Wachet auf, ruft uns
die Stimme. Composed
by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Arranged by Philip
Sparke. Anglo Music
Midway Series. Festive
and Solemn Music. Score
Only. Composed 2003.
Anglo Music Press #AMP

Anglo Music Press
(BT.AMP-033-120).
This enchanting
melody is from the fourth
movement of Bach’s
Cantata 140 which was
composed in 1731 using
the parable of the wise
and foolish virgins as
the text. The work is
beautiful in its
simplicity with only
three melodic lines,
demonstrating
Bach’s
counterpoint at its best.
For greatest effect it is
suggested that the
trumpets and trombones
play behind the band or
to the right and left of
the stage.
Aus
der Kantate 140 'Wachet
auf, ruft uns die
Stimme'Johann Sebastian
Bach schrieb in seinem
musikalisch überaus
produktiven Leben
unzählige Kantaten.
Diese Kantate, deren Text
vom Gleichnis der klugen
und der törichten
Jungfrauen handelt,
schrieb er zum ersten
Adventssonntag. Philip
Sparke bearbeitete daraus
den vierten Satz, in
welchem sich Bachs
Kontrapunkt von seiner
elegantesten Seite zeigt,
für Blasorchester. Das
Stück besteht aus nur
drei melodischen Linien,
ist aber gerade in seiner
Schlichtheit
wunderschön.

Bach
schreef een ontelbare
hoeveelheid cantates.
Deze cantate, waarvan de
tekst afkomstig is van de
gelijkenis van de wijze
en de dwaze maagden,
schreef Bach in 1731 voor
de 27e zondag na
Drievuldigheidsdag (de
eerste week van deadvent)
en is gebaseerd op een
koraal van Philipp
Nicolai (1556-1608). Het
vierde deel van de
cantate, waarin
Bach’s contrapunt
zich van zijn meest
elegante kant laat zien,
werd door Philip Sparke
bewerkt. Het bestaat uit
drie melodielijnenen is
in zijn eenvoud
wonderbaarlijk
mooi.

This excellent
arrangement by Robert van
Beringen is of the
well-known German chorale
Wachet auf, ruft uns
die Stimme, taken
from the oratorio
Paulus (St. Paul)
by Felix Mendelssohn
Bartholdy (1809-1847).
Although accredited to
Mendelssohn it is thought
the melody was in fact
written by the pastor and
poet Philipp Nicolai in
1599. Robert van
Beringenâ??s arrangement
perfectly captures the
biblical story of St.
Paul.
Robert van
Beringen bewerkte het
bekende koraal Wachet
auf, ruft uns die
Stimme uit
Paulus, het eerste
oratorium van Felix
Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
Mendelssohn liet zich
graag door de muziek van
Johann Sebastian Bach
inspireren.Pas
vijfentwintig jaar oud
zette hij het dramatische
bijbelverhaal over Paulus
zeer overtuigend op
muziek. Robert van
Beringen maakte hiervan
een bekoorlijke versie
voor
fanfareorkest.
Rob
ert van Beringen
bearbeitete den bekannten
Choral Wachet auf,
ruft uns die Stimme
aus Felix Mendelssohn
Bartholdys erstem
Oratorium Paulus.
Der erst 25-jährige
Mendelssohn, der sich
gerne von Johann
Sebastian Bachs Musik
inspirieren lieÃ?,
setzte die dramatische
biblische Geschichte von
Paulus sehr
überzeugend in Musik
um. Auch in der Fassung
für Fanfareorchester
von Robert van Beringen
bestechend gut!
Paulus
(1834-1836), il primo
oratorio di Mendelssohn,
narra la vita di San
Paolo. Lâ??ouverture
è una fantasia sul
celebre corale Wachet
auf, ruft uns die
Stimme. Lâ??oratorio
Paulus è
rappresentativo del
romanticismo tedesco.
Lâ??arrangiamento di
Robert van Beringen ci fa
riscoprire questo
capolavoro spesso
dimenticato.
