Hungarian Folk.
In
2014, Chanticleer
commissioned me to make a
new arrangement of the
Hungarian-Romani folk
song Jarba, Mare Jarba
for their 2014 touring
program. Passed down
orally through the Romani
communities, this
beautiful folk song, with
text in a language called
Beas (beh-osh), speaks of
a deep longing to visit
one's homeland, a place
where the singer can
never return. Chanticleer
consists of twelve men
whose vocal ranges span
from low bass to high
soprano, equivalent to
the range of a mixed
choir of women and men. I
composed slow sections of
original material to
represent the singers'
longing to return home;
these are interspersed
with the folk song's
traditional fast
sections. The
incorporated shouts and
calls in the score are
typically found in the
performance of Central
European folk songs. I
hope you enjoy singing
this new version of
Jarba, Mare Jarba that
contains all of the vigor
and excitement of the
Chanticleer version.
PERFORMANCE NOTES All
spoken sounds (indicated
by x noteheads) should be
performed by individuals.
Feel free to elaborate
with more sounds of your
own in the tradition of
Eastern European folk
music. If the piece is
memorized, feel free to
experiment with clapping
on the off-beats of m. 93
to the end. TEXT

In
America, created by
Joel Lindsey and arranged
by Daniel Semsen, is the
new patriotic celebration
of the freedom we enjoy
as Americans, and the
rich spiritual heritage
that is ours. Being able
to call ourselves
Americans is a privilege
that we must cherish, an
honor we must carry, and
a gift we should never
take for granted. We must
always remember the
sacrifice and service of
all those who gave so
much, real life heroes
who made living in
freedom in this great
land possible—a
nation where we can
celebrate our liberty and
worship our God freely.
Filled with songs of
perseverance, allegiance,
gratitude and commitment,
In America will
light fires of patriotism
and thankfulness in every
listener through songs
with familiar, timeless
lyrics and new,
compelling songs from
Joel Lindsey. From We Are
the Free, a song
dedicated to the brave
soldiers who fight to
make us free, to the
scripture-inspired lyrics
of America on It’s
Knees, and the powerful
medley of Battle Hymn of
the Republic with My
Country, ’Tis of
Thee and America, the
Beautiful, In
America reminds us of
what makes this country
so beautiful and what
keeps us standing…
brave individuals who are
willing to fight for and
protect our freedom, the
sovereignty, glory and
truth of our God, and our
liberty to worship Him
wholeheartedly in this
country that we call
home.

America has
often been referred to as
the great melting pot of
nationalities and
cultures. That is true to
a certain extent.
Americans have not
relinquished the unique
character of their
individual heritage -
they have, however,
acknowledged those things
that unite all of us as a
people, a nation
dedicated to liberty and
justice for all. The one
thing we share that is
most obvious is this
particular area of the
planet Earth, located in
the western hemisphere,
on the North American
Continent. This is a
landmass that is bordered
east and west by the
Atlantic and Pacific
oceans and north and
south by Canada and
Mexico. In addition, we
have two states that are
thousands of miles
removed from these
borders but very much a
part of these states -
the United States of
America. This is a
celebration of our
country - our dwelling
place - our Homeland. Our
Homeland - this is the
place where we pledge the
same flag, protect and
defend the same
Constitution, breathe the
same air, cherish the
future of our children,
and stand constant vigil
to defend the rights that
compelled our founders to
form a more perfect
Union. This is the place
our ancestors fought for,
and also the place where
people still gather the
courage to come and be a
part of the greatest
experiment in freedom in
human history.America - a
land uniquely blessed of
God - a staggering mosaic
of natural beauty and
resources. America -
sweet land of Liberty.
America - residence for
those who dared to dream
the dream, pay the price,
share the costs. . . of
living in the
HOMELAND!

