Ce projet est né de la volonté de rassembler des élèves de tous niveaux et tous âges autour d'une création, de faire appel à l'oralité autant qu'à l'écrit selon les besoins de la musique et de l'instant, et de faire participer les musiciens à la mise en scène... C'était aussi l'occasion de plonger tous les participants dans les esthétiques et les pratiques des musiques dites 'actuelles'. Le thème des jeux vidéo intéresse les garçons et filles de tous âges, mais surtout, la diversité de cet univers éclectique ouvre la porte à toutes les esthétiques et influences musicales du monde, d'hier et d'aujourd'hui... Ainsi, chaque chanson évoque volontairement des pays et des oeuvres de référence. Elles seront donc l'occasion de s'intéresser de plus près à toutes les influences reconnues : les musiques traditionnelles d'Afrique, d'Orient, d'Amérique, d'Europe de l'est... les grands noms fondateurs du Jazz et des musiques actuelles tels que James Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, B.B. King, Miles Davis... Mais aussi à bon nombre de compositeurs du répertoire 'Classique' qui m'ont très largement inspiré comme Debussy, Messiaen, Rimski-Korsakov, Piazzolla, Milhaud... L'orchestration complète a été imaginée pour qu'un orchestre d'apparence classique (cordes, vents et piano) soit disposé face à un 'power trio' typiquement rock (guitare électrique, basse et batterie). Toutefois, pour permettre de s'adapter à toutes les contraintes (taille de la scène, acoustique, moyens techniques...), les chansons peuvent être accompagnées d'une formation instrumentale réduite, ou même en version piano/chant. Enfin, pour maîtriser plus facilement les difficultés liées à l'acoustique et aux niveaux sonores, la batterie peut être remplacée par des percussions (Cajon par exemple). Melom@.net est une oeuvre à vocation pédagogique. A chacun de choisir d'aborder la musique par la partition, ou oralement (mémorisations, reproductions vocales et instrumentales), de proposer des ateliers d'arrangements, d'improvisation, et pourquoi pas, d'écriture et composition, des collaborations entre départements... Comme dans la tradition du jazz et des musiques actuelles, ces chansons peuvent être jouées telles qu'elles sont écrites, ou au contraire, être 'reprises', revisitées, adaptées, arrangées...
