Par DUTILLEUX HENRI. Composed between 1973 and 1976, Ainsi La Nuit for a String Quartet is one of the most important works of its genre, by Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), a French composer. This score of Ainsi La Nuit is the conductor's score, with the four instruments altogether. The score for each individual instrument can be bought separately. Commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation for the Juilliard Quartet, Ainsi La Nuit is based on a series of studies, lasts 18 minutes and is divided into 7 sections: 1. Nocturne 2. Temps suspendu Built on single hexachords, it also use the octatonic mode and focus on harmonies, contrasts and oppositions of register. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers, among many others. The composer Patrick Burgan and the giant of French music Henri Dutilleux formed real elective affinities with each other. Dutilleux never missed an oppor­tunity to mention the high esteem in which he held the younger musician's work. Dedicated to the memory of Henri Dutilleux, Songe À La Douceur takes its title from the 2nd verse of 'L'Invitation au Voyage', from the 'Fleurs du mal' by Baudelaire - a poet who was a constant source of inspiration for Dutilleux. Burgan invites listeners to explore the musical universe of the French master: the numerous quotations of his work, duly flagged in the score, form a superb constellation that stretches from the Mystère de l'Instant to the Deuxième Symphonie via the quartet Ainsi la nuit, Métaboles and the concerto for cello Tout un monde lointain. Reflecting L'Invitation au Voyage, the composer follows the principle of verse and refrain, and the hypnotic return of the soft chords in pizzicato echoes the famous lines: 'Là, tout n'est qu'ordre et beauté, / Luxe, calme et volupté?. This tribute, in the form of a delicate alchemy, combines sparkle, sweetness and spirit. / Violoncelle

Commissioned by Claude Desmarets, this string quartet was written at Fontevraud Abbey in 2016 as part of a composer's residence organized by the association 'Foyer Joy-eux' which is devoted to perpetuating the memory of pianist Geneviève Joy and composer Henri Dutilleux. 'Ainsi un nouveau jour' is an imaginary continuation of Dutilleux's legendary quartet 'Ainsi la nuit' created around short texts evoking different mythological figures.
