An American Tapestry is a continuous medley of three American folk songs: the happy-go-lucky The Girl I Left Behind Me, the somber and reflective He's Gone Away, and the foot-stompin' hoedown Ol' Dan Tucker. The setting was originally composed for chamber winds (11 players) and has been completely re-scored by the composer in this new edition for full wind ensemble. The contrasting tempi and sentiments of the tunes, enlivened with unique and colorful harmonies and instrumentation, contribute to make this appealing for wind players from high school to professional. / Harmonie

Arr. Klaas Van Der Woude. Since his first successes in the 1990s the amiable popular singer Frans Bauer has grown into a megastar in the Netherlands. In Germany, too, he has a great number of fans. Although he is derided by many because of his schmalzy style, Frans Bauer sells CDs galore, attracts full houses everywhere and can be viewed in his own reality soap on television. In 2004 he was even awarded a Gouden Harp (Gold Harp), which is the most important prize within Dutch music. It is presented to artists and composers who have promoted Dutch light music in their own unique way during their career. The cheery singalong Heb je even voor mij (Got a Minute for Me) is a great top hit: a winner in everypub and at parties. Un trailer per Cajkovskij (en italien : 'une bande-annonce pour Tchaikovsky') est une pièce ludique en forme d'hommage au grand compositeur russe, commandée par l'Orchestre symphonique de Turin. Cette oeuvre réjoint plusieurs de mes oeuvres orchestrales comme Lumen, Lumen II, Ouverture en forme d'étoiles, ma Symphonie #2 'Moz'Art' ou le petit Happy birthday qu'avait créé Felicity Lott et l'Ensemble Orchestral de Paris au théâtre des Champs-Elysées à Paris en 2003. La formation instrumentale, déjà fixée, du concert m'a permis étrangement (mais avec grande joie !) d'utiliser un célesta, un cor, tous les bois, les cordes. L'oeuvre fait des allusions thématiques (mais pas de citations textuelles) à certaines oeuvres majeures de ce compositeur, comme Casse-Noisette ou bien ces dernières symphonies que j'affectionne particulièrement. Triple Set was commissioned by the Flute/Clarinet Duos Consortium, an organization of 17 groups which will give the premiere performances of the work. I’ve always been fascinated by the flute and clarinet, and when I was approached by my colleagues at Rice (Leone Buyse and Michael Webster) to write a piece for flute, clarinet and piano (I’m a pianist myself), for the Flute/Clarinet Duos Consortium, I was happy to oblige. Both of my sons also play the clarinet, so many of these sounds are around me all the time. The piece is in three contrasting movements. The first movement, Driving, marked “With great energy”, is rhythmically propelled forward by the piano’s muted strings and the flute and clarinet playing at first in rhythmic unison, then each taking a turn at solos while the other participates in the accompanimental syncopations. The second movement, Still, is marked “Timeless” and slowly unfolds its melodic and harmonic ideas. The third movement, Relentless, is a kind of 6/8 scherzo, which vigorously and relentlessly propels itself forward to the end, with just two minor interruptions of quasi-cadenza like passages for flute and clarinet duo. - Pierre Jalbert/ Répertoire / Flûte Traversière, Clarinette et Piano

A Klezmer Wedding is a set of four dances, newly-composed but based on traditional models.The Doina is an expressive chant for three successive soloists - it twists and turns with the wailing lament of a shepherd´s pipe. Next follows the Hora, a slow Rumanian dance in three with a mood that reflects the wedding´s solemn vows. A Chusidl, with a moderate speed and bouncy rhythms, gets the party to the dance floor.
