from 15 famous Japanese
Rock and ballad songs
from Visual Kei bands,
including Forever Love by
X Japan. The difficulty
of the arrangement is
indicated in 5 levels for
each song. 13 pieces are
arranged for intermediate
level, while 3 are for
advanced level, and it
includes the song
Anniversary by YOSHIKI,
which is originally a
piano concerto but
arranged in piano solo
for advanced players. The
score is notated in
double staves for piano,
but it also can be played
on other instruments such
as guitar as the chord
names are indicated. The
pages with only original
Japanese lyrics are
included. All songs are
arranged in the original
keys and the same scales
as the original songs.
The arrangement closely
recreates the original
sounds and atmospheres
while using easier
fingering for
intermediate level piano
skills.

Japan Songs
was originally conceived
as a song cycle for
Voice, Shakuhachi & Piano
Trio. In 2019,
Kyo-Shin-An Arts asked
six beloved composers to
each write one song. All
six said yes, the
premiere was scheduled,
and the journey began.
When the first rehearsal
at long last arrived, in
November 2020, we
realized we had not
commissioned a song cycle
but rather a collection
of independent gems. Each
song captures the
personality and style of
its creator as well as
the deep emotional impact
of the pandemic during
which it was written. 1.

writes:On March 11th 2011
a massive 9.0- magnitude
earthquake occurred off
the coast of
north-eastern Japan.I'm
writing these programme
notes barely a week later
and the death toll caused
by the quake and
resulting tsunami already
exceeds 6000, with
thousands of people still
unaccounted for. I have
many friends associated
with many bands
throughout Japan and one
of these, Yutaka Nishida,
suggested I write a piece
to raise money to help
those affected by the
disaster. I was
immediately attracted by
the idea and have
arranged Cantilena (a
brass band piece recently
commissioned by the
Grenland International
Brass Festival, Norway)
for wind band, giving it
a new title tohonour my
friends in the Land of
the Rising Sun.I will be
donating royalties from
this piece to the
Japanese Red Cross
Society Emergency Relief
Fund and am delighted to
say that my distributors,
De Haske, who will
generously also donate
all net profits from
sales of this piece, have
pledged a substantial
advance payment to the
Red Cross so that what
little help this project
generates can be
immediate.It is my
sincere wish that this
'Band Aid' project will
allow wind bands around
the world support the
people of Japan, where
bands are a way of life
for many, in this
