Milan Pospisil in 1999,
which had entailed an
exhaustive evaluation of
the sources and been
given a full
text-critical editorial
treatment as a Eulenburg

years, Pospisils edition

completed in a manner
suitable for practice:

work depicts the course
of the river Vltava,
beginning with its first
two sources, the cold and
warm Vltava, and the
confluence of the two
streams that join to form
a single river; then the
course of the Vltava
through forests and
meadows, and through open
countryside where a
peasant wedding is being
celebrated; water-sprites
dance by the light of the
moon; on the nearby
cliffs castles, mansions
and ruins rise proudly
into the air; the Vltava
eddies in the St John's
Rapids, then flows in a
broad stream as it
continues its course
towards Prague, where the
Vysehrad appears, before
the river finally
disappears into the
distance as it flows
majestically into the
Elbe.
Vltava
(The Moldau),
Smetana's best-known and
most frequently performed
orchestral work, was
written between 19
November and 8 December
1874, at a time when

e Old Fortress of
Luxembourg” is a
commissioned work by the
Luxembourg Ministry of
Culture for the overture
of the official ceremony
of Luxembourg's National
Day. The piece is less
concerned with history,
but rather draws
inspiration from the
architecture of the
ancient fortress of
Luxembourg, known as
“Lucilinburhuc.” The
fortress, over 1000 years
old and also referred to
as the “Gibraltar of
the North,” primarily
consists today of the
Bock Rock, the crypt, the
casemates (an underground
defense system consisting
of kilometers of
tunnels), and the Holy
Spirit Citadel. These
elements are portrayed
through radiant fanfare
sounds, rhythmic
orchestral movements,
patriotic choral
melodies, and at times,
somber musical
depictions. As an
optional highlight, a
choir, supported by a
boys' choir, interprets
the newly composed text
of the third verse of the
Luxembourgish National
Anthem, adding an
additional touch of
patriotic grandeur to

gift written by Felix
Mendelssohn Bartholdy in
November 1830 for the
25th birthday of his
sister Fanny. Five years
later he decided to have
it printed, and his

translation as well. It
is in this form that the
setting of Psalm 115 has
become known alongside

gave the Novello
publishing company its
first embryonic form.
Here he arranges Rule,
Britannia! for Voice SATB
with Piano accompaniment
to introduce some
contrapuntal interest in
the verse.When 18th
century British composer
Thomas Arne included his
song Rule, Britannia! in
a masque based on the
life of Alfred the Great
that was presented at
Cliveden, the country
home of Frederick, Prince
of Wales, he could not
have imagined that more
than two hundred seventy
years later his ditty
would be known throughout
the British Isles and
beyond. Rule, Britannia!
is widely used in the
Royal Navy and British
Army and is featuredeach
year at the Last Night of
the Proms in the Royal
Albert Hall as a national
sing-along.At the time of
writing, the Dutch
actually 'ruled the
waves,' so this song was
more an exhortation than
a status report. The
lyrics were also a
statement of civil
liberty. Since Cromwell's
time, Britain had had a
standing army which could
be turned against the
native population. A
standing navy, however,
existed solely to protect
the nation from invaders,
protecting a free
populace.

Peak is a concert
piece that takes us deep
into the world of
volcanoes of the Auvergne
in central France. They
are dormant volcanoes
whose origins date back
from 7,000 to over 65
million years ago. Among
the most well-known are
the 80 volcanoes of the
Chaîne des Puys, a
spectacular natural
environment ranking among
the most fascinating
landscapes in the world.
The title of this dynamic
and rhythmic piece is a
reference to the local
spa town of Mont-Dore and
calls upon all sections
of the orchestra. The
central theme is very
mellow yet riveting and
the music depicts both
the dynamism and
tranquillity of the
region.

Originally,
the present work - with a
Latin text and the title
Non nobis, Domine - was a
gift written by Felix
Mendelssohn Bartholdy in
November 1830 for the
25th birthday of his
sister Fanny. Five years
later he decided to have
it printed, and his
publisher Simrock urged
him to produce a German
translation as well. It
is in this form that the
setting of Psalm 115 has
become known alongside
four other Psalms of
Mendelssohn's in a
compositional scope
ranging from church to
concert hall.The Urtext
edition is based on the
main sources, the
autograph and the first
edition.

humankind's greatest
prophets. Many of his
coded prophecies proved
true. He lived at the
time of the inquisition,
and his predictions and
medical therapies as a
physician made him face
consequences from the
church. After he had been
forced to flee several
times and had lost his
family to the plague, he
devoted himself to
clairvoyance. He wrote
down many events
inhistory in coded
predictions. Although
there is probably more
than one possible way of
interpretation, in our
world, Nostradamus is
still considered to be a
unique personality.
Whether he is degraded to
a charlatan or turned
into a myth, he surely
has moved humankind with
his prophecies. Otto M.
Schwarz, soundtrack
composer since 2001,
wrote a cinematographic
work about this man, who
is probably the
best-known prophet of the
last 1000 years.
