The
cantata Ihr werdet weinen
und heulen [You will weep
and wail] BWV 103 for
Jubilate Sunday is one of
the cantatas composed on
texts by the Leipzig
poetess Christiane
Mariane von Ziegler with
which Bach concluded his
second annual cycle of
cantatas after he had
abandoned the annual
cycle of chorale cantatas
at Easter 1725. A
large-scale choral
movement on Jesus's words
quoted from the Sunday
gospel reading opens the
cantata; the choir is
interrupted by a bass
arioso - the vox Christi.
Both arias are introduced
by a recitative with
arioso conclusion; in
each, exquisite solo
instruments are deployed:
flauto piccolo in the
contralto aria and
trumpet in the tenor
aria. Score and part
available separately -
see item CA.3110300.

Carl Maria
von Weber wrote the
present concerto in 1811
for the Munich bassoon
player Georg Friedrich
Brandt. The date of the
world premiere is not
known; what is
ascertained, however, is
a performance in Prague
on 19 February 1813 by
Brandt, to whom the work
was dedicated.Along with
Mozarts B-flat major
Concerto K. 191 (186e),
Webers bassoon concerto
is one of the most
popular and frequently
played concertos for this
low woodwind instrument.
Weber illustrates the
instruments qualities by
using a different form in
each movement, as we can
see in its primary
themes: the opening
movement is dominated by
a rhythmically striking
theme; cantabile passages
set the tone for the more
lightly scored Adagio;
and in the closing Rondo.
Allegro, the soloist can
demonstrate his
virtuosity from the very
beginning through large
intervallic leaps and
rapid runs.

Hanns Eisler Complete
Edition (HEGA) is to
present to the public all
available compositions,
writings and letters in
an appropriately
scholarly form. It takes
a historico-critical
approach and seeks to
document the history of
the works and writings by
shedding light on their
transformations, thus
identifying the various
versions as witnesses of
evolving aesthetic and
historical positions.
Eislers complete oeuvre
(only a limited number of
his works had penetrated
the publics awareness up
until the 1990s) first
became the object of an
editorial undertaking
when the Eisler -
Gesammelte Werke (EGW)
was founded by Nathan
Notowicz. It was later
placed under the
direction of Manfred
Grabs and Eberhardt
Klemm, and began issuing
its publications in 1968
through the intermediary
of the Deutscher Verlag
fur Musik in Leipzig.
However, only four
volumes of music and five
volumes of writings were
published. The Hanns
Eisler Complete Edition
pursues the work begun at
that time, although it
has had to fundamentally
revise its editorial
principles. In this
respect, the Hanns Eisler

Felix
Mendelssohn Bartholdy
created a standard work
with his final violin
concerto in E minor op.
64 MWV O 14 that is now
firmly established in
today's concert
repertoire. When in 1838
the composer indicated
that he had in mind a
violin concerto [...] in
E minor [...], it was not
only his friend Ferdinand
David, the Gewandhaus
concertmaster for whom it
was intended, who was
euphoric. The whole
civilized violin world
was awaiting this
concerto - and yet it was
another seven years
before the
much-anticipated
composition was
ultimately published by
the Leipzig publishing
house Breitkopf & Hartel
in June 1845, as well as
simultaneously in London
and Milan. The concerto
particularly appeals
through its innovative
treatment of the solo
part, not only because
the solo violin
strikingly opens the
first movement without a
preceding orchestral
tutti, but also because
of its musical dialogue
with the orchestra. The
Leipzig Gewandhaus
premiere on 13 March 1845
with Ferdinand David as
soloist under the
direction of Nils Wilhelm
Gade served - as so
frequently with
Mendelssohn - virtually
as a proofreading
process. After the
composer subsequently
made extensive changes
that also involved David,
the work first appeared
just short of nine months
later. The first edition
documents the composer's
valid final revision,
which is reproduced as
the work's main version
in the present Urtext
edition. The matching
piano reduction includes
not only an unmarked
string part, but also a
part with the established
markings by Igor
Oistrach.

The
cantata Ihr werdet weinen
und heulen [You will weep
and wail] BWV 103 for
Jubilate Sunday is one of
the cantatas composed on
texts by the Leipzig
poetess Christiane
Mariane von Ziegler with
which Bach concluded his
second annual cycle of
cantatas after he had
abandoned the annual
cycle of chorale cantatas
at Easter 1725. A
large-scale choral
movement on Jesus's words
quoted from the Sunday
gospel reading opens the
cantata; the choir is
interrupted by a bass
arioso - the vox Christi.
Both arias are introduced
by a recitative with
arioso conclusion; in
each, exquisite solo
instruments are deployed:
flauto piccolo in the
contralto aria and
trumpet in the tenor
aria. Score and part
