Children� �??s Oak was commissioned by the wind band from Beauquesne, France. This solemn work pays homage to a city particularly affected by the two World Wars and is inspired by the knowledge that the city of Beauquesne needed to recover from these terrible episodes in its history. The title has its origin in the roots of the word â??Beauquesneâ?, the beautiful oak tree. It is a beautiful slow piece for your concert, or as a resource to work on phrasing and intonation, or alternatively as a warm up piece.

Children â??s Oak is geschreven in opdracht van het blaasorkest van het Franse Beauquesne. Dit plechtige werk is een eerbetoon aan een plaats die in de beide wereldoorlogen zwaar is getroffen. Het is ge nspireerd op de gedachte dat de gemeente Beauquesne zich moest herstellen na deze verschrikkelijke periodes uit haar geschiedenis. De titel is gebaseerd op het woord â??beauquesneâ??: de mooie eikenboom. Het is een fraai langzaam stuk voor uw volgende concert dat tevens geschikt is om te werken aan frasering en intonatie. Opening with a heroic fanfare, this stunning original composition was inspired by the 15th century Inca citadel Machu Picchu and specifically the Intihuatana stone in what is now southeastern Peru where sun worship was favored. Many historians have come to refer to the Inca Empire as Children of the Sun. The work continues with an intense, almost frenzied, component that sets the stage for an active interplay of contrasting themes featuring a melodic statement interrupted by accented percussive statements. A pensive and lush moment builds with strong percussion contribution to a bold and satisfying conclusion. (4:45).

Francisco de Madina (1907-1972), also known as Aita Madina, received his education in Bordeaux and was ordained a priest in 1929. He served his first parish in Buenos Aires and became director of a school in Cuidad de Salta. During this time, he began to develop as a composer and started to premiere his work in Buenos Aires. His primary influences included Debussy, Ravel and Prokofiev. In 1955, he moved to New York, where he founded a residence for the Lateran Canons Regular. His music began to enjoy performances in America and Spain. The Basque Children Overture, a perfect header for a family-themed concert, amuses with playful snippets of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, march-like rhythms, and a whirling finish. This work for soprano and concert band was originally written for a special occasion: the wedding of one of the composer’s children. It therefore matches another piece written for a similar occasion “I Shall Love But Thee”. The lyrics are from the book Respiro Neve by the internationally renowned art photographer Luca Artioli who possesses poetic talent as well. The first movement is stately and serene as where the contrasting allegro is much more dynamic and cheerful, requiring the solid high register of the singer. The conclusion is festive and radiant, partly thanks to the contribution of a piccolo trumpet! This work is a wonderful addition to the bandrepertoire wanting to perform with an excellent vocal soloist!

Deze compositie voor sopraan en kamerorkest is net als Van der Roosts eerdere werk I Shall Love But Thee oorspronkelijk geschreven voor een speciale gelegenheid: het huwelijk van een van de kinderen van de componist. Thunderbirds ist eine legendäre englische Fernsehserie aus den Sechzigern über einen futuristischen, weltweit operierenden Rettungsdienst. Die Serie, in der die Figuren von Puppen gespielt werden, genießt heute Kultstatus. Ihren Erfolg verdankt sie nicht zuletzt Barry Grays Musik im Stil der großen amerikanischen Kinofilme. Kazuhiro Morita verwendete das Hauptthema der Serie für dieses ausgezeichnete Arrangement.

Thunderbirds (Les sentinelles de l’air) est une série télévisée d'animation britannique créée, dans les années 1960, par Gerry Anderson. Particularité de cette série légendaire : les héros étaient des marionnettes, membres d’une organisation futuriste, appelée la « Sécurité Internationale » (« International Rescue »). Die Serie, in der die Figuren von Puppen gespielt werden, genießt heute Kultstatus. Ihren Erfolg verdankt sie nicht zuletzt Barry Grays Musik im Stil der großen amerikanischen Kinofilme. Kazuhiro Morita verwendete das Hauptthema der Serie für dieses ausgezeichnete Arrangement.

Thunderbirds (Les sentinelles de l’air) est une série télévisée d'animation britannique créée, dans les années 1960, par Gerry Anderson. Particularité de cette série légendaire : les héros étaient des marionnettes, membres d’une organisation futuriste, appelée la « Sécurité Internationale » (« International Rescue »). Ce programme culte doit son succès en partie la musique de Barry Gray, écrite dans un style proche des musiques des grandes fresques cinématographiques américaines. Un retour aux souvenirs d’enfance !
