This Oliver
Nelson melody was
originally recorded with
a small group. Bob Curnow
took this great tune and
arranged it for big band
in a very hip way! Set in
an easy swing feel, this
chart has quite a bluesy
feel to it while
providing a nice
variation to the standard
blues changes that you
might not expect. There
is solo space for alto
saxophone, trombone and
piano. In this pro
(original) version, you
will find Oliver Nelson's
amazing solo transcribed
and arranged as a trumpet
soli. Very cool and fun
to play! If you like
Oliver Nelson's music,
you'll love this chart!

To
this day, Eugène
Bozza (1905-1991) remains
a prolific composer for
wind instruments, despite
being a violinist
himself. However, his
compositions for other
instrumentations have not
gone amiss, Evening
Star being no
exception. During his
studies at the Paris
Conservatoire, Bozza won
prizes for violin,
conducting and
composition, as well as
the Grand Prix de Rome.
He then conducted the
orchestra of the
Opéra-Comique and
became Head of the
Conservatoire in
Valenciennes, whilst
remaining a prominent
composer. Composed in
1946, Bozza's Evening
Star is based on a
poem of the same name by
Alfred de Musset, a
prominent poet during the
early 1800s. This choral
work is arranged for
female voices; Soprano,
Mezzo Soprano and
Contralto. Containing
much musical variation,
Bozza's Evening
Star is an exciting
addition to the choral
repertoire.

If you are
looking for a modern
arrangement with a
classic feel, Drew
Zaremba has done just
that with Dave Brubeck's
'Cassandra.' Recorded by
the University of North
Texas One O'Clock Lab
Band on their CD Lab
2014, Drew uses theme and
variation to take this
marvelous, swinging
melody into challenging,
extensive and exciting
places. In addition to
featuring the depth of
your ensemble, including
woodwind doubles, lots of
counterpoint, and tempo
and style changes, there
is also solo space for
alto saxophone and
trumpet. This chart is
the real deal!

This
small suite of three solo
pieces was written for
violist Deborah Lander, a
member of the Sydney
Alpha Ensemble, which
recorded Kats-Chernin's
first portrait CD Clocks
for ABC Classics in 1997.
The first piece turns out
to be a
“classicalâ€
ragtime in which
theabsence of the
accompanying piano with
its chords and
alternating basses is
never noticed. The second
piece on the open D
string flows meditatively
in quiet triple time. The
third piece is a solo
variation of Elena
Kats-Chernin's big
“hitâ€, the
beautiful Eliza Aria from
her ballet Wild Swans.
The three interludes can
be included in a
programme individually or
together, in any
order.

sonatinas for harpsichord

three volumes between

Technically fairly

the harpsichord sonatas
