In his own
distinctive style, Robert
van Beringen has composed
a very unique fantasy on
three themes by the
famous Baroque composers
Johann Sebastian Bach and
George Friedrich
Händel. Van Beringen
used Bachâ??s chorale
Brich an, o schönes
Morgenlicht
(â??Break forth, O
Beauteous Heavenly
Lightâ??) from his
Christmas Oratorio
and the recitative
Behold, a Virgin shall
conceive, and bear a son,
and shall call his name
Emmanuel, God with
Us from
Händelâ??s
Messiah. A perfect
way to say Merry
Christmas in
music!
In seinem
eigenen unverwechselbaren
Stil schuf Robert van
Beringen diese Fantasie
über drei Themen der
berühmten
Barockkomponisten Johan
Sebastian Bach und Johann
Friedrich Händel: Den
Choral Brich an, o
schönes
Morgenlicht nahm er
aus Bachs
Weihnachtsoratorium; aus Händels
Messias stammen
die beiden anderen
Themen: das Rezitativ
Denn sieh, eine
Jungfrau wird
schwanger und der
Hallelujah Chorus.

Henk
Hogestein has created a
calm, yet uplifting
arrangement of the famous
Irish song Believe Me,
if all these Endearing
Young Charms. The
melody displays the very
best of Irish tradition
with the words coming
from a poem by Thomas
Moore about love that
goes above and beyond
physical beauty. Irish
Charms will make a
wonderful inspirational
interlude at any concert.
In Irish
Charms verarbeitete
Henk Hogestein das
ruhige, stimmungsvolle
irische Lied Believe
Me, if All those
Endearing Young
Charms. Die liebliche
Melodie ist traditionell
irisch; der Text ist ein
Gedicht über Liebe,
die über die
vergängliche
Schönheit hinausgeht,
das der berühmte
Dichter Thomas Moore
einst für seine durch
Krankheit entstellte Frau
Bessie schrieb. Ein
ergreifendes, ruhiges
Stück für

Straordinario
musicista, poeta e
cantante, Thomas Moore
(1779-1852) trovò la
sua vera ispirazione
quando si mise a lavorare
su Irish Melodies
(1808-1834) che ottenne
un importante successo.
Poetizzò
l’Irlanda con una

vibrante che hanno ben
presto reso popolari
questi brevi canti. Moore

malata. Henk Hogenstein
ne ha realizzato un
arrangiamento fluido e
coinvolgente.

Composer Jacob
de Haan has based The
Heart of Lithuania on
five folk melodies from
Lithuania, a country that
despite its small size
has a rich cultural
heritage. The choice and
diversity of emotions,
largely determined by the
characteristic melodies,
take the listener
straight to the heart of
the Lithuanian people.
Litouwen, de
grootste van de drie

Componist Jacob de Haan
heeft The Heart of

op vijf volksmelodieën
die met name geliefd
waren in de tweede

liederen afkomstig zijn

reichhaltige Quelle der
Inspiration für Jacob
de Haan, der sich fünf
traditionelle Lieder, die
voller Freude, Hoffnung

der Liebe erzählen,

Harmony
Festival is Jan de
Haan’s expression
of his great respect for
the composer of
composers, Johann
Sebastian Bach. He has
used the four note names
which form the name of
this composer as the
basis of this piece. This
four note motif provides
us with the most
beautiful and unexpected
chord combinations
creating a
‘festival of
harmonies’!
Met Harmony
Festival betuigt Jan
de Haan zijn respect voor
de componist der
componisten: Johann
Sebastian Bach. Hij
gebruikte de vier
notennamen die samen de
achternaam van deze
componist vormen. (In
Duitsland wordt de
besaangeduid met de
letter b, en de noot b
met de letter h) Aan de
hand hiervan creëerde
de componist onverwachte
akkoordverbindingen,
waarmee een festival van
harmonieën ontstond.
In het eerste deel van
het werk wordt het thema
voorgesteldin
verschillende variaties.
Hierbij valt het gebruik
van polymetriek op. Er
volgt een overgang naar
het tweede, langzame
deel. Dit begint met een
solo, die -net als de
begeleiding- ge nspireerd
is door het leidmotief
Decompositie eindigt met
een stralende finale.

It is dedicated to Jappie
Dijkstra and the Music

acknowledgement of their
outstanding work in
developing band
repertoire.The composer
writes: The idea for the
piece came when I was
reading an article about
a branch of Chinese
philosophy which is
abbreviated as Wu
Xing*, which has no
exact translation but can
mean, for example,
five elements, five
phases or five
states of change. It
is central to all
elements of Chinese
thought, including
science, philosophy,
medicine andastrology,
and in simple terms tries
to create various cyclic
relationships between
five elements in all
walks of life.An example
is: Earth - Metal - Water
- Wood - Fire - (Earth)
etc. where (in one cycle)
earth bears metal, metal
changes to liquid (water)
when heated, water helps
trees grow, wood burns to
create fire, fire
produces ash (earth) and
the cycle continues.I was
particularly interested
in the cycle of
emotions:- Meditation -
Sorrow - Fear - Anger -
Joy - (Meditation) etc.
and thought this cyclic
principle would provide
an effective emotional
journey for a piece of
music. So Five States
of Change has five
equal sections which
loosely characterise this
emotional cycle. I have
tried to make the music
grow organically, with
minimal repetition, and
each movement evolves
from the musical elements
at the end of the
previous one, with the
opening material
appearing, transformed,
at the end of the piece
to complete the cycle.

di comporre questo brano
è venuta a Philip
Sparke leggendo un

cicli di cinque elementi,
fasi e stadi di

interessavano in

tematicamente intrecciate

Die fünf Arten
von Chi, die zu
unterschiedlichen Zeiten
dominieren
L’idea
di comporre questo brano
è venuta a Philip
Sparke leggendo un
articolo sulla filosofi a
cinese che si basa su
cicli di cinque elementi,
fasi e stadi di
cambiamento. A Sparke
interessavano in
particolare il flusso dei
sentimenti come la
meditazione, il lutto, la
paura, la rabbia e la
gioia. A partire da
questi elementi ha
composto un
impressionante
“viaggioâ€
musicale suddiviso in
cinque sezioni,
tematicamente intrecciate
tra loro, quasi a voler
formare un cerchio.
