This ?Suite' is not one of my 'epic' instrumental concertos such as the concertos for cello, violin or oboe, but a substantially smaller-structured series of dance forms arranged into a suite. Sunken worlds suddenly emerge here, only to reach the surface, hover in dangerously distorted fashion and then sink back to the bottom.Almost every individual movement allots the solo flute a specific tonal colouring and an instrumental group from the orchestra: in the opening Allemande, the flutes of the orchestra (including alto and bass flute and later also piccolo to include the entire flute family) - the string section in the Sarabande - in both chorales (extremely muted in the first and brutalist in the second), the brass etc. - and it is only in the concluding Badinerie that all orchestral groups are combined, although they are terraced in the Baroque style, one following another, seldom all playing simultaneously.This permits the flute to remain the provider of all impulses - it attaches itself to the wide variety of instrumental colours, becomes suffused with these colours and thereby shines in different lights - acerbic, pale and radiant. This first performance marks the conclusion of my two-year residence with the Cleveland Orchestra. The immense versatility of this fine body of sound (which is indeed treated as such with the sum of its parts) and the exciting dark timbre of its principal flautist Joshua Smith have to a great extent determined the form and tonal character of my Flûte en suite. Présentation Jean-Marie Leclair est le plus éminent représentant de l'école française de violon du XVIIIe siècle. Cette nouvelle publication en partition des Editions du Centre de musique baroque de Versailles propose à tous les violonistes, mais aussi aux ensembles, spécialistes ou non de ce répertoire, de jouer ses concertos, véritables manifestes d'une virtuosité instrumentale au service du goût musical français. Jean-Marie Leclair naît à Lyon en 1697. A partir de 1722 il effectue plusieurs voyages dans le Piémont, où il sera en particulier l'élève de Somis qui lui transmet l'enseignement du fameux Corelli. Cette rencontre, déterminante pour le compositeur, lui fait embrasser une carrière de soliste. Sa virtuosité, toujours au service de la musique, bouleverse entièrement la pratique violonistique en France, créant une véritable école. De 1728, où démarre sa carrière au Concert Spirituel à Paris, jusqu'à son assassina en 1764, il n'aura de cesse d'écrire et de jouer, que ce soit pour son instrument ou dans des 'uvres ambitieuses. Ce concerto pour violon et orchestre op. VII n°5, probablement des années 1737, est en la mineur. En trois mouvements (Allegro, Largo, Allegro assai), il dure environ un quart d'heure. A la façon d'un concerto grosso, un 'Violino concertino' alterne la direction de l'orchestre et de larges passages solo. L'orchestre est constitué de deux parties de violons, une partie d'alto, une partie de basse et d'une basse continue. En 2008, Philip Sparke publiait ses Super Solos, troisième et dernier volume d’une collection de solos instrumentaux (pour Flûte, Clarinette, Saxophone Alto, Trompette, Cor, Trombone et Euphonium), plébiscités par les jeunes musiciens du monde entier, et plus particulièrement par le jeune flûtiste allemand, Meinhard Drescher. À la demande du père de ce dernier, Philip Sparke a extrait trois pièces du recueil - Little Overture - Berceuse - Moto Perpetuo - pour en faire un « mini-concerto » pour Flûte traversière et Orchestre d’Harmonie. Meinhard Drescher reçut ce concerto comme cadeau pour son seizième anniversaire. Il en assura la création le 18 octobre2009. Each piece in The Seasons depicts a different month of the year in Russia. The original publication of September: The Hunt included an epigraph at the start of the piece-a small poem by Alexander Pushkin. This energetic arrangement for symphonic band by Nathan Jones opens with an octave fanfare between the winds and brass. Tchaikovsky\'s colorful harmony speaks here, with passing chromaticism adding color to the music. The fanfare theme is transformed in the quiet central section, still shifting to the minor mode with short solo passages for flute, bassoon, trumpet, xylophone and oboe (cued in flutes). The segue back into the opening fanfare is clever, with the notes leading through several keys before concluding in the major with a short reprise of the initial theme. / Date parution : 2022-09-20/ Répertoire / Concert Band

Par RICKER RAMON. 'Suspended Animation' is a contemporary straight-eighth feel with sections that can be opened up for any player to solo. The entire composition is built on only two suspended chords, and is written in a manner that makes it easy for young bands to quickly get into the piece. With only two chords to worry about, much of the anxiety of wrong notes is eliminated and the student can immediately concentrate on making music. Professionals will also have fun with the chart when it is opened up for extended solos. The piece was inspired by an improvised solo and chord progression that is found in Volume 1 of the Ramon Ricker Improvisation Series. Beginning improvisers will find the brief Notes on the Improvised Sections helpful. But, a more thorough discussion can be found in Volume 1 of the Ramon Ricker Improvisation Series.
