Arrangeur: Andreas Köln. Par SCHUBERT FRANZ. Franz Schubert's 'Stabat Mater” D 175 is one of a number of church works that he wrote for his local congregation in Lichtental. This edition is based on the sole surviving source, the composer's autograph full score. Unlike its like-named companion piece D 383, Schubert uses the original Latin poem here. In his setting of April 1815 he focuses on the first two lines of the text depicting the Virgin's motherly sorrows. This edition is based on the Urtext from the 'New Schubert Edition”. Björk Guðmundsdóttir is one of the key recording artists of the 21st century. Moving effortlessly between disciplines and genres so fluidly it would shame David Bowie, Björk has tackled neo-classical, showtunes, house, pop, indie as well as acting (winning best actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her turn in Dancer In The Dark) and creating a visual template for her work that is staggeringly rich. Björk has used collaboration as a key part of her work and her work available in sheet music is perhaps her most radical example of this. In her own words ?I wanted to question how I felt about musical documentation, when CDs were slowly becoming obsolete, I was curious about the difference of midi (digital notation) and classical notation and enthusiastic in blurring the lines and at which occasions and how one would share music in these new times. What is the difference of karaoke and the lyrical recitals of the 19th century' Can one meet at bonfires and sing techno songs' (well icelanders do obvs) Maybe I should share digital notation that people could connect to their synths or do harpsichord versions of electronic beats to enjoy in the living rooms and hopefully families singalong to?.

The Royal Swedish Court commissioned this piece for the celebration of the Mass on Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary (March 17, 2013). The music depicts Mary's sorrow as the mother of a child that belongs not to her, but to all mankind.'My music is my own and I have never tried to be original. That has always been my motto and I have only tried to use music to express all the feelings which life has to offer. This has led people to describe my music as 'so sad that it sounds like birds who have lost their wings' but also as 'the happiest classical music that we have ever heard'.My compositions are almost all sacred. They express not only my own faith but also my appreciation and respect for the timeless texts that have been used for centuries and centuries.Mårten Jansson (b. 1965), elected member of the Föreningen svenska tonsättare (the Society of Swedish Composers), graduated from the Royal College of Music, Stockholm (KHM) with an MFA degree in Music Education, Dalcroze Eurhythmics and Voice. For more than ten years he was the music director and conductor of 'Carmen?, one of the most prominent womens' vocal ensembles in Sweden. For Children's Choir and Piano . Par PART ARVO. ‘I went to nursery school every day until the end of secondary school!’ Arvo Pärt says and pauses, staring slyly at his listener. ‘My mother worked at a nursery school in Rakvere, and I always went to visit her after my lessons.’ There, the future composer often sat at the piano and played or improvised for his little friends. Arvo Pärt is a composer best known for his 'tintinnabuli' compositions. It is a lesser-known fact that in his earlier years as a composer, he also wrote children's songs and piano pieces along with music for plays and animated films. This volume, 'Songs from Childhood', contains a selection of Arvo Pärt's music for children from the period 1956-1970. In those years he was involved with several children's studios and theatres as the piano accompanist and composer. Most of his music for children came about by way of improvisation in rehearsals and was only later completed and put on paper. These pieces therefore retain all the spontaneity and playful spirit in which they were created. 'Songs from Childhood' includes a CD of the same name, providing recordings of the songs with new and colourful instrumental accompaniments in the roiginal Estonian language for your enjoyment. These new accompaniments, which are also included as backing tracks on the CD, were arranged by the composer Tauno Aints in collaboration with Arvo Pärt. The sheet music of these arrangements is available on hire. Alex Freeman?s Under the arching heavens: A Requiem (2018) was commissioned by Nils Schweckendiek and the Helsinki Chamber Choir to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Finnish civil war. Structured around the Latin liturgy of the mass for the dead, the work has a duration of more than an hour and also incorporates poems in Finnish, Swedish and English, reflecting both the specific reason for the commission and the universality of human suffering caused by war. In the non-liturgical texts chosen by Freeman, birds are a recurring image, as is that of a mother and child. The work ends with lines by Walt Whitman from a poem written in the aftermath of the American Civil War; lines described by the composer as ?some of the most comforting poetry in the English language.? Also included on the disc is A Wilderness of Sea, another recent choral piece which draws on works by Shakespeare, and the poet?s images of the sea, and of mankind?s relationship with it.
