Par SEMLER-COLLERY. French composer, conductor and teacher, Jules Semler-Collery (1902-1988) was born to a musical father. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he won many prizes. Semler-Collery 's works have been successful, with many of his concertos being included in the Conservatoire's list of compulsory works. Rêverie Et Scherzo for Clarinet and Piano is no exception to the composer's success. Published in 1950, Semler-Collery 's Rêverie is marked Andantino Cantabile and is in 6/8 meter. Both the Clarinet solo line and Piano accompaniment are virtousic, exploiting rhythm, tonality andharmony. A cadenza-like passage is heard towards the end. The Scherzo is marked Molta Leggiero and is staccato in 3/4 meter. Quaver and semiquaver passages are heard with the speed accelerating to a dramatic finale. Par GADE JACOB. Jalousie is a tango written by Danish composer Jacob Gade in 1925, originally scored for full orchestra. It soon became popular around the world and is today a classic in the modern repertoire, including many arrangements for various instruments and ensembles. This publication is the first for clarinet and piano, arranged by Paula Corley, former Pedagogy Chair for the International Clarinet Association, with piano accompaniment edited by Stephanie Bruning. The work consists of two themes the first a temperamental theme in D minor, followed by a lyrical section in D major, both with a typical tango rhythm. It became Gade\'s most popular and successful work, enjoying numerous radio broadcasts and recordings. However, his Introduction et Rondo for Clarinet and Piano also remains popular and is still regularly performed today. Widor became Director of Organ Studies at the Paris Conservatoire in 1890 and soon followed this by taking charge of the composition class. His Introduction et Rondo was composed in 1898 during his period at the Conservatoire and at the height of his career. Edward Gregson completed Tributes in the summer of 2010. Lasting some 16 minutes, there are five pieces in the set, each dedicated to a different composer and a different clarinettist (with whom Gregson had long musical associations). Each of the dedicatee composers wrote wonderfully for the Clarinet and, as a tribute to them, Gregson tried to invade, indeed imitate, their stylistic worlds in these pieces. They are as follows: To Francis Poulenc (for Emma Johnson) - a rather dreamy toccata, lyrical in feel, but interrupted by typically quirky and disruptive rhythmic episodes. To Gerald Finzi (for John Bradbury) - slow and lyrical with long melodic arches. Its expression is shaped by violent changes of tempo and dynamics, clashes between brilliant passagework and distinct articulation, on the one hand, and lyrical phrases, on the other, and a constant contrast between intense sonorities and light textures. The work?s concise form consigns it to the catalogue of so-called miniature pieces. Subito for violin and piano was composed in 1992 for the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. This arrangement for clarinet expands the instrument?s solo repertoire with a work of the highest compositional calibre, representing a mature stage in Witold Lutoslawski?s oeuvre. Among clarinettists, the composer is known principally for the Dance Preludes, which appear both on concert bills and also on the programmes of competitions and auditions. This edition completes our series of all three clarinet concertos by the Swedish composer and clarinettist Bernhard Henrik Crusell. Issued in Leipzig in 1811, it was his first published work but had definitely been composed several years prior to this. With its elegant head movement and the simple and moving Adagio, it is probably the most 'Mozartian? of all of his three concertos, although the final rondo is reminiscent of Carl Maria von Weber. The editor and clarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer is now presenting this charming work, between Classicism and Romanticism, on the basis of the first edition. The piano reduction wonderfully fits the hands and was prepared by Johannes Umbreit on the basis of the original orchestral parts. / Clarinette Et Piano
