Concerto in F major for 3 Violins, Strings and Basso continuo TWV 53:F1 Tafelmusik II If Telemann was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the greatest of all composers, his star, faced with the overwhelming presence of Bach and Handel, paled in the course of the 19th century to the verge of contempt. This assessment changed radically during the course of the last century. Through the systematic exploration of his music, Telemann, once considered purely an instrumental composer, has emerged into a highly cultivated, culturally well-connected and enormously versatile artistic personality who left an indelible mark on the musical life of his time. Again andagain we discover an individual approach in his works that seems to abandon the musical conventions of his day, both large and small. The Tafelmusik (Musique de Table) is a collection of chamber pieces for various ensembles arranged into 3 parts and is perhaps Telemann's most celebrated collection of music. JACOB) Fanfare [Conducteur] - Intermédiaire/avancé De Haske Publications
Par DE HAAN JACOB. This musical fantasy depicts the history of the Dutch fortifi...(+)
Par DE HAAN JACOB. This musical fantasy depicts the history of the Dutch fortified town of Elburg. The work begins with an atmospheric medieval picture of the Convent of St Agnes, the nunnery that was built in the first half of the 15th century. We hear the sound of the convent bells together with an upward motif, which will reappear later in the work. Next, the rest of Elburg is featured, including the fortress - from which the bells of the Sint-Nicolaaskerk (Saint Nicholas Church) are ringing. Then, cheerful sounds can be heard at the Vischpoort (Fish Gate), where a dancing group is performing a 16th century French folk dance (a branle des chevaux). We also hear old wagons rumbling over the town’scobble stones. Trade made this Hanseatic town a lively place. The repetitive upward motif first heard in the introduction now develops into a more distinct feature, reflecting the mercantile spirit of the town residents. Then follows the slow middle movement, in which the clock has been turned back to the time when Elburg was still lying on the Zuiderzee (which was a bay of the North Sea), and was struggling with floods. After the second St. Marcellus Flood (1362) and the water flood of 1367 it was decided that the town would be relocated. We now hear the theme of branle des chevaux in a minor key, followed by a death bell sounding in remembrance of the drowned citizens of the former town. Back in our own time, a slow, expressive theme in Baroque style mirrors Elburg’s tranquil places, such as the Feithenhof (Feithen Court) and the Weduwenhofje (Widow Court). Then the bustle returns with motifs from the introduction, followed by an attractive theme in which present-day Elburg is portrayed with its many tourists. Now, suddenly, there is an echo from the past, depicting the dramatic floods and wars that once plagued the town. This leads to the grand closing theme: branle des chevaux is heard for a final time from the perspective of the historic town centre. / Niveau : 4 / Pièce de concert / Répertoire / Fanfare

Meditation on 'O come, O come, Immanuel'. The Advent hymn we all know today as O Come, O Come, Immanuel was arranged in its modern form by Thomas Helmore and published in Hymnal Noted in 1856. Both the words and melody, however, predate this version by centuries. The words are based on a 9th century antiphon and the tune, Veni Immanuel, is taken from a 15th century processional of French Franciscan nuns, part of the setting for the funeral hymn Libera Me. This arrangement aims to expand on the power and mystery of the original tune and will be most effective if the solo cornet at the start and end of the piece can be placed away from the band, maybe at the back of the auditorium. / Niveau : 2.5 / Musique religieuse / Recueil / Brass Band

Par HESKETH KENNETH. In Danceries , by Kenneth Hesketh, the melodies themselves are a mixture of old and new. Where the old occurs it has been adapted in mood and composition and is often interspersed with completely new material. The contemporary harmonies and rhythms bring a breath of new into these themes and add drama to the suite. The first movement, Lull Me Beyond Thee , is gentle and lilting, almost a barcarole, this movement is very much a reverie. The original tune had the name Poor Robin's Maggot , a rather disconcerting title. Maggot, however, in seventeenth-century parlance meant whim or fancy. The second, Catching of Quails , is a colourful, buoyant scherzo on an original melody. The thematic material is shuttled around the band to contrast with full-blooded tuttis. The last few bars fade to almost nothing, before a final surprise! My Lady's Rest is a tender pavane, also on an original melody, with Moorish leanings. Beautiful solo passages, expressive contrapuntal writing and warm tuttis provide an opportunity to show off the most lyrical of playing. The final movement, Quodling's Delight is a clever combination of the 17th century melody, Goddesses , with an original contrasting melody, creating a rousing and exuberant finale to the work. / Niveau : Assez Facile / Répertoire / Brass Band

