At the heart of this method lies a seamless crossover from soprano to alto recorder whilst maintaining and developing the student?s soprano recorder playing. The first volumes of Fun and Games with the Recorder for soprano recorder are intended for use with children from about six years of age. This method for alto recorder is therefore aimed at children of around 10-12 years. As in the previous books in this series we address the child directly and provide carefully planned and precisely formulated exercises. This method is suitable for use both in group and individual lessons. He was trained as a youth to play the harp, and throughout his life composed a large number of songs. This arrangement of Telemann 's ; Twelve Fantasias for treble Recorder is based on our edition for solo flute BA2971. With the exception of Nos 4, 5 & 12 which were transposed up a fourth for the Recorder, all other fantasias are transposed up a third following a technique often used in the 18th Century. The Fantasias for Flute without bass address themselves less to the virtuoso than to the amateur flutist, who will find everything he wishes in these pieces. The Four Seasons is his best-known work and therefore, Jean-Claude Veilhan 's transcription for Recorder was well-received for making the highly acclaimed work more accessible. Vivaldi 's Four Seasons were originally published in 1725 as a Violin Concerto. Each movement's texture varies depending on which season it depicts. Veilhan 's adaption for Recorder includes articulation, phrasing and performance directions necessary to the instrument. In a contemporary musical language Zahnhausen has managed to bring theinstrument back to what it once was: flauto - the flute! His expressive music never takes the instrument beyond its limits, thus avoiding the trap of many a modern work. There is a perfect balance between form, content andidiomatic writing that places both his music and the recorder where they belong: in the hearts of the listeners!
