Sports et Divertissements, composé autour de 1913, est un cycle fantaisiste pour piano, composé de plusieurs pièces quasi improvisées relatant avec humour et esprit 'cubiste' diverses préoccupations - disons - assez futiles comme la pêche, le carnaval, le yachting, la balançoire, le bain de mer, colin-maillard ou le flirt. M'étant penché un temps sur la manière d'orchestrer la musique de Satie avec son oeuvre Parade (penché mais pas trop tout de même), j'ai ensuite pensé à Ravel et ses Tableaux d'une exposition, mais aussi au jeune Stravinsky, à Jeux de Debussy où l'on parle également de flirt et de tennis. Puis j'ai retrouvé mes manières d'orchestrer, en évitant par exemple de rendre le Choral inappétissant de Satie aussi inappétissant que le Choral de Parade, le rendant d'avantage magique et touchant: un hommage au caractère de Satie, un homme éminemment affable et bienveillant envers son entourage et les enfants d'Arceuil. En revanche, le traitement de la percussion est respectueusement très satien, s'inspirant des petites textes glissés par le compositeur dans la partition pour piano (j'ai surréalistement opté pour un éoliphone, un vibraslap, un machine à écrire modèle Underwood, des crécelles, une flûte à coulisse, un flexatone, un appeau 'rossignol'...). Donc bruit de moulinet de la canne à pêche, des talons en dansant le Tango, bruissement de la Balançoire, présence menaçante du vent au grand large dans Le Yachting, ou encore sifflet pour Le Réveil de la Mariée... Haydn's Symphony Hob. I:89 belongs to a group of symphonies composed between the 'Paris? symphonies (Hob. I:82-87) and their 'London? counterparts (Hob. I: 93-104) - the last ones he wrote before his trips to England in 1791-92 and 1794-95. The Symphony in F major is dated 1787 in the autograph score. In this work Haydn borrowed two movements from an earlier piece, possibly owing to deadline pressure. The second and fourth movements are arrangements of movements 2 and 3 from his Concerto in F major Hob. VIIh:5 for two 'lire organizzate? and orchestra. The fact that he also arranged movements from his other lire concertos suggests that he regarded them as a sort of musical quarry. This at least allowed him to recycle parts of these works after his patron had probably prohibited him from offering them commercially.This edition continues the collaboration with the Henle publishing company regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works, operas and symphonies.
