Following the publication of Dvorák's early set of love songs 'Cypresses?, all his other songs with piano accompaniment are now appearing in Urtext editions.'Songs II? includes the mature works from Dvorák's late period. Besides the well-known cycle 'Love Songs? and the less well-known cycle 'Three Modern Greek Songs?, the volume also contains some entirely unknown and previously unpublished pieces: 'Lullaby? and the posthumously published 'Song from The Smith of Le?etín? completed by Josef Suk.The songs are presented in chronological order in volumes for high and low voice. This work, possibly commissioned by Prince-Bishop Sigismund Christoph von Schrattenbach , was assigned to three Salzburg composers: W. A. Mozart (part 1), Michael Haydn (part 2), and Anton Cajetan Adlgasser (part 3). Only the manuscript of part 1 has survived. Here Mozart drew heavily on the Salzburg tradition of church music and school dramas, perhaps taking Johann Ernst Eberlin and even his father Leopold as his models. The first performance took place in the Knights' Hall of the prince's palace on 12 March 1767. The libretto was supplied by Ignaz Anton Weiser (1701-1785), town councillor and mayor of Salzburg . Mozart wrote out many of the appoggiaturas in this early work, thereby providing a useful guide to the vocal practices of his day. Aria #2 has come down to us with an instructive passage in which the vocal part is ornamented in the hand of Leopold Mozart. The piano reduction, by K.-H. Tiefe Stimme / Low Voice. Par SCHUBERT FRANZ. Continuing the new Urtext edition of Schubert’s Lieder, editor Walther Dürr now presents Volume 6, for Low Voice. While volumes 1 to 4 of this series contain mostly Lieder that Schubert had published during his lifetime, volume 5ff. contain the remaining songs which are presented basically chronologically in the order of their Deutsch catalogue number. The Lieder in this sixth volume were composed during the period between autumn 1814 and spring 1815. With “Nachtgesang” (D 119) and “Trost in Tränen” (D120) Schubert turns to the“Strophenlied” in its stricter sense for the first time. He develops an interest in this form parallel to his first involvement with Geothe. Schubert, during this period an assistant teacher at his father’s school, orientated himself towards the so-called “Berliner Liederschule”, particularly the songs of Johann Friedrich Reichardt.
