The oratorio The Creation represents not only a crucial point in Joseph Haydn's compositional output but at the same time marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the oratorio. At the turn of the 19th century Haydn broke with the traditional dominance of the arias giving the chorus a distinctly greater significance. This opened the way for a new kind of choral oratorio which became one of the standard features of developing bourgeois concert life. The text translated from the English original by Baron van Swieten Prefect of the imperial court library in Vienna combines prose texts of the creation story inLuther's translation of the Bible with complementary excerpts from John Milton's Paradise Lost.- New edition based on the Urtext from the Complete Edition of “Joseph Haydn’s Works” published by G. Henle Verlag.- Vocal score with a contemporary Piano reduction by A. E. Müller revised by A. Köhs.- Excellent presentation on the page.

Probably composed in 1690 the Messe de Minuït pour Noël H 9 is perhaps Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s best-known composition after the Te Deum H 146. The special appeal of this “Mass for the Midnight Service on Christmas Eve” lies in its use of no fewer than ten traditional French carols while impressively revealing Charpentier’s mastery of the concertante style. The eight solo vocalists (SSAATTBB) can easily be taken from the chorus. They are divided into three groups – one group of two sopranos and two groups each comprising alto tenor and bass – which interact with the chorusand instruments. This new edition represents the current state of scholarship and offers a completely revised Urtext of Charpentier’s masterpiece.- Urtext based on the latest scholarly research- Straightforward and easy-to-play keyboard reduction- Duration: approx. 25 minutes- Full score & parts (BA7592) and vocal score (BA7592-90) available for sale

\'A Cry against Facism\'. Par DE MEIJ JOHAN. The Painted Bird, the controversial novel by Jerzy Kosinski (1933-1991), tells the story of a Jewish boy during World War II. For his safety, the child was sent to the Polish countryside by his parents. The title refers to a barbaric tradition among Polish farmers. The wings of a captured bird were painted in bright colors, after which the animal was released. Almost immediately, the bird was attacked and pecked to death by its peers. The boy underwent the same fate. Wherever he wandered, the local rural people cruelly mistreated him because of his distinctly different appearance. However, he survives the horrors and is reunited with his parents after the war. To escape the yoke of the Soviet occupation in his country, the Polish-Jewish Kosinski emigrated with counterfeit papers to the United States in 1957, where he became an American citizen in 1965. His landmark novel The Painted Bird was translated into thirty languages and sold millions of copies. Plagued by illness and accusations of betraying his country and plagiarism the writer ended his life in 1991. / Date parution : 2022-07-30/ Répertoire / Concert Band/Harmonie

Par DOBSON SIMON. Torsion was commissioned by the Leyland Band and first performed on 23 January 2010 at the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass, Manchester, by Leyland Band conducted by Jason Katsikaris. This colourful and dynamic work is the most personal and ambitious that Simon Dobson composed during his residency with the Lancashire brass band. The dictionary defines torsion as the state of being twisted and the composer interprets this as the imagined dis-torsions and con-torsions of Time, Light and Sound in three contrasting movements. Simon Dobson fuses the traditional brass band sound with drive and energy of pop and funk jazz with optional digitally distorted'echoes' providing added aural confusion at the points of climax. Although composed as a substantial concert work, Torsion would also make a challenging test-piece for contesting brass bands in the elite divisions./ Répertoire / Brass Band

Par VAN DER ROOST JAN. This major concert work cosists o five movements. 1st movement: La Laguna del ShimbeSituated high up in the Andes mountains in Northern Peru are the Huaringas, a group of lagoons in isolated and mysterious surroundings. The water has healing powersand for centuries traditional healers have settled there in small villages. From far the sick come to the Huaringas to be treated in nightly rituals, in which the hallucinating juice of the San Pedro cactus gives the prophet a look inside hispatient. The biggest lagoon is the “Laguna del Shimbe”, one of the countless wells of the immense Amazon stream. 2nd movement: Los AguarunasFurther downstream in Northern Peru we come across the rain tribe of Los Aguarunas. It’s a proud, beautiful andindependent race, which has never succumbed to domination, not even from the Incas. They live from everything the forest has to offer: fish, fruit, plants, . . . . They also grow some crops and live as semi-nomads. They take their fate into their ownhands and after having made contact with modern civilisation, they have integrated new elements into their lives without betraying their own ways. 3rd movement: MekaronMekaron is an Indian word meaning “picture”, “soul”, “essence”. The Indians are theorigina inhabitants of the Amazon region. They either live in one place as a group or move around a large region. They all have their own political system, their own language and an intense social life. At the same time they are master of music andmedicine. “Everywhere the white man goes, he leaves a wilderness behind him”, wrote the North American Indian leader Seatl in 1885. As a result of these contacts with the whites, the disruption of most Indian societies began. (In this century alone, 80 tribes have vanished completely). 4th movement: KêêtuajêThis is the name of the initiating ceremony of the Krahô tribe in the Brazilian state of Goias, in which young boys and girls enter adult life. They are cleansed with water, painted with redpaint and covered with feathers, after which the ritual dance holds the entire tribe spell-bound. 5th movement: Paulino FaiakanIn 1988 the Indian chiefs Faiakan and Raoni Kaiapo came to Europe to protest against the building of the Altamira dam inBrazil. As a result of the dam the Indians would be driven from their traditional land and enormous artificial would be created. The project was supported financially by, amongst others, the European Community. In February 1989 the Indian tribesaround Altamira held a protest march for the first time in their history together. Amongst other things they paid tribute tot Chico Mendez, who, murdered in 1988, was the leader of the rubber syndicate and a fierce opponent of the destruction of theBrazilian rain forest. Brazilian and world opinion was awakened. The building of the dam was -albeit temporarily - stopped. / Niveau : 6 / Pièce de concert / Répertoire / Fanfare

