Par SPARKE PHILIP. Mercury Rising est une commande du « sinfonisches blasorchester wehdel » et de son chef d?orchestre, Thomas Ratzek, pour célébrer le cinquantenaire de l?ensemble, en 2018. Celui-ci a créé cette pièce le 2 novembre 2018 lors de son concert d?anniversaire au Bremerhaven Stadttheater, en Allemagne. Destinée à ouvrir un concert avec brio et virtuosité, cette composition débute avec une énergie fiévreuse et des rythmes syncopés puissants dans un embrasement de couleurs. Les cors et les saxophones introduisent alors une ample mélodie, reprise par les trompettes après un changement de tonalité. Un moment plus calme introduit une fanfare lointaine par les cors par-dessus les doubles croches effervescentes des clarinettes dans le registre grave. Ce passage est interrompu par une mélodie ténor pleine de passion, mais il revient bientôt avec l?ensemble des cuivres ; accompagné par des échos des figures d?ouverture des vents, il se prolonge pour mener la pièce à une conclusion triomphale. / Date parution : 2022-01-14/ Répertoire / Concert Band/Harmonie

Par BRIDGE FRANK. Frank Bridge was one of the finest English composers of the first half of the 20th century. The Pageant of London is his only work for wind band, comprising of two marches, one scored from Bridge’s best known organ piece and including the chimes ofBig Ben, plus three short renaissance pastiche items, one arranged from Playford (later used by Peter Warlock in Capriol Suite). The music is tuneful, approachable and, in the words of wind band ‘legend’ Timothy Reynish makes a fine alternative toHolst’s two suites, which were composed around the same time. Reynish has introduced this work to concert bands right across the world. It has been performed in USA and the Far East, recorded by the celebrated Kosei Wind Orchestra of Japan and alsoby the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in the Chandos edition of Bridge Orchestral Music./ Répertoire / Orchestre D'Harmonie
