Hungary on 30th April
1870. From the age of
fifteen he received
composition and violin
lessons at the Prague
conservatory from Anton n
Dvorák. In 1905 he
composed The Merry Widow
which became an instant
worldwide success. The
libretto of this operetta
provides a succession of
intimate arias and duets
with festive ensembles.
The Vilja-Lied is one of
these arias. In this
edition for concert band
all the poignant beauty
of the original
remains.

appeared in print for the
first time in William
Sandys Christmas
Carols Ancient and
Modern in 1833,
although it was believed
to have been written many
years earlier. Today,
God Rest Ye
Merry,Gentlemen is
one of the most loved and
popular English Christmas
songs of all time.
Italian composer and
arranger Lorenzo Bocci
fell in love with the
delightful melody and
created an arrangement
that will be perfect at
any Christmas concert
orevent.
Over de
vraag of dit kerstlied
uit de vijftiende of de
achttiende eeuw stamt,
zijn de geleerden het
niet eens. Wel treffen we
het voor het eerst in
gedrukte vorm aan in het
jaar 1833, in het

This
lively, attractive march
originates from one of
the best-known operettas
by Franz Lehár, Die
lustige Witwe (The Merry
Widow), a work that
brought the composer
enormous success. The
operetta features many
lovely arias, and catchy
dances, but also subtle
passages and wonderful
singable tunes. One of
those is Ja, das
Studium der Weiber ist
schwer (‘The
study of women is
difficult’), a
tune incorporated in the
trio of this march.
Lehár obviously had
high expectations for it,
giving it a prominent
place within the
operetta. He also used it
as an effective finale
piece.
Deze
levendige mars komt uit
Die lustige Witwe,
een van de bekendste
