As so many
keyboards and virtual
instruments emulate
clavinet keyboard sounds
I thought it would be of
interest to many keyboard
players to write a book
containing riffs
associated with playing
the clavinet, usually
featured in Funk, Soul
and Rock,
Jazz-Funk-Fusion and
Reggae styles. The
Clavinet The clavinet
is a 5 octave keyboard
manufactured by Hohner
from the 1960’s to
the 1980’s and its
bright staccato sound has
been used extensively in
the above mentioned
styles. The clavinet is
often used with wah-wah
and phaser effects giving
unique sounds reminiscent
of how a rhythm guitarist
would play. Playing the
clavinet is generally
different than playing
the piano or organ.
Usually you are playing
very staccato parts
similar to how a
guitarist would pick a
string on the guitar. The
left and right hand often
play separate syncopated
parts that require
extensive practice. My
suggestion would be to
clap or tap the rhythm of
both left and right hand.
Once the rhythm is
mastered go on to play
the left and right hand
parts separately at a
slow tempo and gradually
speeding it up to the
recommended tempo. I
have created a youtube
video showing you the
steps that I recommend
for learning these
riffs. https://youtu.b

Each
of the 100 riffs has been
recorded 3 times:Clavinet
with rhythm backing
tracks, Rhythm backing
tracks, Rhythm backing
tracks at a slow
tempo.

play 14 classic blues the
best way--by doing. This
book and online audio
recording provide your
backup band as you
explore Country and
Urban, Acoustic and
Electric, Delta, Texas,
Chicago, Slide Guitar,
Alternate Tuning,
Traditional, and Modern
styles in many different
major and minor keys and
in a variety of tempos.
Melodies are first
presented on the
recording at a slow speed
with just guitar, then
repeated at regular speed
with the band. Finally,
you can play along with
the hot blues rhythm
section alone, and youve
got the makings of a
dynamite blues jam
session. Youll play all
the leads and solos.
Repeat a tune or passage
as many times as you want
at slow or regular speed.
Well jam all night long.
Beginners and
intermediate players can
practice basic skills.
Advanced players can hone
their improvisation
chops. The split track
recording allows you to
hear either just the
melody from one speaker,
just the rhythm section
from the other, or both
for maximum flexibility
and specific study. The
book includes melodies,
chord diagrams and guitar
tablature.

The
Art Of Lutherie offers a
glimpse into the mind and
craft of luthier Tom
Bills, whom many consider
to be one of the most
talented luthiers today.
In this beautifully
written and enjoyable
read, Tom elegantly and
clearly shares his
best-kept secrets and
methods of custom guitar
making - those which make
his guitars favorites
among top collectors and
players. Toms unique
approach to The Art Of
Lutherie will empower and
inspire you to create
more than just a guitar,
but a truly unique work
of art. The information
that is generously shared
within this insightful
and timeless work is both
practical and applicable.
It contains the same
hard-won wisdom that only
comes from years of
experience and
experimentation that Tom
uses in creating his
inspiring instruments.
Over the years, he has
produced instruments
considered to be some of
the best sounding guitars
ever made. Learning the
steps of how to build a
guitar is important, but
understanding why master
luthiers take those steps
and make those decisions
can empower you to make
your own educated
choices. This will allow
you to create unique
guitars, and the world
needs your art, your
guitars - your important
contribution. The Art Of
Lutherie, a truly unique
and inspiring guide, can
prepare you to reach new
heights when designing
and creating unique
guitars.It is not often I
heap such lavish praise
on people; however, Tom
is in this case more than
deserving: I know of no
other luthier whose work
I respect more. Tom knows
his craft inside and out;
he pours his soul into
every guitar he makes; he
uses cutting-edge science
to guide his work, and it
shows...as head of Artist
Relations and Product
Development at Mel Bay,
it gives me great
pleasure to publish Toms
work, which will no doubt
take the art of lutherie
to a new level. I hope
youll spend some time
soaking in this book - it
will certainly augment
your musicality - Collin

A new
day. A new event. A new
opportunity. We look
forward to these things
and the potential they
hold. We live our lives
looking forward, but we
understand them looking
backward (a thought of
Danish philosopher Soren
Kierkegaard). We do not
always know what the
future may hold, but we
must remember: first,
there are no guarantees
beyond the time and
opportunity we are given
to do good. Second,
change around us is
inevitable. Finally, and
the most important
aspect, we have choices.
This lesson is fixed to
the composer's office
door: Today is the
greatest day of your
life, if you want it to
be. Why not look forward
to the Promise on the
Horizon and the
possibilities for
greatness that lie within
it? The opening motif of
this concert fanfare is
purposely inquisitive as
the piece seeks to
establish its first
steps. The subtle shift
at measure 37 and again
at measure 69 are
reminders of the
challenges that await us
during the journey. Here
again it is a matter of
choice - do we choose to
let circumstances define
us, or do we define the
circumstances? The
section at 93 is a
resounding answer that we
will move barriers,
overcome obstacles and
keep our vision looking
forward. The piece builds
toward an exciting
conclusion from measure
127 onward. The piece
reinforces several basic
rhythmic patterns in 6/8
time. As a number of
these rhythms are
repeated, it provides an
easy opportunity for the
entire ensemble to grow
more comfortable
performing in this meter.
While it is a
fanfare-type piece,
remind young musicians to
play with lightness and
precision, rather than
intensity in volume.
Maintaining this style of
articulation and accuracy
helps the rhythms in 6/8
time maintain their
buoyancy. It is vital
that each musician
listens for the melody
and balances their part,
especially in moments
where the melody is
passed between sections.
If vibes are not
available, a second bell
set can be employed in
its place. It is hoped
that this piece is an
uplifting way to open
your next concert, and a
meaningful opportunity
for you to discuss the
power of making positive
choices with your
students in the ensemble
(as a reminder, regular
practicing of their
instrument is a positive
choice). Wishing you and
your ensemble well as you
look to the Promise on
the Horizon. A new
