Lubo? Fi?er (1935?1999) was one of the most distinctive figures of Czech music in the 20th century and composed the Variations on an Unknown Theme in 1976. The ?unknown theme? was a prankish eight-bar theme from Fi?er?s student days. In the elation following the home-team win over Canada on 15 March 1959, he made a bet with his colleague Kalach to compose a concert piece for violin and orchestra with the working title ?Canada-Rondo?. The whimsical contest was abandoned, but Fi?er did not forget the theme and he later created variations on it for his new composition for the Talich Quartet. The Variations on an Unknown Theme have now been published for the first time ever. This edition is based on the autograph of the score which is housed in the Czech Museum of Music in Prague.

Dvorák n'avait que vingt ans quand il écrivit son Quatuor à cordes n o 1 en la majeur, op. 2 (1862). Le travail a finalement été créée par des musiciens d'orchestre du Théâtre national, mais une édition imprimée n'a pas été publié avant le milieu du 20e siècle.Cette nouvelle édition Bärenreiter présente le texte musical principal de l'édition complète de 1989, qui donne à l'oeuvre dans sa forme définitive, après la révision de Dvorák. Completed in Krecovice in May 1911, this demanding work, with its complex harmonies and motivic structure, seemed avant-garde for its day: the Berlin premiere of November 1912 was accompanied by protests from the audience. Now Zdenek Nouza has edited the first scholarly-critical edition of this piece. The principal source is the first edition in full score, published by Simrock in Berlin. Mozart ’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K. 364 (320d), is his only complete surviving work in this genre. He wrote it in 1779 after returning from Paris and Mannheim. For two decades it was known only in a few copyists’ manuscripts. The first edition did not appear until 1802. The work achieved great popularity that same year, particularly the arrangements for Piano four-hands and Piano trio. This arrangement for String Sextet, dating from 1808, is interesting not only for its unusual scoring but also for the way the two concertante instrumentsinteract with the other strings. This edition revives this arrangement after almost two centuries, drawing primarily on the sole surviving source: the first edition in parts, published by the Vienna Stamperia Chimica in 1808. The editor, Christopher Hogwood, recounts the history of the work and the particulars of the arrangement in a trilingual preface (Eng . / Ger. / Cz . ) and a critical report.
