Ursula Mamlok's SIX RECITAL PIECES FOR YOUNG PIANISTS, composed in 1981, as well as FOUR RECITAL PIECES FOR YOUNG PIANISTS, composed shortly afterwards in 1982, belong, no doubt, to the most fruitful and successful years of the composer.At the request of her friend, violinist and amateur pianist Lilo Glick, Ursula Mamlok wrote these pieces, which Lilo premiered at the Bennington Summer Music Festival of 1982.The exact dates of composition of each individual piece can be found in the original version of the score, showing the dates of THE RELUCTANT RAINDROP and ON THIN lCE were 10.28.1981, PASSING STORM CLOUDS and A CLARION CALL 10.29.1981 framing them, SUNRISE IN THE EAST and SUNSET IN THE WEST were added a month later on 11.23.1981. UE's successful collaboration with pianist-teachers Anne-Lise Gastaldi and Valérie Haluk has given rise to a new project. Following Piano Project (UE 33662), which was released in 2006, an illustrious selection of contemporary composers has once again been invited to contribute short piano pieces for young musicians who have completed around four years of piano lessons. The new project aims to bring music together with painting or sculpture, and two Parisian institutions - Musée du Louvre and Cité de la musique - have come on board as partners. The ten participating composers chose one of the paintings and sculptures on display in the Louvre to be used as an inspiration for brief piano pieces of an educational nature, one or two minutes in length, that would give young musicians access to New Music. The book will feature both the new compositions and pictures of the works of art that inspired them. Three UE composers were involved in this project: Georg Friedrich Haas, Cristóbal Halffter - who already contributed a piece for Piano Project - and Wolfgang Rihm. / Piano

Composed between 1920 and 1921, this set of Histoires is a suite of four short movements by Jacques Ibert selected out of the ten initial ones, for Flute and Piano. This publication was commissioned by the Alphonse Leduc editors and increased Jacques Ibert's popularity. This four pieces are as followed :3. Le vieux mendiant (The old beggar)4. 'A Giddy girl?6. Le palais abandonné (The abandoned palace)7. Bajo la mesa (Under the table)The difficulty of these works will fit intermediate to upper intermediate players. Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Entertainment' (1930). Grieg's incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's drama 'Peer Gynt? contains some of his best-known compositions, such as 'Morning Mood? and 'In the hall of the Mountain King?. Grieg later extracted the most beautiful pieces to form two orchestral suites and arranged himself these versions for piano solo and piano four-hands. There was a surprise in store for us when we were preparing our Urtext edition. In the autograph and the first print run, the second suite contained another movement, the 'Dance of the Mountain King's Daughter?, which Grieg deleted shortly afterwards. This charming dance appears in the appendix to our edition - printed again for the first time in 120 years! The Norwegian pianist and Grieg expert Einar Steen-Nøkleberg was co-editor for our edition and also provided the new fingerings. / Piano 4 Mains

Béla Bartók's series of piano pieces For Children, based on folk melodies, was written around the end of the first decade of the 20th century. The pieces were published shortly afterwards by the Hungarian publisher Károly Rozsnyai. That first publication was in four volumes, the first two containing a total of 42 pieces based on Hungarian folk tunes, the third and fourth containing 43 pieces based on Slovakian folk tunes.In 1943, whilst in the United States, Bartók prepared a revised version of the collection for the publishers Boosey and Hawkes. The revisions were minimal: two Hungarian and four Slovakian songs were eliminated, there were a few minor alterations incorporating new ideas, some of the pieces previously written with accidentals had key signatures added, a few pieces were rewritten with changed meters - some fingerings were added or changed.The composer prepared the revised 1943 edition by using copies of the first edition on which he marked minor changes - where the changes were more extensive, fresh manuscript was written and a new version engraved. However, much of the engraving of the first edition was preserved in the 1943 edition. Publication took place in 1946, after the composer's death - it is not known if he saw final proofs prior to printing.The revised edition was published in two volumes, which now have been published together as one volume for the first time. / Piano

Par MOMPOU FEDERICO. Composed by Federico Mompou, Preludes Pour Piano is a set of four pieces with two hands for upper intermediate players. It covers the Preludes n° 1 to 4 written in 1928. Each of these preludes is written on one to four pages and can be played separately. The first one is short, to be played like a romance, with chords only. The second one lasts longer and features distinctive parts, starting with an energetic section followed by a sudden musical burst, the rest of it being slower until the animated close. The third prelude is quite slow and very expressive while the last piece of this book is quite short and simple. Federico Mompou was a Spanish pianist and composer. Early Piano Music. Par STRAUSS RICHARD. These previously unpublished piano pieces will appear in print for the first time in three volumes. Volume I contains fairly short individual pieces (1872-83) of widely varying difficulty. Volume II will contain four Sonatinas in several movements and a Fantasia (1874), which is about as demanding as the Sonatinas of Kuhlau and Clementi or early pieces by Mozart. Volume III contains two Sonatas (1877 and 1879) and a cycle of variations (1884) whose technical demands approach those of the Beethoven Sonatas. The tonal language of the young Richard Strauss was still firmly under the influence of nineteenth-Century traditions, with the figures of Schubert, Mendelssohn and Schumann dominating the musical landscape. The wealth of different forms and the varying levels of difficulty in Strauss’ early piano music make it well suited for teaching purposes; admirers and connoisseurs of Strauss’ music may also discover a few surprises here./ Recueil / Piano

88 Grieg arranged four pieces from his incidental music for Ibsenâ??s verse drama Peer Gynt to form an orchestral suite (Op. 46). This was followed in 1891 by a second orchestral suite (Op. 55) again comprising 4 pieces. Both suites quickly became established in the concert repertoire and contributed significantly to Griegâ??s international fame. He made piano arrangements of both suites and published them simultaneously with the orchestral suites in 1888 and 1893. Grieg subsequently made further adjustments in the piano pieces: shortening some, for example â??Morningâ??, and expanding others like â??The Death of Ã?seâ??. Overall, Grieg reduces the dramatic orchestral conception in favour of a more intimate expression and more restrained effects.