Frank Bridge (1879 – 1941) was one of the leading English composers of his time. In October 1922 he adapted his popular string quartet Sir Roger de Coverley for full symphony orchestra and Sir Henry Wood agreed at the last minute to include it in the last night of the Queen’s Hall Promenade Concerts at the end of that month. This elaborate and colourful orchestral version has never been widely performed but has now been brilliantly transcribed by Alastair Wheeler to provide a miniature dance poem for grade 5 level concert band.Bridge’s lively treatment of one of England’s most famous traditional dance melodies willmake a fitting end to any concert with the strains of Auld Lang Syne introduced by Bridge as a nod towards Sir Roger de Coverley’s traditional function as the final dance of a Christmas Ball as it was in Old Mr. Fezziwig’s party in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

For String Quartet:

Quoting Saxton: My Fantazia for String Quartet was complete in December 1993 in ...(+)
Quoting Saxton: My Fantazia for String Quartet was complete in December 1993 in response to a commission from the London International String Quartet Competition for a test piece for the 1994 competition. Funds were provided bythe John S Cohen Foundation. The title gives the clue to the nature of the music: the viol fantasia was the chosen form of composition for the greatest English composers of the mid-seventeenth century Lawes Jenkins Ferraboscoin particular. They inherited the techniques of vocal polyphony from Byrd and Gibbons and forged a new instrumental polyphonic style. The culmination of this genre was reached in the magnificent works of Henry Purcell around1680 and it was Purcell who adopted the spelling ‘Fantazia’.I have always loved this music and when asked to write a short piece for strings I decided to pay tribute to this under-rated tradition. Most fantazias consistedof short joined sections and I have expanded this to create and eight-minute piece in three larger sections the essence being contrapuntal interplay and equality of part-writing. (Any idea of stylistic reference would be absurdion the late twentieth century). The first section is a lyrical allegro moderato which leads into a sustained and intense slow movement; this in turn gives way to a final quick section of a dancing character a featurefrequently encountered in Purcell’s own consort pieces.

Ed. Critica A. Borin. Par VIVALDI ANTONIO. Casa Ricordi Milano in partnership with Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venezia (Istituto Antonio Vivaldi). Critical edition by Alessandro Borin. The six Concerts op. VI for violin, strings and continuo by Antonio Vivaldi were published in Amsterdam by Roger in 1719. Although the contribution of Vivaldi was probably modest – even to assume that the collection was published without the composer’s assistance and perhaps even his agreement - these six compositions mark a decisive step towards the definition of the classic Vivaldi Concerto, a change evident both from the systematic adoption of the three-movement plan and from the absence of any supplementary solo parts beyond the principalviolin. This critical edition is based on the first edition of Opus VI and its reprints, but takes also into consideration all the sources of single concertos printed into anthologies or transmitted in manuscript form (Wiesentheid and Dresden). The information gathered through the comparative analysis of the manuscript and the printed traditions of Vivaldi’s Opus 6 has permitted us to reconstruct the links among the sources, to clarify some problematic editorial decisions and formulate new hypotheses on the genesis and the intrinsic nature of the collection as a whole. / Niveau : Intermédiaire à Avancé / Classique / Répertoire / Violon, Ensembles de Cordes et Basse Continue

Ed. Critica A. / Niveau : Intermédiaire à Avancé / Date parution : 1905-07-09/ Répertoire / Violon, Ensembles de Cordes et Basse Continue
