Par HAYDN JOSEPH. Only eleven of the over one hundred symphonies by Joseph Haydn are composed in a minor key. Written in the early 1770s, the Symphony Hob.I:52 in C minor bears some similarities to the slightly earlier Symphony in E minor Hob.I:44 (?Mourning?, BA 10988), not only because they both are composed in a minor key but also because they both feature a pair of horns tuned at different pitches. Haydn seems to have experimented with differently tuned horns inspired by an article in Johann Adam Hiller?s journal ?Musikalische Nachrichten und Anmerkungen? of July 1770, which suggested to tune the horns a minor third apart in order to expand the total horn range. While Haydn followed this recommendation just like that in the E-minor symphony, he chose to have the horns tuned a major sixth apart (high C and E-flat) in the outer movements of the C-minor symphony Hob. I:52, resulting in an unusual horn sound within the orchestral texture. In continuation of the collaboration between Bärenreiter and G. Haydn's Symphony Hob. I:89 belongs to a group of symphonies composed between the 'Paris? symphonies (Hob. I:82-87) and their 'London? counterparts (Hob. I: 93-104) - the last ones he wrote before his trips to England in 1791-92 and 1794-95. The Symphony in F major is dated 1787 in the autograph score. In this work Haydn borrowed two movements from an earlier piece, possibly owing to deadline pressure. The second and fourth movements are arrangements of movements 2 and 3 from his Concerto in F major Hob. VIIh:5 for two 'lire organizzate? and orchestra. The fact that he also arranged movements from his other lire concertos suggests that he regarded them as a sort of musical quarry. This at least allowed him to recycle parts of these works after his patron had probably prohibited him from offering them commercially.This edition continues the collaboration with the Henle publishing company regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works, operas and symphonies. Mon Concerto pour orchestre (2007) est une oeuvre de vingt minutes dans laquelle les différentes sections de l'orchestre, ainsi que différents solos et duos du sein de l'orchestre, sont mis en évidence que la musique se déploie. Le travail continue mon intérêt pour les formes à deux mouvement qui a commencé avec mon Concerto pour violoncelle (1991), et plus tard a été développé dans Sortilège (1996) et la Symphonie (Broken Consort) (2004). Dans ces oeuvres, et dans le Concerto pour orchestre, chaque mouvement est le même poids et de l'importance avec le second développement de matériel plus tôt et prendre de nouvelles directions.La forme en deux mouvements du Concerto pour orchestre vient d'une structure symphonique sonate, remodeler la forme en quatre mouvements traditionnels et en combinant cela avec les aspects de la forme sonate, une tradition qui remonte à Liszt, Schoenberg et Sibelius:1er mouvement (i) l'exposition d'idées - dramatique et soudaine (ii) scherzo et développement 1 - résolue2ème mouvement (iii) adagio - calme et tranquille (iv) le développement 2 avec récapitulation - intense et énergiqueLe Concerto pour orchestre a été commandée par le Musikalische Akademie des Nationaltheatre-Orchesters Mannheim avec le soutien de Die Landesbank Baden-Württemberg pour ses deux premières représentations le 31 Mars et 1er Avril 2008 réalisée par Friedemann Layer. These corrections are found in a score which Debussy gave to his wife as a present for her private library in 1913.The new scholarly-critical edition draws on several important sources previously unavailable to musicologists, resulting in an array of new readings and corrections. In addition, there are many changes, a.o. in terms of articulation and dynamics.This new edition includes the famous 'fanfare? in Movement III, clearly marked in small print and brackets. This fanfare was excised in the 1910 reissue of the work, but was reinstated by a number of great conductors who knew Debussy, i.e. Monteux, Münch, Mitropoulos and Ansermet. They felt that the excision was a misunderstanding and that the fanfare was necessary for the structure of the movement. He wrote them for his employer Prince Nikolaus Esterházy who wished to be entertained with new music. The symphonies were tailored for the twenty-five to thirty musicians who were in the prince's court orchestra. Continuing the cooperation between Bärenreiter and the G. Henle publishing company regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works, operas and symphonies, this edition is based on the G. Henle Complete Edition of the 'Works of Joseph Haydn”. In this work, I had wanted completely to submit to the traditional rules of the classical symphony so as to mould my musical expression as if in a furnace and enable it to reach the listener as directly and clearly as possible. The first movement is a kind of German dance, an Allemande, so to speak; the second one a Lied. The third, in strict scherzo-form, is a representation of the sufferings of the German poet Friedrich Hölderlin, in Dr. Autenriedth's mental institution in Tübingen.
