Aus: Israelsbrünnlein. Par SCHEIN JOHANN HERMANN. Johann Hermann Schein’s Israelsbrünnlein, published in Leipzig in 1623, is a supreme achievement not only among the works of this composer, who had been Thomaskantor in Leipzig since 1616, but also for the entire body of German music written during the first half of the 17th century. Among the 26 motets written “in the Italian madrigal manner” 23 are settings of Old Testament texts, a fact to which the collection owes its title. The source for the text of this collection is the “inexhaustible fountain” of the Psalms, the books of Moses, the Prophets, the Songs of Solomon, and other books of the Old Testament. / Mottet / Répertoire / Choeur SSATB et Basse Continue

Arrangeur: Alfred Mann. Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. The best-known and most beloved large-scale musical work in the English-speaking world, Messiah was first performed in Dublin over 200 years ago to benefit local charities. Since that time, it has given millions of performers their primary experience in singing classical music. Today it is the supreme example of the English oratorio. A meditation on the life of Christ, the work is a brilliant amalgam of traditional Italian opera, English anthem, and German Passion. Reprinted from the authoritative edition prepared by noted musical scholar Alfred Mann, this inexpensive, full-score edition will be welcomed by students, musicians, singers, and music lovers who will want to study and savor every detail of this glorious masterpiece. Reprint of the Rutgers University Documents of Music, 1959, 1961, and 1965 editions. Handel's masterpiece Messiah, the most frequently performed of his choral works, composed in 1741. An inspiring sacred oratorio with spontaneous melodies, and bright orchestration from the first aria Every Valley Shall Be Exalted, to the thunderous final Amen chorus. Complete full score, edited by Alfred Mann./ Répertoire / Choeur

(+)
A 20th century jazz prodigy with a supreme talent for improvisation, Louis Armstrong would become a successful popular entertainer in later years. He could still revisit the dazzling instrumental performances of his youth but in time 'Satchmo' became even more famous for his gravelly vocals and larger-than-life guest performances in TV shows and musical films. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote that there were no second acts in American lives but Armstrong proved him wrong. With his reputation secure, the pioneering jazzman happily tackled the wide range of popular songs reflected in this excellent collection. In addition to self-penned jazz numbers like Back O' Town Blues and I Want A Butter And Egg Man , Armstrong recorded Thiele and Weiss's What A Wonderful World and John Barry and Hal David's wistful James Bond film song We Have All The Time In The World . Armstrong would sing anything. He never gave less than a heartfelt vocal performance and people loved him for it. This unique collection celebrates some of his best and most famous songs. The accompanying audio CD features a selection of Armstrong 's Storyville recordings made in Europe and offers a further insight into the range and versatility of this unique musician and performer. / Piano/Vocal/Guitare (PVG)

Oper in Funf Akten Version 1756. Par RAMEAU JEAN-PHILIPPE. Richer than ever ? Rameau?s ?Zoroastre? in the version of 1756. Opera in five acts. Rameau?s revised version of his opera ?Zoroastre?, which could be heard and seen between 20 January 1756 and 26 March 1757 at the Académie royale de musique, was favourably received. Also from today?s point of view the work profits dramaturgically from many of the changes and seems altogether richer and more tightly woven than the original of 1749. The subject matter of the libretto, derived from Ancient Persian sources, is timeless: the struggle between good and bad. The good is embodied by the religious reformer Zoroastre, a representative of the supreme light being Orosmade. He is opposed by the ambitious magician Abramane who serves Ariman, the spirit of the dark. The opera includes some of Rameau?s most ecstatic and spiritual musical numbers, such as the episode of sun worship in Act 3 with the sublime ?Hymne à la Lumière?, which, for unknown reasons, was not integrated in the revision of 1756. It is therefore included in Appendix 3 of this Bärenreiter edition. Incidentally, with ?Zoroastre? the prologue, wh ich had been customary since the beginnings of French opera in the 1670s, was abandoned. Instead Rameau was the first to introduce an overture which set the scene for the entire drama and thereby anticipated Gluck?s opera reform by many years. - One of Rameau?s main works for the stage, now available with all its versions - With a straight-forward piano reduction in the vocal score by François Saint-Yves - Available on sale full score (B0A8867-01) and vocal score (BA08867-90) - Performance material available for hire BA08867-72 - Jean-Philippe Rameau - Opera Omnia (OOR) IV/26 / Date parution : 2022-07-30/ Répertoire / Chant et Piano

Dramma per musica in thre acts. Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. Tamerlano HWV 18; Dramma per musica in 3 acts Handel began the composition of Tamerlano, one of the supreme masterpieces of Baroque opera seria, on 3rd July 1724. The libretto was an adaptation by Nicola Haym of Agostino Piovene's Tamerlano, Tragedia per musica, which had been set to music by Francesco Gasparini, and performed in Venice in 1711. When Handel dated the last page of the autograph on 4rd July the work appeared to be complete; but during the three months which passed before the premiere at the King's Theatre in the Haymarket on 31 October, so many alterations and revisions were made that a fresh performing-score had to be writtern very late inthe proceedings, to replace an earlier one which is now 1ost. There were twelve performances between 31 October 1724 and 8 May 1725. Handel revived the opera only once, in 1731, for three performances. For this revival he marked in the performing score a number of cuts in the recitatives, which are reproduced in the present edition; there is more recitative in Tamerlano than in any other Handel opera. Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition. Full score (BA4052) and vocal score (BA4052-90) available for sale Performance material (BA4052-72) available for hire/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

Johannespassion. Par HOMILIUS GOTTFRIED AUGUST. The oratorio Passions by Homilius were among the last compositions of their kind in the 18th century. In an oratorio Passion the chorus is restricted mainly to singing the chorales and the interjections of the crowd; only the conclusion of a Passion provides an opportunity for an extensive choral movement. In the St. John Passion the final chorus emphasizes the supreme importance of the Crucifixion as the climax of St. John's Gospel. The free elements of the composition take the forms customary at the time: da capo arias are predominant./ Répertoire / Solistes SSATB, Choeur SATB, 2 Cors, 2 Flûtes Trav

Aus: Israelsbrünnlein. Geistliche Madrigale. The source for the text of this collection is the “inexhaustible fountain” of the Psalms, the books of Moses, the Prophets, the Songs of Solomon, and other books of the Old Testament./ Répertoire / Choeur SSATTB
