Par HOLLINS ALFRED. Hollins was a composer of organ music but also a virtuoso pianist and organist, despite being blind from birth. The piece is light in style, as its name suggests, but requires a fairly good manual technique and neat pedalling. A three-manual instrument is needed for really effective performance (a choir clarinet is necessary for the solo middle section). This is an attractive piece to include as a contrasting item in a recital, and would certainly be a useful addition to the repertoire of wedding music. Album for organ solo from the composer of the much-recorded 'Miroir?. The album consists of four pieces of between 2½ and 4 minutes' duration respectively. 'Play it cool!? was composed as the mandatory test piece in the 2012 First Breda International Organ Competition, with the Grote Kerk's four-manual Flentrop/Van den Heuvel instrument in mind. As the title suggests, the piece makes great play on syncopated, jazz- and rock-inflected figures. Suitable for advanced standard performers. 'The Messenger on the Hill?, while similarly syncopated and witty, is within easy reach of intermediate standard players. Laid out for two-manual instrument it features an almost continuous oscillating left-hand figure with right-hand melody and a very simple pedal part. 'Rejoice!? is an arrangement of a work for saxophone and organ, made at the request of, and in collaboration with, Thomas Trotter. A duo for contrasting manuals, with a simple, syncopated bass part in the pedals. Suitable for advanced standard performers. 'ÂPassacaglia?, also for two-manual instrument, is composed almost entirely for the white notes. The simple passacaglia theme is repeated throughout on the pedals. Above this, melodic material derived from the theme is played in the right hand against a sustained, chordal left-hand accompaniment. Later on, there is dialogue between the hands, with some optional ornamentation in the right hand. Suitable for intermediate standard performers. / Orgue

Op. 14. Par ELGAR EDWARD. With his Vesper Voluntaries, Edward Elgar composed a wealth of organ pieces for performance in church services and concerts. The wonderful miniatures, composed in song form, two to three minutes in length, can be performed individually or as a complete cycle. They are of moderate difficulty and intended for manuals, but they can optionally also be played with pedal. This Urtext edition is based on the first printed edition edited by Elgar himself, which has been carefully checked through. Für Orgel. Par JOST CHRISTIAN. There is no other work more closely associated with the organ than Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata in D minor. During my compositional preparation, I repeatedly found myself returning to this work. I had a number of different formal models in mind, but felt myself gravitating towards the rhapsodic character of toccata form so that my new composition for organ ultimately became a toccata developing from a pedal point on the fundamental note ’D’. As is appropriate to the volume of a large modern organ, my concept focuses on symphonic tonal layers whose suggestive maelstrom originates from the inner strength of repeating elements and their register- like augmentation, culminating in the unleashing of polyrhythmic progressions.
