with
this, the accompanying
download card includes
five tracks of audio for
each song. One features a
full performance
demonstration while the
other four each focus on
either soprano, alto,
tenor or bass. The easy
download of these tracks
makes learning efficient
and fun, as you are able
to listen wherever you
are. The great thing
about a cappella singing
is that it can be done
anywhere, with limited
resources, with members
who don't necessarily
have any musical
training. Partington
has created a book
that can be used by a
cappella choirs who love
pop music that sounds
great and will thrill
audiences. Sing Pop A
Cappella is not just a
songbook, though, it also
includes an
extensive.

A unique
edition - all readings at
a glance
This new
edition, in contrast to
the array of Bach Cello
Suite publications
available today, has made
use of all the five
sources which have come
down to us. The basis for
this edition is the most
reliable of the sources,
the manuscript copy in
the hand of Anna
Magdalena Bach. All
variant readings from the
four other sources are
clearly laid out for
performance. Cellists now
have the possibility of
rendering performances
based on just one of the
five sources as well as
the option of combining
the sources in a mixed
version.

The following is a
remembrance by the
composer: Under the
picture in my high school
yearbook it said, Silence
is golden. Lost my
diploma on the way home
from graduation but I
knew what I wanted to be:
A Big Band Pianist.
Started hanging out in
Manhattan on Fifty Second
Street. There were seven
jazz clubs in one block,
between Sixth and
Seventh. Couldnt drink at
seventeen, so just nursed
cokes at a dollar each.
My salary was twenty a
week. Sat by the great
Art Tatum, the incredible
blind pianist. My teacher
accompanied Billie at the
Onyx. Later, Dizzy and
Bird appeared on the
scene. This wonderful
year passed, and I
swapped my piano for a
rifle. The Marines had
plans for me. Where would
I find a piano? Would I
still be able to play?
But, find them I did: in
the States and even on
some Pacific Islands.
Sometimes you could even
recognize what you were
playing. Sometimes, had
to kick someone off the
bench. I told Kim Rich,
the poet, my stories and
somehow she made these
wonderful lyrics with
just a few phone
conversations. Hey! Im

The Requiem
of Gabriel Faure is now
available in two
versions: in the
symphonic version which
was completed in 1900 and
in a version with small
orchestra of 1889. The
symphonic version of
Gabriel Faure's Requiem,
published in 1901, was
the product of a 13-year
compositional process.
Starting from the
original five-movement
form for strings, harp
and organ, the composer
wrote two additional
movements, one after the
other, and expanded the
instrumentation in
various stages for later
performances. The present
reconstruction of a
version with small
orchestra differs from
other such attempts in
that for the first time
it presents the work not
in a mixed version, but
rather in the unified
form from 1889. This is
distinguished from the
final version both in
musical terms, as well as
through the fact that it
forgoes the use of
flutes, clarinets and
bassoons, while employing
only two horns instead of
four. With a critical
Report with information
about the source
situation and the
edition, and containing
the individual readings
(alternative readings,
etc.). Since in 1889 the
Offertoire was still
without the choral
section the present
edition contains the
Offertoire of the final
version as appendix. Now

Text by Christina
Rossetti.
 The
English Romantic poet,
Christina Rossetti
(1830–1894), is
chiefly known for her
mystic religious lyrics.
Her limited number of
love poems are mostly of
an unhappy nature, rather
like objective
expressions of happiness
denied. A certain steely
stoicism within her
caused her to turn away
from love twice in her
lifetime with two
separate men. There is no
evidence of resolute
refusal of love in this
poem, however. Here she
profusely proclaims her
deep love for another.
Wayland Rogers has set
the last five lines of I
Loved You First to music.
The setting is an excerpt
from his song cycle,
I-Thou , which was
commissioned and
premiered by Fourth Coast
Ensemble in Chicago in
2018. About the

Hermann
Schroeder (1904-1984) is
one of the most important
composers of Catholic
church music in the 20th
century. Apart from more
than 100 organ works and
masses, he also wrote
numerous motets. The
present four-part motet
Freu dich, du werte
Christenheit for mixed a
cappella choir (SATB) was
written in 1975. This old
Resurrection song from
the 16th century is based
on a setting by the
Franco-Flemish composer
Johannes des Cleve
(around 1529-1582) which
has been skillfully
transferred by Schroeder
to the modern age with
subtle harmonies. The
tenor voice sings the
cantus firmus and is
embedded in
archaic-seeming sounds
typical of Schroeder by
the other voices. This
three-verse Resurrection
song of about five
minutes is perfect for
church services at
Easter.

This Heinio work
commissioned by the Key

Virgin Mary from
fascinatingly different
perspectives. The first
two of the five songs are
about the Black Madonna.
The third alludes to
Luther and has the hymn
Vom Himmel hoch embedded

based on a 13th century
Stabat mater hymn, and
the last draws on
Orthodox motifs.
