Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. Many of the works in Sing, Choirs! are presented in their original form, such as Bruckner's Locus Iste and Mozart's Laudate Dominum . Others are arrangements, adaptations or longer pieces, abridged to bring them into the scope of a useable anthem, including choral arrangements of Handel's Largo , the Ave Marias by Schubert and by Bach and Gounod, and Franck's Panis Angelicus amongst many others. Cette partition vient tout naturellement compléter les nombreuses pièces a cappella qui sont à mon catalogue et dont le Nederlands Kamerkoor vient d'en enregistrer certaines. Fidèle à ma langue de prédilection pour le chant choral - l'anglais - j'ai ici continué à explorer le répertoire de la poésie anglo-saxonne en utilisant un poème de Walt Whitman, poète américain de la fin du XIXe siècle, A song of joys. J'en ai tiré six séquences qui forment la structure de la pièce: Song, Space, Soul, Life, Death et Sail. Ces six séquences sont les différentes facettes d'un même sentiment, The Joy ('La Joie'), exalté tout au long de ce poème, véritable hymne à la joie qui s'achève par cet envoi: To sail and sail and sail! Par MOORE PHILIP. This setting of Videntes Stellam aims to explore the extremes of emotion surrounding the revelation of Christ. The piece begins by depicting the vision of the star and the journey of the Kings, utilising a bright harmonic language in the Organ and emphatic, cascading outbursts of praise from the Choir, periodically interrupted by more reflective iterations of the text. Following a final declaration of exaltation and joy, the piece concludes with a peaceful and reverential picture of the giving of gifts to the infant Jesus, fading away as the Organ takes up the original theme under the final statement of '? myrrham' from the Choir. Suitable forevensongs or concerts throughout the whole of the Advent, Christmas and Epiphany seasons. Kantate Zum 3. Weihnachtstag. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. The cantata 'Ich freue mich in dir' was first performed during Bach's second year as Thomaskantor, on the 3rd day of Christmas, and belongs to the so-called annual cycle of chorale cantatas. Here the focus of the composition is the hymn of the same name by Philipp Ziegler, in which the first and final strophes were adopted, word for word, in the first and sixth movements of the cantata. The soprano, which carries the chorale, is supported by the conrnett [Zink], which already at this time had become a seldom-used instrument. The joyful, lively choral movement with instrumental interludes directly follows the first aria, and begins with a marked, ascending motive at the word'Getrost!' [safely]. The oboes d'amore which accompany the alto lend the movement a special color. In the second aria [for soprano], Bach again shows himself to be the master of text interpretation. Kirchenkantate, Bwv 192, 1730Ca. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. The cantata 'Nun danket alle Gott” (Now thank we all our God) BWV 192 is based on the text of the well-known hymn. It is therefore one of a small number of chorale cantatas which contain no free poetic texts. Correspondingly, there are no recitatives either. It has only recently been assumed that this three-movement work was not intended for Leipzig, but was actually written in 1730 for Bach's prestigious position as Kapellmeister of Saxe-Weissenfels. The court of Duke Christian enjoyed the its sojourn in the newly-renovated castle of its secondary residence in Sangerhausen and, at Trinity, in the court church, celebrated the anniversary of its consecration with festive music. Bach evidently occasionally contributed to this. The work does not survive complete. Even in the 18th century a full score evidently no longer existed, just a set of parts, the tenor part of which is entirely missing.