Par TURRIN JOSEPH. This exceptionally unique work by Joseph Turrin is composed in memory of Howard Hanson, one of the 20th century’s greatest proponents of American music. While decidedly modern in sound, the mood of this piece adheres to Hanson’s own belief in the value of “warm blooded music” rather than the pursuit of coldly abstract, purely cerebral music. Hanson’s influence on 20th century music and the post-Romantic style is clearly evident in SERENADE ROMANTIC. If you’ve ever wished for something genuinely different for your higher level group to explore you owe it to yourself to check out this remarkable piece. / Niveau : 5 / Musique pour célébration / Répertoire / Concert Band

Par HERDZIN KRZYSZTOF. Chopiniana con delizia is a very interesting music project. Sometimes it is difficult to draw the line where Chopin ends and Herdzin begins. The artist engages in a kind of a dialogue with the 19th-century creator. By using Chopinesque motifs, by ‘filtering’ phrases of the genius composer through his sensitivity and experience of a 21st-century artist, Herdzin has created a work that provokes me to pose the following question: what kind of music would Fryderyk Chopin write if he were to live in the present day? Vol. 10/II - Edizione critica a cura di Alessandro Borin-David Bryant (testi in italiano e inglese). Par GABRIELI ANDREA. Vol. 10 of the Complete Works, articulated in two parts, contains the music found exclusively in manuscript and printed anthologies compiled prior to the great sixteenth-century Venetian composer?s death in 1585. Broadly speaking, Gabrieli?s contributions to collective anthologies fall into the following categories: 1) celebratory compositions, in several cases conceived as individual contributions to madrigal cycles by various composers in honour of more or less prominent Venetian or other personalities; 2) compositions originating in social and cultural circles close to Gabrieli; products of the composer?s habitual interaction with patrons, poets and musicians in mid sixteenth-century Venice, these compositions are published in anthologies containing similar works by other composers in Gabrieli?s milieu; 3) individual madrigals inserted in generic multi-author anthologies. Vol. 10/I features eight compositions on texts in Latin, Italian and ?stradioto? dialect (a linguistic concoction in which words of Greek origin appear against a background of simulated Venetian dialect). These include Gabrieli?s contribution to a Corona of nine sonnets by various composers on the death of Annibale Caro, the celebrated man-of-letters whose production comprises a highly successful Italian translation of Virgil?s Aeneid. The entire Corona is edited in the Complete Works. Gabrieli?s presence in multi-author anthologies follows a predictable pattern. The young composer?s earliest madrigals appear in editions of music by well-established authors (Vincenzo Ruffo, Cipriano de Rore) or collective anthologies edited by enterprising local musicians or other cultural figures (Giulio Bonagiunta, a singer at St Mark?s; the Venetian poet, actor and musician Antonio Molino). These give way to anthologies of music by highly celebrated composers, to which Gabrieli, his reputation now secure, accedes by invitation; and, beginning in 1583, non-Italian publications (increasingly common in the years following the composer?s death). / Date parution : 2022-04-26/ Recueil / Orchestre

