À la veille du passage à l?an 2000, architectes, charpentiers, tailleurs de pierre, maîtres verriers mettaient fin à un long travail de restauration et sept siècles de construction, pour redonner à la cathédrale de Quimper sa splendeur initiale. Fêter la fin des travaux était l?occasion de rassembler dans un même hommage ceux qui ont participé à sa restauration et tous ceux qui l?ont fondée, bâtie, transformée au cours des siècles. Cette double commande musicale et littéraire de la Direction des affaires culturelles, a été faite auprès de Philippe Le Guillou pour le texte et d?Hervé Lesvenan pour la musique.
