Bruch's

the premiere performance
by Joseph Joachim and to
the release of the

Max Bruch's Violin
Concerto no. 1 zipped
onto the road to success

since. Yet from the
preface of the
BreitkopfUrtext
edition,one can infer how
things looked like behind
the dazzling facade.
After the world premiere,
the composer struggled
for the definitive form.
He wrote 3, 4 development
sections in the finale,
and sought the advice of
celebrated virtuosi such
as Joseph Joachim and
Ferdinand David to revise
the solo part. And after
all this was done (see
above), Bruch suffered
under the work's
popularity: Have I
written nothing but this
one concerto?The new
Urtext edition is based
primarily on the first
edition. Next to the main
source and the autograph,
what is supremely
interesting is a solo
part with entries by
Joachim and Bruch. It
confirms how intensively
the two men collaborated
on honing the final form
of the work.

Max
Bruch succeeded in
composing an impressive
setting of the well known
Advent text, O Heiland,
reiss die Himmel auf (O
Saviour, tear open the
heavens). Compositionally
it is extremely
sophisticated in its
construction; Bruch
combines both the choir
and orchestra in a
powerfully expressive and
moving portrayal of
mankind waiting for the
coming of the Saviour.
Following the premiere of
the work in 1869 it was
celebrated as Bruch's
most important choral
work, but later it fell
largely into oblivion.
Almost 150 years after it
was composed, for the
first time a

Max
Bruch succeeded in
composing an impressive
setting of the well known
Advent text, O Heiland,
reiss die Himmel auf (O
Saviour, tear open the
heavens). Compositionally
it is extremely
sophisticated in its
construction; Bruch
combines both the choir
and orchestra in a
powerfully expressive and
moving portrayal of
mankind waiting for the
coming of the Saviour.
Following the premiere of
the work in 1869 it was
celebrated as Bruch's
most important choral
work, but later it fell
largely into oblivion.
Almost 150 years after it
was composed, for the
first time a
critical-scholarly
edition is now available
to the public. Score and
part available separately

Max
Bruch wrote his Concerto
for two pianos in 1912
for an American piano
duo, who only ever
performed a cut down
version. It was not until
1976 that the original
version was released. The
piano reduction by
Wilhelm
Bruckner-Ruggeberg is now
available in this new
edition and is also
available with additional
separate solo parts for
both piano parts. Bruch's
pianistic, powerful late
arrival reflects echoes
of Bach and Brahms.

... und
spielst du auch
Geige?Diese Frage
begleitete den Sohn des
beruhmten Geigers Carl
Flesch (1873-1944) ein
Leben lang. Mit diesem
Satz beginnt er seinen
Lebensbericht, der
gleichzeitig auch die
Geschichte seines Vaters
und die Geschichte des
Musiklebens in einer Zeit
des Umbruchs und der
grossen Finsternis ist.
Ein unglaublich
fesselnder Ausschnitt aus
der Musik- und
Kulturgeschichte unseres
Jahrhunderts.Vor den
Augen des Lesers entsteht
ein lebendiges
Kaleidoskop, in das
Auszuge aus Briefen
beruhmter Zeitgenossen,
Zitate aus den
Tagebuchaufzeichnungen,
Charakterbeschreibungen
beruhmter Musiker,
selbsterlebte oder in der
Familie uberlieferte
Anekdoten und die oft
eigenwilligen Ansichten
des Autors mit eingewoben

Max Bruch
(1838-1920) was a German
composer and contemporary
of Johannes Brahms, with
a style very much in the
same Romantic classicism
camp as that of his
better known friend.
Best known for his
violin concerti and
choral works, his chamber
works are also revived
occasionally. This
reprint collection of
short Romantic works for
piano include the
following: I. Andante
sostenuto, II. Andante
con moto, III. Impromptu.
Allegretto, IV.
Moderato, V. Walzer.
Grazioso, and VI. Andante
con larghezza.