Ed. Critica Di Alessandro Borin - Ril. Brochure. Par VIVALDI ANTONIO. La Gloria e Imeneo, RV 687, belongs to a group of so-called ‘French serenatas’ by Antonio Vivaldi, namely a series of works composed and performed between the mid-1710s and mid- 1720s of the eighteenth century in celebration of importantrecurrent and non-recurrent events relating to the Kingdom of France and its diplomatic representatives resident in Italy. This serenata was indeed commissioned from Vivaldi by the French ambassador in Venice, Jacques-Vincent Languet, Count of Gergy, on the occasion of the wedding of Louis XV to the Polish princess Maria Leszczyska, and was performed during a festa that took place in the ambassador’s garden on the evening of 12 September 1725. La Gloria E Imeneo, RV 687, belongs to a group of so-called ‘ French serenatas' by Antonio Vivaldi, namely a series of works composed and performed between the mid-1710s and mid-1720s of the eighteenth century in celebration of important recurrent and non-recurrent events relating to the Kingdom of France and its diplomatic representatives resident in Italy. This serenata was indeed commissioned from Vivaldi by the French ambassador in Venice, Jacques-Vincent Languet, Count of Gergy, on the occasion of the wedding of Louis XV to the Polish princess Maria Leszczyska, and was performed during a festa that took place inthe ambassador's garden on the evening of 12 September 1725. This assessment changed radically during the course of the last century. Through the systematic exploration of his music, Telemann, once considered purely an instrumental composer, has emerged into a highly cultivated, culturally well-connected and enormously versatile artistic personality who left an indelible mark on the musical life of his time. Again and again we discover an individual approach in his works that seems to abandon the musical conventions of his day, both large and small. The Tafelmusik (Musique de Table) is a collection of chamber pieces for various ensembles arranged into 3 parts and is perhaps Telemann's most celebrated collection of music. Per Clarinetto, Violoncello E Pianoforte. Par CALLIGARIS SERGIO. Sergio Calligar...(+)
Per Clarinetto, Violoncello E Pianoforte. Par CALLIGARIS SERGIO. Sergio Calligaris was born in Rosario (1941), Argentina. He is one of the last musicians to incarnate the traditional 19th century figure of pianist, teacher and composer, inaugurated at the beginning of the 19th century by Muzio Clementi and carriedon after that by a sequence of famous names that the history of music has handed down to us. As a pianist, he began to give public performances at the age of 13, making his debut in his home town Rosario. Following this success, he embarked upon an extremely busy career as a soloist, giving numerous recitals in Buenos Aires and other citiesin Argentina. He continued to take advanced lessons with eminent exponents of the most prestigious international piano schools. In 1974 he became an Italian citizen and settled in Rome, teaching piano as principal instrument at the S. Pietro a Majella StateConservatory in Naples, the Luisa DAnnunzio Conservatory in Pescara and the Alfredo Casella Conservatory in Aquila. As a composer, he began - at just 9 years of age - to study in the rigorous school of Paul Hindemith, under the guidance of Father Luis Machado, from whom he inherited a love of counterpoint and a strong taste for harmony. He took a diploma incomposition, counterpoint and fugue at the age of 16 at the Amigos del Arte Society in Rosario, going on in 1964 to do an advanced course in 12-tone counterpoint at the Cleveland Institute of Music. The catalogue of his compositions, which has nowreached Op. 55, encompasses a huge range of instrumental/vocal chamber music and symphonic works: a vast and articulated catalogue, in which Sergio Calligaris’s composition expresses its inspiration through the dramatic development of a dialecticalcontrast between the two natures of the composer’s personality - the elegiac and the dithyrambic - which confront and interact with each other giving rise to artistic outcomes of a deeply moving nature. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Répertoire / Clarinette, Violoncelle et Piano

for four male voices. Par BRYARS GAVIN. Glorious Hill may be performed by a male choir.
Text by Pico della Mirandola (1463-1497) from De Hominis Dignitate.
Glorious Hill was commissioned by the Hilliard Ensemble and first performed by them at its summer Festival of Voices in Lewes, Sussex, in August 1988. It was the first piece I wrote for the ensemble and I focused on the singers' unique ability to move with ease from early music to tonal music of the present day. There were techniques which I asked for which I hardly needed to notate - the staggered breathing of the two tenors to supply a continuous unbroken held note for example - and the piece moves between passages for solo voices and sections of highly chromatic homophony, almost as if the music were switching between the 12th century of Perotin and the 16th century of Gesualdo. Each of the four voices is given its own solo passage, sometimes accompanied, sometimes quietly supported by the other voices.
The title, Glorious Hill comes from the name of the small-town Mississippi setting of Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke. I wrote the music for the 1987 production of this play at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre, the first time I had written any incidental music for the stage. Williams makes very specific demands in terms of music and there is one particularly powerful scene, the penultimate one, throughout which music and atmospheric sound effects are continuous. The principle character Alma argues passionately about the vital importance of human choice with the man to whom she has, too late, admitted her love. I watched this section every night throughout the 4 week run of the play watching the different ways in which the actress, Frances Barber, played the scene. There is a powerful emotional and philosophical connection between the imagery of this scene and a passage from the Renaissance philosopher Pico della Mirandola's Oration on the Dignity of Man which forms the text of Glorious Hill. This passage has been described as one of the few passages in Renaissance philosophy to treat human freedom in a modern way. The text, which is sung in Latin, is addressed by God to Adam before the fall from grace.
