Münden,
Gerd-Peter.
Year
after year, during Advent
and the Christmas season,
compositions are sought
which present well-known
carols in a new light,
whether it be
compositions set for
small or larger groups,
for children or adults,
with or without
accompanying keyboard
instruments. This
collection by Gerd-Peter
Münden presents carols
in new settings as a
welcome addition to the
Christmas literature and
will enrich the
repertoire of an
adultsâ?? or
childrenâ??s
choir.
The
Editor Gerd-Peter
Münden is one of the
most creative German
church-musicians today.
From 1992 to 1999 he
worked as the cantor in
Minden, where he also
directed the music school
for choristers. From 1999
he has been the
Cathedral-Cantor at the
Braunschweig Cathedral
and the director of the
cathedral school for
choristers. He is the
initiator and artistic
director of a successful
school project throughout
Germany encouraging
youngsters to sing.

These five
anthems, covering 130
years, are all mainstays
of the British church and
cathedral choir canon.
The name SAM-Klang takes
the three voice parts
from the arrangements --
Soprano, Alto and Men --
and combines it with the
Scandinavian and German
words for
“sound†to
create the portmanteau
word “sound
together†or
“harmony.â€
The series offers basic
and advanced choral
repertoire. In addition
to new repertoire and new
arrangements, you will
also find essential parts
of the classical German,
Scandinavian, French and
English SATB repertoire,
carefully and
considerately reworked
for SAM. The arrangements
retain the characteristic
features of the original
movements and have almost
the same richness of
timbre, resulting in
works which sound nearly
unchanged to an audience.
Piano reductions of all
choral movements
facilitate rehearsal
preparation. The
arrangements offer
development opportunities
for all voice sections,
bringing new life and new
quality to SAM choir
work. SAM-Klang enables
youth choirs to gain
access to classical
choral literature and
ensures that mixed choirs
who face challenges in
finding singers for all
male voice parts continue
to have access to
well-loved
repertoire.

“Cath
edral Grove†is a
magnificent park on
Vancouver Island in
British Columbia, Canada,
containing some of the
oldest and largest trees
in the world. It is the
towering, majestic
pillars of these ancient
giants and the quiet
serenity of this place
that inspired this music.
Evocative and
impressionistic in
nature, Robert Buckley's
writing depicts the
richness of the colors
and textures, and the
diffused light shining
through the canopy of
leaves above. At times
hauntingly lyrical, and
other times prayer-like
and reverent, but always
filled with awe and
beauty. (Includes
optional part for
acoustic guitar or harp).

Charles Coffin, a French
poet and educator whose
hymn verses were often
translated into English.
My approach toward
setting the poem was my
usual one; that is, to
translate literally the
words into music (note
the dips into the minor
mode for the cave of
Bethlehem and the child
of poverty.) But most of
all, I wanted to capture
the sense of joy and
peace brought by the
arrival of the Christ

A regal
celebration of a
time-honored hymn is
displayed in this festive
arrangement! Classic
brass motives define the
introduction, raising the
curtain on a joyful
unison presentation of
the well-known ELLACOMBE
theme. A graceful middle
verse offers a pleasing
contrast of interesting
choral textures, giving
directors an opportunity
for interpretive freedom.
Driving to a climactic
conclusion, the anthem
explodes in a sensational
sonic moment worthy of
