Par BEFFA KAROL. Comme son titre l'indique, ce n'est pas sous le signe de Bartók mais sous celui de Reich que j'ai composé ce Music for Four Musicians pour deux percussions et deux pianos. Cela faisait longtemps que je voulais écrire pour cette formation originale, quand le quatuor Essor a fait appel à moi, au début du premier confinement (avril 2020). L'œuvre est en trois mouvements, qui peuvent être joués indépendamment. Ludique, le premier est un jeu de questions et réponses de plus en plus resserrées. Noté « rêveur », le deuxième se veut planant, avec ses canons rapprochés. Le troisième est celui qui s'inspire le plus des musiques actuelles, par ses déhanchements chaloupés et ses interruptions brusques, comme si les instrumentistes s'amusaient à se couper la parole. Le tout est un hommage à Steve Reich, sans citation littérale néanmoins. De ce géant de la musique, j'ai retenu l'esprit : les canons, les déphasages, le goût pour l'hyperconsonance, l'attirance pour les claviers et les percussions à hauteurs déterminées. / Date parution : 2022-11-08/ Répertoire / 2 Percussions et 2 Pianos
