The 'Concerto da Camera” (1941) is the last of his works inspired by the Baroque concerto grosso. The 'Rhapsody-Concerto”, composed eleven years later (1952), was the first work of his so-called 'fantasia period”, marked by a more open sense of form and an expansion of tonality. The edition of the 'Concerto da Camera' shows, for the first time, the extend of Martinu's modifications to the work since its composition and publication, particularly on the solo violin part. The edition of the 'Rhapsody-Concerto” takes into account, among others, the discovery of previously unknown contemporary performance materials. Dans cette pièce, Franco Cesarini a voulu utiliser quelques danses typiques de la tradition populaire grecque. Il a sélectionné trois chansons folkloriques traditionnelles, les adaptant librement. Le premier mouvement est un kalamatianos, une danse festive qui a des racines remontant à l'antiquité, dans les premiers écrits d'Homère. Elle est considérée comme la danse nationale grecque. Sa caractéristique la plus distinctive est le rythme irrégulier en 7/8. Selon l'occasion et l'habileté des danseurs, certains pas peuvent être exécutés en sautant et en s'accroupissant. Le deuxième mouvement représente un zeibekiko. Contrairement à la plupart des danses traditionnelles grecques, le zeibekiko n'est pas une danse exécutée en groupe ; il n'y a pas d'étapes particulières à suivre, seulement certaines figures. Le troisième mouvement, un hasapiko, est une danse traditionnelle avec des racines à Constantinople. Le hasapiko, qui a inspiré le sirtaki, est une danse qui passe d'un rythme lent à un rythme plus rapide. Brauner and published in 2008 as part of the series “Works of Gioachino Rossini”. But who needs a new critical edition of “ The Barber Of Seville ”? The opera has been performed in theatres throughout the world since 1816 and has never been absent from the repertoire. There are two reasons for a critical new edition: firstly, none of the early editions satisfy modern demands for a scholarly-critical edition. Secondly, there is a wealth of previously unpublished material relating to this opera, of great interest to both scholars andperformers. Thus the famous overture, which Rossini had already used in his earlier opera “Aureliano in Palmira”, differs noticeably from earlier editions in many places. The new edition enables performers to perform the overture either in its original scoring (as in “Aureliano in Palmira”), which includes two Flutes, two Oboes and Timpani, or in the scoring for the subsequent opera “ The Barber Of Seville ” (with just one flute, one oboe and no timpani).