Rehearsal Letter E to the
end: Everyone! Song of
the Sound: Running on the
beach, digging in the
sand, Seaweed in my toes,
bucket in my hand. When
I'm at the shore, way
above the rest, These are
all the things that I
love the best. Skipping
like a stone on the
water, diving deep in the
silvery foam, Swimming
far where the land cannot
hold us, where the
lighthouse calls us home.
Flying free above the
marshes, soaring high
above the sea, Where the
tern and cormorant and
plover call to lands we
cannot see.Come let us go
to the water, let us go
to the singing shore:
Where the gentle breezes
whisper and the mighty
breakers roar. We will
look to the shining
ocean, to the East, where
the new day dawned: We
will sing a song of the
edge of the world and the
waiting sky beyond. -Poem

America -
The sweet land of
liberty: Home to a people
who long to experience
life to the fullest; home
to a people willing to
offer and endure what
freedom demands. In the
aftermath of the
senseless and appalling
terrorist attacks on
Oklahoma City, New York
City and Washington D.C.,
we are once again
reminded that just as the
benefits of freedom touch
all of our lives, so does
the cost. As valiant as
our efforts are to defend
all that we hold dear, we
are now more aware than
ever, that it takes
Divine intervention to
give us the wisdom and
the courage to protect
all that we hold sacred.
This is a nation that
boldly proclaims her
trust in God. We are
sustained in the present
and assured of the future
by the proof of the past.
God has blessed America;
God does watch over His
children; God will lead
His people. We hold to
this truth: the temporal
and vulnerable will soon
give way to the Immortal
and Invincible... There
is a sweet land of
liberty yet to come, a
homeland that will never
be corrupted or
diminished by hatred and
fear. It is a promised
land made possible by a
just and gracious God -
the One true God: the God
of all that was, the God
of all that is, the God
of all that will be.
Great is His love; Great
is His care; Great is His
faithfulness.

Vincent
Novello was a British
composer and Organist who
gave the Novello
publishing company its
first embryonic form.
Here he arranges Rule,
Britannia! for Voice SATB
with Piano accompaniment
to introduce some
contrapuntal interest in
the verse.When 18th
century British composer
Thomas Arne included his
song Rule, Britannia! in
a masque based on the
life of Alfred the Great
that was presented at
Cliveden, the country
home of Frederick, Prince
of Wales, he could not
have imagined that more
than two hundred seventy
years later his ditty
would be known throughout
the British Isles and
beyond. Rule, Britannia!
is widely used in the
Royal Navy and British
Army and is featuredeach
year at the Last Night of
the Proms in the Royal
Albert Hall as a national
sing-along.At the time of
writing, the Dutch
actually 'ruled the
waves,' so this song was
more an exhortation than
a status report. The
lyrics were also a
statement of civil
liberty. Since Cromwell's
time, Britain had had a
standing army which could
be turned against the
native population. A
standing navy, however,
existed solely to protect
the nation from invaders,
protecting a free
populace.

Lillenas is Clydesdale at
his absolute best! A

30 minutes make it the
perfect presentation
piece for any Memorial
Day, Fourth of July, or
Veterans Day celebration.
The ever-popular writer
and arranger David T.
Clydesdale has
incorporated works from
Christian songwriters,
such as the Gaithers,
Deborah Craig Claar, Dave
Clark, and Dan Dean,
along with patriotic
standards such as Woody
Guthrie's beloved This

lyrics and settings for
This Is My Country,
America the Beautiful, My
Country, 'Tis of Thee and
a couple of George M.
Cohan favorites. A
tribute to America's
armed forces involves
both children's and adult
choirs, and is a perfect
way to recognize and
thank the people, both
active and veteran
servicemen and women, who
protect our freedom. The
unforgettable and
powerful Pray Me Home,
from the songwriters Dan
Dean, Don Koch, and Dave
Clark, is the haunting
cry of a soldier on
active duty that will say
in your heart for a long
time to come. Celebrate
America this year with In
God We Still Trust!

“There is
one body and one
Spirit--just as you were
called to one hopewhen
you were called-- one
Lord, one faith, one
baptism; one God
andFather of all, who is
over all and through all
and in all.”
Ephesians4:4-6There are
those who claim that many
paths exist that lead to
whomeverwe believe or
define God to be.
However, we do not define
God - Hedefines us. And
there is only ONE path to
the Father and it
isclearly marked by a
bloodstained cross and an
empty tomb.Those who
claim the Master are
reborn into a bloodline
that does nottrace its
origin to a culture - but
to a cross. . .does not
dependupon what we bring
- but upon what He freely
gives . . .not based
intrying to know about
God - but actually
knowing God.“Yes - we
know that there is only
one God, the Father, who
createdeverything, and we
live for Him. And there
is only one Lord,
JesusChrist, through whom
God made everything and
through whom we havebeen
given life.” 1
Corinthians 8:6“I am
not ashamed of the
gospel, because it is the
power of God forthe
salvation of everyone who
believes . . .” Romans
1:16.
